Seeing a VF-1D on eBay for between $500 - $600 is not uncommon. Finding one for cheaper is less common and takes some hunting, but happens from time to time. However, just because someone is selling at those prices doesn't mean anyone is buying at those prices.

WOW! With all the Macross toys released by Yamato, Arcadia, Bandai, etc... I have no idea how someone can possibly keep up with Macross toys, yet alone collect from other franchises like Gundam, Star Wars, Star Trek, and so on. The collections some of you guys amass truly amazes me.

Max and Miria stands are bundled with the valkyrie. There were 2 releases of the Roy toy, one with the stand and one without. It is possible to purchase this stand separately. I see a listing for it on eBay, but that is kind of pricey. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SOUL-NATION-2015-MEMORIAL-STAGE-Macross-HI-METAL-R-Stand-for-VF-1S-Valkyrie-Roy/263643389873 The HMR VF-1S 35th anniversary valkyrie also has its own stand. There are also generic Tamashii stands that are available, if you do not care about getting the customized ones.

The stands vary in regards to appearance. The VF-1J Super valkyrie for Max is blue, while Miria's is red. Both have a drawing of their respective pilots' faces The stand for Roy's VF-1S Strike valkyrie is black and uses the skull logo.

My guess is that whatever department at Bandai that makes the valkyrie has an allocated production budget. Given that they have many different projects, each contending for resources, the YF-19 gets a certain amount of production funding. From that, they are able to manufacture X amount of supply. If they know that they are able to sell all X quantity, and they know their profit margin, I guess they are satisfied. They could manufacture more, but maybe they believe doing so might incur risk of possible over-supply, impacting their total profits. And we know how risk adverse some Japanese companies can be. Also, since Bandai has so many different things they are working on, they probably don't feel the need to go all-in on a single toy line. Rather, they diversify their sales portfolio across many lines and models.
