  1. That is certainly another possibility....
  2. Frontier's new concepts for the universe opens the door to the possibility of inclusion, but no story teller would allow themselves to be shackled to another man's vision of the universe they created. Allow it to co-exist as a story within the existing universe with harmonizing changes? Sure, that is a possibility. It's like writing a novel with an evolving story and then trying to make it shoehorn into another man's chapter later in the book. The writer has a choice, change the chapter to fit or discard it entirely from the book.
  3. The sticking point is the designation "SDF", which is an acronym of Super Dimension "Fortress". Which really doesn't suit the role of an apparently lightly armed colony ship. All subsequent ships are Macross class ships and I'd expect they be based on the SDF-2 Megalord plans which is still a Macross Class warship, albeit larger than the original. Now Sketchly pointed out that SDF has referred to warships, however in DYRL it is a colony ship with no apparent weaponry. Is it possible that the "actual" megaroad was a Macross Class SDF warship with areas segregated for colonists? The Macross could hold nearly 60,000 civilians and a ship 420m longer (as the SDF-2 was) could hold more. Is the Megaroad 01 of DYRL fame only a movie fabrication and NOT the actual ship? Which bears the question, why did it appear in the prologue of episode 1? Granted the character designs from DYRL were also used with respect to the picture of Misa, Hikaru and Vritai. Were there actually Megaroad colony ships that looked like the one shown in DYRL / Frontier that were accompanied by SDF warships of the Macross class? I can see Sketchly's puzzlement! It is also why I won't dismiss the idea that the SDF designation refers to a warship and not a colony ship.
  4. There are a few holes in your theory. In Mac II the total area of the population centers are coastal with cities based from landed Zentreadi cap ships, whereas in the Nue continuity, Macross city is a megalopolis with few known cities nearby. They use VF-2's, whereas in the Nue continuity the successor to the VF-1 was the VF-4. A common misconception among Western fans is that the image projected during the Minmay Defence was actually Minmay. It wasn't. It was a current pop starlet singing to evoke a culture shock on the Zentreadi agressors. The macross cannon "augmentation" on the SDF warship in Mac II is nothing like the evolutionary direction of these weapons that we've seen in the Nue continuity. If you were to adapt this series to fit the Nue continuity, it could be done with several of the revelations we've already been given. 1. The world is not earth, but a colony world that inadvertantly folded into a briar patch of fold faults (this takes care of how they'd be cut off from the Galaxy Network). 2. The era would probably be best suited to the 2060 or even 2061 years, with the actual departure date prior to the 2020s. 2. The colony convoy was accompanied by an SDF warship, Macross class (not the SDF-1). 3. Without access to the Galaxy Network they had to rely on themselves for weapons upgrades and combined the design elements of the VF-1 and the VF-4 into a new fighter design as well as updates to existing destroid designs and capital ship designs to compliment the existing Zentreadi fleet. 4. The Marduk could be the SA or at least a faction of the SA of the post PD era, since they understand the power of song and mind control. This would explain microns and giants in the same task force. Over the eons they developed their own little empire in that part of the galaxy. Equipped with original PC technology, fold faults would not affect them as they did humanity. 5. The Alus remains a mis-understood legend. 6. Several other story elements would need to be explained to best harmonize with the Nue continuity. 7. The final discovery of their system by an NMC survey group equipped with fold quartz modified engines.
  5. Mac II cannot be placed into the Nue continuity without some primary changes to it's chronolgy & story. Mac II: - Could not take place on Earth. - Could not realistically take place 80 years after SW1 - Would need an explanation as to why this world has no contact with the Galaxy Network (hence the need to develop their own mecha and capital ships). - Could not have the original SDF-1 as it's Macross battleship Unless these changes are implemented, the show is not compatible with the Nue universe.
