The design of that particular section is inherently bad. The joint is only supported on one end of the pin, and there's an un-chamfered inner corner to concentrate the stress.
-
Now I'm worried about the 3 Emerald Force VF-19 figures I have. Maybe I'll go check for cracks and maybe drip some superglue in the opposite end of the pin.

Whats Lying on your Workbench MK IV

I use the Olfa art knife, and it beats the heck out of Xacto these days (#11 blades don't last any time at all). -
Try Amazon, look for "brass rod" or "brass wire".

DX Chogokin YF-29 (Alto) Durandal Valkyrie - Reissue

I suspect they actually made it worse. On my copy pretty much every joint, clip, and peg is tighter on the new one. It makes it hold together much better, and the joints are tighter. On the downside, it means that in this case the ball joint might be a bit large for the socket. -
Same, looking forward to my pair (+1 backup from Nin-nin).

DX Chogokin YF-29 (Alto) Durandal Valkyrie - Reissue

So in my case, mine had a small gap (on both sides). I decided to leave it with that small gap (I.E. not shaving down the polycap or sanding the metal), so that I can tighten it up in the future when it gets loose. I did check that without the ball the clamshell closes up all the way, so it's not an issue with those parts. If you have one with a large gap, I'd guess that there's a nub or some flash on one of the parts preventing it from closing. Open it up and check would be my first step. -

Doing it right now. Wow, that screw is tight. [edit] Ok, that wasn't too bad. Just a really tight screw. Can't pull the shoulder clamshell open entirely, as the pin on the other end holds it together, but a spudger let me pry it open enough to remove the arm. -

Just a FYI, the shoulders ought to be a relatively easy fix. There's a screw holding the bottom half on, just undo it to open up the joint and find what's sticking out on the ball-joint, or tighten it to force the shoulder closed. -
Given that the YF-19 was released with all the missiles, FAST packs, effect parts, arm-gun, and fold booster: I'm guessing that the YF-21 will just be a full set pack as well.

In other words, Kawamori cares much less about the details than many here.

Finally, a 171 kit (apart from the mecha-collection one).

Wow, sounds like quite the improvement. I kinda want one, but not too interested in the v1.5s they've teased. Maybe a 1J+GBP.- 2130 replies

Well, with Cyberpunk delayed again (Dec 10th now), got plenty of time to figure out if I want to keep going with the 5700XT, switch to a 3060/3070, or go Big Navi (and hope their drivers aren't garbage for once). -
Arcadia 1/60 VF-4A ‘Flashback 2012’ Premium Finish & Regular Release

All they'd really have to do is switch the paint/ink they use for the panel lining from black to grey. Does wonders, honestly. I almost never use black panel lining anymore.- 1112 replies

I guess I got lucky, all my super-part doors are fine. Though one of the front-gear doors is a bit askew. -
Chances are decent a few people on these forums will have a spare for sale also. I know I've ordered 1 more than I wanted, just in case there's a defect with one.

Sorry for some additional bubble-bursting, but if they did make a Glaug/Regult/Queadluun DX it would probably not be in-scale with the VF-1. The DX line is generally similar sized figures, rather than similarly scaled figured.
