I would certainly hope that super and strike parts come together.... but, a part of me worries that they might first release a super parts set... and then at a later point in time, come out with a super + strike parts set... and of course, we'll all buy the super parts set because at the time we don't know that a super + strike parts set will eventually come out.

A couple of months ago, Goodwill did a charity auction thru eBay, which included some Macross toys.

So... in my head, I am thinking the VF-1J will end up costing around $200 - $250. Then comes Super Parts for $100 - $150. And then Strike Parts for another $100 - $150. And then Armored Parts for $200 - $250. Maybe you get lucky and get a combined Super/Strike Parts.... maybe. I just fear that a single VF-1J plus accessories ends up running as much as $800.

Honestly, I wish this Bandai DX Chogokin VF-1J would be released in 1/55 scale, as a successor to the old Takatoku/Bandai chunky-monkeys. At that scale, it would still sit fairly well next to the Yamato/Arcadia 1/60 scale line, as well as the existing Bandai DX Chogokin releases for Macross Frontier, Delta, and the upcoming Plus. Displaying a 1/55 VF-1J on the same Yeti stand or runway set would not look all that out of place with those other toys... whereas I feel at 1/48 scale the VF-1 would be just a bit too large. Granted, you could then display it with the Yamato 1/48 scale toys, but that is a far more limited selection to choose from.

Can you imagine how big a 1/48 scale Monster would be?

I am really really torn in regards to getting this. I am already collecting the Yamato Arcadia 1/60, Bandai HMR, and Toynami 1/100 scale toys... and I have the Bandai DX 1/60 scale YF-19 on pre-order. Starting in on a Bandai DX 1/48 too... when: 1.) I am out of shelf space 2.) I am feeling poor from having spent so much on Macross toys since March, and 3.) now that I am engaged, I should start being more "responsible". Must resist temptation. Oh boy, I imagine pre-order madness being crazy for this one.
-
Also looks like it has a gun strap, and a seam line near the tip of the nose cone, similar to the HMR version.

oh no.... OH NO! i'm doomed

My Fast Packs attach to the legs quite firmly. As such, I found that there was not any good way of getting the Fast Pack pegs to go into the wing slots without doing the slight leg pull-out, unless I was willing to risk potentially putting stress on the Fast Pack hinge. My method was the safest and easiest way I could get it to work. And I found it actually works quite well.

I don't know about you ArchieNov, but in my case, I did have to. In the picture above, the right side of the image shows the leg fully pushed in. The left side of the image shows the leg pulled out 1 tick. In order for me to get the Fast Packs to line up with the wing slots, I had to do the aforementioned leg pull out. It is slight, but was necessary for me... using a sample size of 2 VF-17S toys that I own.

What toy did that ordinance come from?

Believe me... I am pretty happy about it! I liked getting the Yamato 1/60 VF-19 Kai from YJA for 13,000 yen.... but Buyee's proxy and shipping fees really turned a $120 purchase more into a $170 one. So, the fact that I get Amazon Prime's free 2 day shipping of a new product (rather than a used toy as was the case with my VF-19 Kai), I am happy as a kitty cat resting on a student's textbook and homework assignment... *sigh*

Okay, I figured out how to slot the Fast Packs into the wing slots. Unlike normal fighter mode where the legs are fully tucked in, with the Fast Packs on you have to slightly pull the legs back away from the cockpit, which makes the fighter slightly longer from nose to tail. This allows the pegs on the Fast Packs to line up with the slots on the wings. Thanks for the help guys!

Just ordered this from Amazon. Thank you PRIME DAY! I really should not be spending money on more valkyries..... but.... PRIME DAY! Free shipping! Fulfilled by Amazon Listed as being in New condition And these are priced at about 25,000 yen from Mandarake, AmiAmi, and such... P.S. At the time I placed my order, it said there was 1 more left. I was ALMOST tempted to just order both. But that would just be too excessive. Maybe someone here on MWF will pick it up. P.P.S. Hmmm..... maybe this is not actually a PRIME DAY sale, and just a normal price markdown? Not sure.... the VF-19F has been on my Amazon watch list for quite a whiles, and I just ordered it when I saw the price drop today. Well, regardless... I am not going to complain. I am just anxious to receive my shipment on Thursday.

That sounds.... wonderful! I want to stick some reaction warheads on mine and turn it into a stealth bomber

In the picture above, the 2 wing slots are denoted with red circles. In the picture above, the slot in the wing is denoted by a red circle. Note that the slot is more forward than the Fast Pack peg. As such, as far as I can tell, the Fast Pack is not able to line up the peg into the wing slot.
-
I don't think so. The fast pack parts don't line up with those slots in the wings.
-
I noticed that the Yamato 1/60 VF-17 has a slot on the underside of each wing, Are these intended to be used as hard points for ordinance? Thanks

For some reason, I now wish I had figures of Macross Frontier's Alto and Michael doing Yuri on Ice cosplay, complete with figure skating poses.

Well, I imagine it is not much different from the Armored VF-25 in fighter mode from Macross Frontier. LOL
