If this were a 1/60 or 1/55 scale release, I would absolutely go and pre-order this. At 1/48 scale though.... I just don't think I am ready to dive into yet another form factor. The DX Chogokin VF-1 does look nice though. To me, it looks a lot like an HMR with integrated landing gear, Yamato-style hard points on the wings, and Toynami-style display stand. Generally, not bad things... .well, except for the Toynami display stand. Those are the absolute worst.

Wow, that valkyrie is so big in his hands, I am sort of afraid the toy would be too monstrously large and heavy in my hands.

"VF-1J VALKYRIE FIRST EDITION" So..... what are the odds this will get obsoleted by a RENEWAL version in a few years? And wow, did they use a 1/60 or 1/72 scale pilot for a 1/48 scale bird? Hikaru is tiny compared to the cockpit.

Based on the video, it looks like each individual wing is not just 1 piece. Rather, it almost looks like it is made of 2 pieces: the primary wing and a separate wing flap behind it.

That is the old Takatoku / Bandai "chunky monkey" 1/55 scale line of VF-1 toys, originally circa 1984 or 1985 or so, though re-released a few times since then by Bandai. You can learn more about them from @jenius' anymoon.com review site: http://anymoon.com/blog/?p=6244

As an East-coaster, I will probably join you in being caffeinated that night to watch pre-order madness for my own sick amusement. I am already on vacation anyways (kind of) until the Fall semester starts, so I will cheer you guys on!

What... the... f----?!

Depending on when in 2005, I was either 12 or 13. Ahhh, Star Wars! I saw those movies as a kid. I should have remembered. I just don't recall Skywalker having such long hair. Correction. I remember him having that long hair in the most recent movie, but he was much older and his hair was gray. It was very sad. He was a hobo on an island.

I would argue that the Toynami 1/100 toys got better in quality around Wave 6. They fixed the alignment of where the arm pegs go into the leg slots in fighter mode, circa their VF-1D release onwards. As such, the toy in fighter mode holds together much better and is not, to quote @jenius, the "floppy mess" that the older Toynami VF-1 toys used to be.

Also HobbySearch.

Technically, I would say the Toynami 1/100 line is more comprehensive than the HMR line (regarding VF-1 toys) Between both the US and Japanese Toynami releases having done TV VF-1J Supers for Hikaru, Max and Miria, TV VF-1A Max and Kakizaki, DYRL versions of various fighters, cannon fodder, VF-1D, a stealth version, at least 4 types of GBP (red, yellow, blue, and stealth), separate super/strike parts, etc.... I think the only things that Toynami has not released that HMR has are the VT-1 and VE-1.... I think. That being said, the HMR is definitely a higher quality (though more expensive) product, so I do hope that HMR does become as comprehensive as Toynami for 1/100 VF-1 releases.

I more meant that opening the sealed shrink wrap would be a very painful, one and done sort of thing.... much like losing one's virginity or what I imagine circumcision must be like.... (Sorry, circumcision was the closest thing I could think of for guys that was remotely close to losing one's virginity) Anyways. I will probably open the box sometime soon.... eventually. And when I finally do unseal it... it will hurt. I might even cry. =) Sorry, I'll shut up now and play with my toys in the corner over there.

The one thing that worries me just a little bit is Bandai's commitment to a VF-1 product line. Origin of Valkyrie died prematurely. And the Hi-Metal line never got around to doing things like the VT-1, VE-1, VF-1J, and VF-1A TV Max before being phased out... though I admit that the successor Hi-Metal R line is looking promising so far, though the verdict is still technically out on this regards (we are still lacking VF-1A TV Max, TV Kakizaki, DYRL Max and Kakizaki, VF-1D, etc). And, admittedly, Bandai has been more consistent as of late, regarding its releases for DX Chogokin Macross Frontier and Delta lines. So hopefully this DX Chogokin VF-1 series of toys gets a comprehensive release slate.

So... my Yamato 1/60 VF-19F arrived from Amazon and I just realized something... This is the first time I have actually gotten a Macross toy that was new and sealed in that clear plastic wrapping. Up to now, everything I have gotten has been in great condition, but technically used and hence not sealed.... as my acquisitions up to now have either been from Jungle, AmiAmi, Mandarake, eBay, Yahoo Japan auctions, or MWF trades. So now, with regards to the 19F... there is a part of me that is struggling to unseal the toy. It's like, do I want to pop this valkyrie's cherry? Do I want to have it circumcised? This hesitations... it is such a weird feeling. OMG... I've become *THAT* kind of collector now, haven't I?

At first I had thought this might have been the Tamashii Nation's VF-1J announced back in 2015... but it does seem quite a bit different in design.

*sigh* Part of me wants to take photos of my valkyries around campus., in front of the Charles River, in front of the Boston skyline... But then I think about sunlight touching my birds, and I get scared. *sigh*

Requesting a wallet animated GIF where the Quarter does a Macross attack on the Galaxy's wallet, and little destroids rise up from the Quarter's arm to fire bills into the Galaxy's wallet's interior, blowing up said wallet before the Frontier punches the Galaxy out. =)

Actually, I am not seeing any problem with the VF-17 holding together well in fighter mode with the legs extended out a single tick to accommodate the Fast Packs. In some respects, it is not that different from the Arcadia 1/60 VF-1 toy needing to have the legs bent a bit to accommodate the super/strike parts in fighter mode, or how the YF-19 slightly needs the legs extended to attaching its Fast Packs.