  6. True enough. Most Zentreadi weaponry uses the sensor array even the canopy of the VF-14s, so it is possible.
  7. Incorrect, next contestant please pick a category... It was a design taken from the Sentinels line art for that defunct series. The idea was to make the SDF-3 look like a Zentreadi ship to fool the other guys... Well actually they've distanced themselves from BigWest owned designs, even to the point of disguising the Spacy kite into their "REF" insignias. What has puzzled me was why the SDF designation would be attached to Megaroad colony ships when it was initially an acronym for "Super Dimension Fortress". The Global is obviously an SDF design, yet that registry designation has gone to the Megaroads. Either the Megaroads were accompanied by SDF battleships like the NMC city ships or the Megaroads were equipped with macross cannons or heavy armaments to make them essentially a populated fortress. Outside of the universe I can understand moving away from SDF designations for warships since HG hijacked the term for their "Super Dimensional Fortresses" and BW would not want any confusion between the two. Hence the re-classification as "Macross" class vessels. I am hopeful some explanation will come from the Chronicle as to what the SDF designation for the Megaroads has actually come to mean, if indeed the colony ship is what's being described.
  8. Well Togo we can call it the SDF-04 Global or the Macross 04-Global, however the fact remains it was an SDF type of battleship and the colonization animation in episode one continued to show SDFs coupled with Megaroads in the colonization fleets. "SDF" is likely its registry designation and "Macross" is its class designation, both appear to be correct, by what we've seen. It would explain why the Battle Frontier is a "New Macross Class" with a registry designation of NMC as opposed to just a "Macross Class Carrier". Feel free to white knuckle your beliefs....
  9. The chassis was, however the battleship plans still existed. Why would Spacy "clone" the Macross when they had plans for a cruiser that was specifically designed for the battleship role. The Macross had dozens of unused areas and enough room to house a city of 50,000. Whereas the SDF-2 plans likely utilized every square inch of the ship. It is possible that SDF-2 Battleship may have had a fighter assembly plant built into it and various raw material processing and fabrication plants as well. It was a ship that was to be over 1.5km long afterall. During SW-1 the Macross would have shown many of it's design flaws that no one could have anticipated outside of a combat experience. Thus those weaknesses would have been corrected and any additional facilities and armaments would have been added in subsequent designs.
  10. It is entirely possible the SDF-4 Global was built using the SDF-2 plans and all subsequent SDF class ships as well. The SDF-1 was a rebuilt SA gunship, whereas the SDF-2 battleship took the design elements that went into the Macross and modified them. Over time, as we've seen with the NMC's, even those design elements would have been changed to adapt to the new technologies of the day until the NMC's took over.
  11. I am not sure the Macross 5 fleet had multiple NMC's. It had multiple City ships, but they could just as well been attached to Uraga class carriers, with the command ship being the NMC 5.
  12. Why even bother? Mac 7 had two movies, one was a side story taking place during the series while the other one was "further adventures of Basara the singing rainbow maker..."... Depending on how the story ends anything is possible...
  13. I'm sure there are other differences between the Battle Frontier and the Battle Galaxy, by the picture of the Galaxy's bridge they are both NMC's as you can see the shoulders of the Galaxy just right of the head and it is definitely an NMC shoulder... I also found it interesting that the Galaxy went with a window stripe for the bridge area as opposed to the traditional bubble (granted it's an artist's conception of the bridge to mimic the look of the VF-27, but practically it is a safer design).
  14. I'd speculate it's Kawamori demonstrating a more plausible use for the transformation as opposed to Mac 7's "Oh look a ship, let's transform!"
