Ok, so after doing some side-by-side comparisons, it does appear the 1J has a small amount of red in the white. These images are not retouched, under 400Watt equivalent of Daylight LEDs, no other lighting. "Camera" is a Samsung Galaxy S9 on default settings, DX VF-1J, Hi-Metal VF-1S, Arcadia VF-1J, and the Three Zero Ingram (since it's the whitest thing on my shelves) Bookshelves are Ikea Billy, which are pretty neutral white. Also some printer paper from Costco. The color difference is much more noticeable when compared to the grayish Bandai offerings or the Ingram than when the Arcadia is by itself.

Interesting, I've been waiting to pick up the Mercurius and Vayeate from the US site, but this might get me to go through a proxy instead.

ShowZ just emailed to confirm my address, so I guess they'll be shipping the Gurren Lagann sometime soon.

Yeah, for a shoulder something more like the ratchet above makes sense. I was thinking more for the fingers where there's not much volume available.

Supposedly the Kai has thrusters in various places, like shoulders, legs, and side-skirts.

Not toy design, at the scale you're working in I figured it might be worth using some other techniques. Essentially you separate the joint pin aspect from the friction aspect. For the pin, slip fit it through everything, and in the middle have a hidden captive washer that is press-fit, and keeps the pin from sliding out either side. ---|--- Then for the friction aspect of the joint, to keep things from just being loose, you could stick rubber washers inbetween the two plastic bits that rotate versus eachother. The rubber friction is over a larger area, and the washers would be easily replaceable if they got worn.

I don't think I've hit 5 figures yet, and they're letting me pay with card, despite being in a "no card" area.
-
Paypal is the default. Credit Card is accepted for people in some areas (not in mine). However, after using them enough, they've let me use Credit Cards there as well. Guess giving them a few thousand counts for something.

I think I recall someone else having a similar issue? Ought to be easy enough to glue back into place though.

If you want something with less wear than an interference fit (and less possibility of working it's way free), you could do slip fit, with an interference-fit washer in the middle to keep it from slipping out. Then rely on rubber washers or the like inbetween the joint sections to provide the holding friction. Just a random idea, off the top of my head.

And now for some reasonably priced, and highly anticipated, news: HG Mercurius+Vayeate set (P-Bandai) ¥4,180 https://www.taghobby.com/archives/478616 https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000149534 Also: HG Sandrock Custom for ¥1,650 (P-Bandai) https://www.taghobby.com/archives/478601 https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000149342

Never saw the sci-fy miniseries. From the trailer it looks to be fairly accurate. It also, however, looks like a soap-opera crossed with Bollywood when it comes to budget and effects...

Oh, a heads up on the stand. It'll extend easily, and it took me a bit to figure out how to collapse the arm back down. You need to press the little protruding bit behind the pivot towards the base of the stand. Not push it in, bend it down.

I just checked, managed to keep all my shelves (just) under the $2000 mark, street value. So long as I don't count the shelves in my storage closet. Those are worse.

That feels like a lot of money. Until I suddenly realize how much I'm spending on the Hachette VF-1...

So it looks like it's just missing the wing-flaps? Those certainly seem to be something that could be re-cast or scratch-built.

I'd advise waiting for release. This is on some level a re-relase of an existing valkyrie, so it shouldn't be scalped quite as much as usual. Worst case you'll probably be able to pick up the first release for a reduced price (re-release changes are nice, but still fairly minor).

Also how one of the gear-doors on one side is safe, but all the other gear doors are yellow. Very interesting.

Does Bandai have poor QA or am I just unlucky.

You can hide sloppy edges, scratches, uneven color, uneven finish, and other minor paint errors. Whole areas of removed paint? Of course not. It'll also cover up slight paint color/texture mis-matches. -

You can hide a lot of defects (including minor paint defects) with a matte coat, speaking from experience. -
I was quite impressed with the mechanism in the leg holster. The revolver folds down out of the way, but pops back up automatically when the panel is opened.

Just throw a matte or semi-matte coat over the top and they all disappear. -
I wonder if I could borrow the spectrometer from work, some of our stuff operates in the microwatt range so it's fairly sensitive.
-
Yeah, any company other than Bandai would be selling that for $60-$80ish.

Three Zero Ingram showed up. I have a bunch of images, but it looks like whatever fresh redesign they did over on Imgur is making it a complete PITA to manage galleries, so there's only a few up so far. https://imgur.com/a/OLHWK8X General impressions: Joints aren't super tight, but do appear to be firm. Roughly the height of the Metal Build Evangelion, lots of diecast, good (sparse, per anime) panel lines and detail/tampo. Panel lines are a bit heavy on the hands. Mine has 2 minor imperfections, a bit of extra paint on the extended baton, and some small splotches on the corner of one of the shin plates. On the whole, I like it.
