vf-31 siegfried WIP: Alternate Weapons Pods for VF-31
Sanity is Optional replied to Sanity is Optional's topic in The Workshop!
Swapping ought to be pretty easy, I've sized the peg hole to be the same as the one used on the DX Chogokin. As to a 1/72 version, I can try scaling it and then tweaking the dimensions to match the 1/72's pod. Since the 1/60 and 1/72 were both based on a proper CG model from the show it ought to be pretty close to start with. I've got a 1/72 on my shelf to check against. The biggest issues are going to be thickening up the plastic and fixing the hinge pin diameter so it's not scaled down. Now, the next one after this is trying to replicate the dual beam-cannon pod at the bottom of the page, that'll be a bit more interesting. -
The VF-1s haven't really disappointed me. Knew going in it's not a perfect transformation, just a smaller more affordable VF-1. The stand kinda sucks though when it comes to super-mode.

Oh yes, though I really want to see a new valkyrie design in the HMR line. They haven't done a new transforming toy in a long time.

So it'll match (more or less) the lineart from the tech manual. The missiles will launch vertically out of the pod rather than forwards, and the pod will be held above the wings running forwards/back rather than left-right like the YF-30. Top-left picture. As far as battroid, it'd probably be running left-right firing up, unless you wanted to have it up-down firing back behind the battroid. -
Working on it.

Still 1 in production and 1 in pre-production. I'll post an update when they show up. -
Well, if 1:3000 is 40cm, then 1:4000 ought to be 30cm.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Transformable Macross Δ Kits
Sanity is Optional replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
Yeah, if you paint over with anything opaque it'll look normal. -
Careful about leaving it on the flightpose for too long, supposedly paint will stick to the rubber used on the ends of the rods if you leave it for a long time. Looks awesome!

The real question is how much is reused, and how much is new parts. If it's just a recolored nose from the other 31s, then it'll be a painted over sensor looks like. If they're making a new part for the nose, it would be closer to the 31a in the tech manual.

You sure? That dark-grey bit sure looks like it's made of two halves.

From that it looks like the problem is that the pin is rotating in the outer piece, when it ought to be rotating in the inner piece. The gnurls are there to prevent that sort of thing and to hold it into the outer piece better. If I had to guess, probably caused by the fact the inner part of the hinge is 2 pieces, and if there's any sheer misalignment it'll cause the pin to bind and cause higher torque on the outer piece.

I guess it's time to dig out the 1200DPI scanner, anyone interested in the Hasegawa -31a decal sheet? Other than that it's just Bandai Valks and Gundam stuff.

According to the article (and google translate):
-
Yeah, their manufacturing quality isn't exactly up to Bandai standards, which I can understand considering they're hiring a factory rather than owning their own (like Bandai). Still, I'll take an easy fix over a complicated one.
-
Well crap, now I need one.

That's the same break I had on my Arcadia VF-1S Roy. That one is definitely due to poor nub removal on the plastic. Fixed that while it was open (shaved down the protruding plastic with a hobby blade), then glued it back shut and everything worked smoothly from then on.
-
I think part of the problem is that the original Yamato molds they're using have really terrible nub placement. Like putting the nubs on the contact surface of the bar in a joint. If the nub sticks out even a little it will cause severe issues.
-
I too require more desdroids. Also scout regult.
-
Loose ankle joint after 1 transformation you mean. Mine can stand in gerwalk... but only if nobody breathes on it. The Arcadia VF-19 Kai is just a recast of the Yamato, correct?

I'm glad that Arcadia re-designed the VF/YF-19 before they did their version.
