SDF-1 3D Model + 3D Print [SD Machine Style]
Sanity is Optional replied to UN_MARINE's topic in The Workshop!
Look good so far. Can't wait to print it out, downscaled a bit. Also found out that apparently Macs have built-in STL previews in the finder (explorer) windows. One question, I guess: what's the largest part? As a baseline for setting the scale to fit my resin print volume -

Thanks for splitting them up, that'll do the trick. Now I just need to wait until I can buy isopropyl again for cleaning prints. -

In this case, it's probably outgassing from the plastic (including the clamshell) in a sealed space, plus the temperature spikes that did it. -
The Arcadia PF SDF-1 is quite the piece to restart a collection with.

Just wondering, any chance you could export the files as parasolid (x_b, x_t), STEP (stp, step), or IGES (iges)? I wanted to chop the files up into individual parts for my resin printer, but my CAD package is an engineering one and doesn't like working on STL files. -

It was something about putting plastic shims along the inside of the tornado parts where they contact the underside of the wings, right? -
Just painting them with some Liquid Chrome would do the trick.

Ok, good to hear. Wether or not I buy one is pretty much dictated by if there's any updates, as I already have a Roy 1S.- 2127 replies

Looks like the 1J is available for pre-order now. Also looks like the additional thigh joints are now gone, going by the promo images.- 2127 replies

I'm just missing one from Macross, the Hikaru VF-1S. Got all the rest, plus a few doubles. Mainly I just bought everything else as it came out starting with Max+Milia, and only bought things before that I really wanted (Monster, Glaug, Regult, Armored 1J, and Fokker 1S) plus a Hikaru 1J and CF 1A for putting Fext armor on. Ended up that the 1S was the only one I didn't get at release which I don't want enough to pay the aftermarket prices.

Man, it's a shame. Got mine in just before this, and it's a great showpiece (even if it's more of a model kit than a figure by weight/durability).- 2156 replies

Looks like $30-$40 based on prices at Mandarake and Yahoo Japan.
-
I'd start by pushing the pin out. Once the broken piece is separated it ought to be possible to glue back together more securely without having to worry about freezing the joint.

Calibre Wings has their own site, there's also Flying Mule. Neither has these listed yet.

Whats Lying on your Workbench MK IV
Sanity is Optional replied to Urashiman's topic in The Workshop!
Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it. One thing I'll suggest is any small decals that go over non-flat locations (on the VF-27 it was the diamonds on the intakes/thighs) are better done via paint than decals. Those particular decals practically disintegrated with how much micro-sol/micro-set it took to get them to conform, and one of them was actually replaced with a sticker due to the damage. -

Sure, I did a full build-log for the VF-27 (topcoat+decals+panel lining). WIP 1 WIP 2 WIP 3 WIP 4 So many decals WIP 5 Finished -

I've built a few Bandai 1/72 variable kits with just lining (VF-21, SV-262, RVF-25), and one with full lining+decals+flat coat (VF-27). -
The aftermarket prices for that one are nuts, but it's not a limited edition so it will restock eventually if you wait.
-
Right about now I'm super glad I got 4 superpacks from the first batch through a proxy.

The VF-25 and VF-31 (and the VF-27 and SV-262) have the advantage of being based on CG models, unlike the hand-drawn images of the VF-1, VF/YF-19, and YF-21/VF-22.
