  1. WOW! More viceral than Plus! Nice! For those who thought this was going to be some lame highschool drama, what do you think now?
  2. The Macross Plus DVD Box set (the release prior to the remastered version).
  3. That always puzzled me, since the gunship is essentially a separate ship attached to the NMC. It can detach and fire independently from the carrier ship (not yet seen animated). If the tracking fire we saw in Frontier is a common feature to all generations of NMC then Max (or rather the M7 director) WAS showing off and thus Max was putting the citizenry in unecessary danger during the transformation sequence. True, the Attacker mode would allow for greater firing arcs, however that would only truly be beneficial in a massive armada scenario like the one we saw in SDFM/DYRL. It could be argued that is why the NMC was designed to transform the way it was, however in limited engagements like in MF/M7, full transformation is not required for the NMC to fire it's cannon, that appears to be necessary for the Quarter.
  4. The closure part aint gonna happen. With the series doing well there is a very real risk that it may go the way of Gundam, a merch machine as opposed to a well thought out story franchise...
  5. Mini-Macross cannons... It also looks like a cleaned up version of the NMC-13. Same firepower, but with much less clutter...
  6. Additionally: 1. Fold travel 2. Pinpoint Barrier systems (this includes the omni-directional barrier of the NMC-13 and the barrier used on the frontier city ship) 3. Advanced AI 4. Reflex / Reaction weaponry (although initially it was a euphemism for Nuclear weapons, we are not entirely sure if they were conventional nukes or some enhanced form) 5. ECA or Energy Converting Armor 6. Hyper carbon steel (most likely other forms of advanced alloys) 7. Dimension Eater bomb (I suspect this was derived from the PD war) 8. Macross Cannons Granted, several of these examples apply to post SW1 OTEC, but they are still OTEC nonetheless.
  7. Wow! Them's as big as churchbells, they is! The thing that makes the Macross franchise timeless for many is the music itself. RT's music is bland and unimaginative, particularly the Minmay drek. It's the same 2 themes repeated over and over, while Macross has a couple of main themes, with songs tossed in for the sake of mood. Even Mac 7 with it's overplay of the music still underscored many events well with the show's music. Essentially RT is how a layman would use music for a show and Macross is what an accomplished director who understands how music affects a story's mood would use. I can understand a person's desire to relive their childhood love, but you will find few if any supporters of your proposal here...
  8. The only flaw in the theory about them being gen engineered by humans is where did all their "wonderful toys" come from? These are bio-engineered weaponry that isn't even incorporated into Galaxy's newest fighter. So many questions.... With ep 18 finished, there are still a lot of questions still open and it makes me wonder if the show will only go 25 eps? I am beginning to wonder if they may go to 36 like SDFM....
  9. Tetsuro Amino isn't directing this series, Kawamori is, so I suspect there is some sort of plausible reason behind it...
  10. Sigh, Microsoft lost, the format war is over, time to move on...
  11. You might have something there. I still believe the Vajra are remnant PC defenses left over from the Zentreadi uprisings (for lack of a better term) in the post PD war era. They may have been discovered by the 117th, studied and then ultimately exploited by the forces behind Galaxy. When the needed the "key" to control them became apparent, the Cosmo Nature project was initiated. The crystals somehow tie in, but exactly is unclear. Maybe they are a natural product of the V-Virus and Ranka is the only known survivor of the virus?
  12. Well they added what appears to be a pre-igniter to the cannon so that may be the housing for it. All in all it was nice to see some Battle Frontier lovin in this episode! They also qualified the differences in power between the Quarter's main gun and the Frontier's and one can assume it is why the Frontier wasn't used until now (why use a sledge hammer to kill a bug when a hammer will do?). The Quarter is more of an anti-capital ship gun (one on one) while the Frontier's is more of an anti-fleet gun (multiple cap ships). It definitely seems more powerful than the original Macross gun. However until we see it take on a cruiser, we can't be entirely sure...
  13. The tragedies of gunplay in the house...
  14. Instead of one "uber gun" how about several mission specific guns. In the 2059's they have role and mission specific weaponry loadouts on the new gen of fighters. A Valk can always grab a new gunpod during re-arming. Gundamites tend to pack on the weaponry for their MS which appears to be the norm in that universe....
  15. OK, it seems Western morality is judging an Asian show again. Keep in mind, I believe Ranka is very close to the minimum marriage age in Japan, so not so much loli anymore in the show's native land.
  16. Where's Ozma in all this? Somehow I'd expect him to loose his mind with nose art like that....
  17. They probably couldn't get a hold of Shinichi Iguchi to get any more information on the details. My guess is it's a derivative of the VF-2JA, the design elements are very similar.
  18. I agree, in the purest original Zentreadi sense....
  19. If it were Hasegawa, you'd get them, Bandai? Unknown....
  20. Possibly, however we don't know if they used the Macross as the design basis or the Megalord, since we didn't see the Global very closely. The Megalord used the same superstructure design and main gun, but then it began to diverge from the original. The idea of embedded software is a possibility since the Macross was of alien origin and dispite how much humanity rebuilt her, when she launched they still didn't fully understand many of her systems. The Booby Trap code and how to navigate a fold are the first examples we saw of humanity's ignorance of the ship. Is there other hidden code in the systems? Possibly.