  15. Well I agree with Kronnang (yes, I was just as shocked too... ). With the liner notes in the first OST, the spectre that SDFM may be relegated to a TV series with in the universe has been revealed to the masses. Whether that becomes official, we don't know (from a business point of view it is the only Macross that is not solely owned by BigWest thus could never be marketed internationally without Tatsunoko's involvement). The reaction of the Vajra to Ai Oboetimasu Ka (a song with apparent PC origins according to DYRL) is very clear, they were motivated to fight more with that song than Aimo. This series, as did Zero, has retconned some parts of the universe as well as revealed new items. Similarly to how Mac 7 did back in '94. Does Kawamori / BigWest have the right to change their minds about what exactly constitutes the story of SW1? Yes. Have they? Maybe... Interesting facts from Frontier that support the notion that DYRL may in someway have historical relevance to SW-1. - The DYRL type of body armor worn by the Zentreadi - Ai Oboetimasu Ka being aggressivley reacted to by the Vajra - The bumpy headed Mr.Bilar similar to the character designs of DYRL (first seen in Mac 7) Are a few examples of the "changes" we've seen. Keep in mind that a month ago many were adamant that no SDF's were built after the Macross and that proved to be incorrect. Now these are in no way proof that SDFM is no longer historical canon, however it does raise the question if it will continue to be in the future.
  16. That bridge could be either the Dulfim or the Galaxy, but I am leaning toward the Battle Galaxy as she hasn't been seen since what? Episode 7? There is also a strong implication that Mao is aboard the Galaxy, so I think the Galaxy will play a part in the finale. It is possible that Sheryl and Ranka will both be needed to marshal the forces of Frontier and the Vajra against the Galaxy fleet, just like in the openning credits at the beginning of the series and the concert scene where they met on the psychic plane. So many possibilities! I love it!!!

    VF-1 Updated

Maybe it's me, but it reminds me of the SW-XA1 Schneeblume Kawamori did back in 1995, with a Macross II style SAP FAST Pack excluding the railgun...
  18. How about a different genre? A horror or mystery set in the Macross universe? That's what I want to see! The universe is so vast and expansive and all we ever get to see is a new alien, new Kano music and cool new Valks. I love the eye candy as much as the next fan and the music in this series is amazing, but to pigeonhole a franchise is setting up for death IMHO. "Change or Die!"... "Variety is the spice of life" Bigwest seems to have little trouble finding sponsors for OVAs and movies, but they always turn to the "Bandai" machine for TV series. Which is fine, however there are plenty of stories in this universe that can be told outside of the "epic space war musical" genre too... They don't have to only do TV series. As an example, if one compares Gundam 00 to MS Gundam, it is clear the franchise has lost its way from the roots that made it legendary. Doing a new TV series every 2-3 years for the past 30 years has stagnated it.
  19. Actually the Gunship could fire on its own. It is essentially a ship attached to the carrier. If I recall correctly it (at least the Mac 7 gunship) was not as powerful as the Macross gun (which is reasonable considering the original Macross cannon was a restoration of a PC gun. I'd expect all the subsequent SDF battleships' cannons were not as powerful as the original's either and over time came closer). The main purpose of the transformation, for me, is that it allows the Battle Carrier to fire the cannon in a 3 dimensional arc since the weapon is primarily an anti-fleet weapon and space battles take place on a 3D plane (Aside from the original notion that it was "cool" to see). Now when you take the armaments on the Macross 13 or Battle Frontier and couple that with a detachable Macross cannon, you have quite a lot of tactical options to work with in a fight. However due to it's size the NMC's are still a very big target for enemy fire. Thus a need for a smaller "macross" type ship like the Quarter would eventually be required for single ship to ship combat. In previous eras they only had carriers and battleships with limited firepower in the 400m size without any one shot kill cannons. The Quarter also offers greater maneuverability over the Battle Carrier, something not available before.
  20. The only Macross title I never really cared for (mainly because it was too long and far too implausible) was Mac 7. The music was good (if you got the chance to listen to it "after" after the fact). The plot basis and premise of 7 is interesting, it's execution really failed to capture my appreciation. It had two separate stories which worked independently, however would have been best produced separately. As for the Frontier finale, I am expecting it center around the PC as all the Macross shows invariably do. It is entirely possible that Grace's ultimate goal is to wipe out the Vajra to gain access to a PC archive on their homeworld. The Frontier was the bait and sacrificial lamb for the operation. The only puzzle yet to be fleshed out is how Galaxy fits into it all and who's side are they on?
