Weird, they just raised the price to $177... ?
-
Thank you for the links. $98.89 shipped from NY with the cheapest shipping method. Between these super parts, the VF-1S and Dairugger my wife is gonna be SO PISSED when she checks the charges later this week. And it's only 6 days into the month...
-
So I'm new to TWE items and never had the pleasure of placing an order before. I wanna get the super parts on 6/7. Sorry if this question has been beaten to death but where's the best place to order from (price and reputation)?
-
I clicked on the link that @gulan posted here. The PreOrder button was active so I immediately clicked on it to add to cart. Clicked checkout and got that sold out message. This was all within less than 5 seconds. Grrr!

Sold out within a few seconds of this posting... lol

Can you post a screenshot of your order page where it shows unpaid?
-
I managed to get one at AE again, along w/ Max: Didn't get anywhere at AmiAmi or HLJ no matter how hard I tried (I think my F5 key is broekn) so thank goodness I didn't waste my time there. Also managed to get GX-88 from NY: Congrats to those who walked away with something and my condolences for those that came out empty handed. I feel for you 'cause I've been there myself lots-o-times...

I got the same thing. I paid but shows not paid. But the order does show up in my queue. Let's pray for the best in the morning.

Yamato 1/48 VF-1J Hikaru -> VF-1 TV Kakizaki conversion
dafob replied to dafob's topic in The Workshop!
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll probably paint both heads brown and make 'em interchangeable. -
I've been searching high and low for a 1/48 TV Kakizaki (the limited Macross Chronicles version) but they are hard to come by these days -- and when you do find one it cost a kidney. There are many other 1/48's that haven't fared well over the last decade so I decided to pick one of these junkers up and make my own TV Kakizaki. I have minimal to no experience with models (built some in my childhood decades ago) and painting so please don't judge my work too harshly. I started with a junker VF-1J Hikaru that I picked up from @levzloi. It has yellowed and has a broken tail/backpack: My goal was to strip the red stripes, whiten the plastic with peroxide treatment and paint the needed areas tan/brown for the conversion. Sounds simple enought, right...? First step was to take it apart: I used 90% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to try and remove the red paint and though stubborn, it eventually came off. But either the alcohol or rubbing motion (or both) left the finish of the plastic shiny and polished and it no longer matched the rest of the valk. At this point, I made the decision to just paint the entire thing with white paint. I know coating the entire valk in paint will invite paint scratches with transformations and posing but this thing will only be a display piece. Re-assembled part of the valk to see what it would look like and if the project was worth continuing: So far, so good. So onward and upward with more white paint. I chose a darker brown than the light tan color found on the 1/60 TV Kakizaki. The pieces all painted white and re-assembled: Valk put back together: Side-by-side comparison with a 1/48 TV Max: In my world, Kakizaki not only survived but he eventually gets promoted to team leader and given a 1J. Any thoughts or suggestions? Any feedback would be very welcomed.

I edited my post afterwards and added the link. I guess that would've helped. But just in case, the link is here. As for the G1 TF, I'm also not a big fan of stuff post movie (hence the lack of headmasters, targetmasters, etc.). This picture was taken about a year ago and my display has since changed a bit (mainly replacement figures such as BC Steamroll/Recon, official Sunstreaker, etc.). I'm pretty much done w/ TF and have moved on to Macross -- though my wallet is no longer on speaking terms with me since 90% were secondary market prices. But I'm practically done w/ that too as I own almost every cannon valk in 1/48 and 1/60 scale up to MacPlus. Only the elusive 1/60 Angel Birds left. I also would like to post pics of my Macross display but am a bit embarrassed after seeing y'all's collections. Most of my stuff is still in boxes due to lack of space.

Excellent tips @rdrunner. Just to chime in on the strip lightning: there are some that are super easy to install without any soldering and are very cheap. You can get a 16 foot roll for about $12. These rolls have adhesive tape that you just peel and stick on. All you need is scissors to cut the rolls to suit your length and a standard AC adapter for power supply. The rolls even come with a few connectors for pieces that you cut. No wiring or solder needed. You can get them here. For my cabinets, I've placed them in the "11" configuration as @rdrunner mentioned on each side, going up and across the top then back down the other side: Here's what it would look like for a detolf: ...and here's what it would look like for multiple cabinets, daisy-chained. I think the lighting here cost me less than $45: I thought I was the only one that had these problems, particularly sneaking stuff into the house! I usually sneak my stuff in while the wife is showering...

I have a question for owners of the Yamato 1/48 VF-1A Kakizaki DYRL. I recently picked up a copy (FINALLY!) but I'm noticing that it's slightly more yellow/darker than some of my other 1/48's. Another member told me his Kakizaki was also darker than his other 1/48's. I own a couple yellowed valks and toys so I'm very familiar with how they look when ravaged by heat and the sun. But usually the yellowing is uneven, with some parts really yellow and other parts still white/light. This Kakizaki's color is uniform throughout the entire figure, every nook and cranny. The only difference in color is with the chicken hands, which are slightly whiter than the rest of the valk. My question: is Kakizaki DYRL darker than other 1/48's or is my copy yellowed? In this picture, the left one w/ super parts is a custom, repainted Hikaru that was really yellowed and whitened with peroxide treatment that has started to yellow again.

I have both versions Yamato's 1/60 V2 VF-1D. The older one w/ the rainbow canopy has a flip-top box while the newer one w/ the 30th anniversary markings does not have a flip-top box. I also have the 30th Anniversary release of the VF-1S DYRL Roy (standard release w/o super/strike parts) and that also comes in a regular box without flip-top.
-
Those are great prices, especially if shipping is included because those boxes are huge and cost a lot to ship.

Woohoo! AJ just shipped my 1D. Estimated arrival is Wed 4/24. Most likely will get here sooner than that. 1

That would be very helpful. BTW, if 2.2 is clear canopy w/ fixed crotched, what does 2.1 mean? I thought maybe fixed shoulders but I see the VT-1 as 2.1 which eliminates that theory.
-
Darn it. That means my TV valks will never match. I never knew what 2.2 meant in your chart but now I know "...and knowing is half the battle!". Thank you both for the info!
-
Another question for you old timers: Did Yamato ever release a 1/60 VF-1S TV Roy (bright white plastic with yellow/black stripes) with a rainbow canopy? All of the TV bright white VF-1S I've seen all have clear canopies.

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

I'm green with envy too! The last 1/48 DYRL I'm missing. Tired of waiting for one to pop up so picked up a cheap sunburnt red Hikaru, whitened with peroxide and repainted it (forgot to paint the red arrows on the head): Would still love to pick up a legit one if anyone here wants to let theirs go (hint hint) ... -
Why'd you guys have to go and mess with me like that? Especially since I've been itching to find a 1/60 Angel Bird these last few days. Like @Slave IV said, I knew it was a joke but but found myself clicking on it anyways...
