  1. Eh, it works out closer to $120, when I consider that the pre-order from Amazon Japan is ¥33,011 shipped, whereas ordering the PF from Arcadia thru a proxy (or via Tenso) is ¥38,280 before proxy fees or domestic/international shipping. I'd go with a chronological display of Fighter mode, and the only YF models I'd include would be the ones that varied significantly from the production version (so just the YF-19).
  2. The PF looks good and all, even looks like they did a nice job on the panel lining. That said, I'm not in love with the VF-4 enough to shell an additional $120 (incl shipping), plus proxy fees, to go for the PF this time around.
  3. Yuuuuup. Buy NY, they charge the same as everyone else, more for shipping, and good luck getting your stuff shipped out.
  4. Not this time, looks like. ¥29,260 at Nippon Yasan That's a hard pass from me, purchasing from NY that is.
  5. The first SSP order window was like an hour long, to be fair. But they 100% over-sell, yeah.
  6. I figure I need one for my 1/60 VF-0 to VF-31 lineup. Still need a 4, a 9 (the VF-9 kit is still in the mail system), and a 17.
  7. Yup, "Pre-order price guarantee", they will charge the lowest applicable price between when you ordered and when the item is released.
  8. Order Summary Items:¥29,800 Shipping & handling:¥3,211 Order total:¥33,011 Not too terrible, given that it includes DHL shipping. Still hoping the price comes down a bit on Amazon though. Would like to see what the PF will end up looking like as well, and the price premium.
  9. Huh, they upped the price. My Armored 1J through Amazon Japan is thus: Order Summary Item(s) Subtotal: ¥ 21,359 Shipping & Handling: ¥ 1,600 Total:¥ 22,959 Yeah, easy buy for that incl. 3day shipping to the US.
  10. I need to put together a spreadsheet, and buy insurance for my collection (and my firearms, as they're explicitly not covered under homeowner's policy).
  11. 10 or 15 years ago, my wallet was a lot more anemic. I suspect that's true for many of us here.
  12. Well, you got me to go out and count up some numbers. Looks like $12k or so on display, just in Macross stuff. Plus about 2-3x as much in storage. Oof, that's worse than I expected.
  13. Ebay prices, I suspect, are in some cases either intended to take advantage of those who don't know prices, or to try and set prices.
  14. Could also glue in some plaplate into the slot along the saucer, and then re-cut it to actually match the neck?
  15. Well, at least they're being smart about it this time. Also it doesn't exactly match up (the elevator deck, for instance, has different lines).
  16. T-Rex did the design, not Bandai. T-Rex does a lot of valkyrie designs, as well as the Yamato/Arcadia SDF-1. Also seems pretty clear to me that the design was optimized for battroid mode above all else. Look, proportions, articulation.
  17. I think, on the whole, I'd rather have the $12. And spend it on something else, like a few bags of chips or a matinee movie showing.
  18. There's quite a bit of production in South Korea and Taiwan (which isn't exactly mainland China), so at least even if Intel offshores the production it won't all be in one single country.
  19. Those action figures...
  20. I'm pretty sure those parts aren't cast, rather hot- or cold-worked. Much more expensive manufacturing process, which isn't suitable for the relatively small quantities of Valkyrie production.
  21. You're seriously tempting me to crack open my other 2 Kairos' and doing a 3+3 31A+0D display...
  22. I guess someone didn't want to scratch the paint off the wing-pegs, with how he has them propped up like that. The model looks great though.
  23. I think most of it comes down to: Improperly accounting for part shrinkage Bad material QC (inconsistent plastic, which can also compound other issues. This also includes inconsistent pin sizes) Lack of post-processing on molds. Bandai will polish their gunpla molds until the part fit is perfect. Most companies will not. Poor design. Sometimes things are just designed badly, gates are placed poorly, parts don't account for stress concentrations. Design is more of an art than a science, really, since it takes some creative thinking to come up with ideal solutions for complex designs. [edit] As far as Hard Anodize: unless you're calling out an anodization layer thickness, don't expect scratch-proof. Just found a big scratch through the hard black on a $1000 part I finished putting together Friday. Time to get the sharpie out again...
