vf-31 siegfried WIP: Alternate Weapons Pods for VF-31
Sanity is Optional replied to Sanity is Optional's topic in The Workshop!
Looks like the 1/60 missile doors won't print in High-Def Acrylate as a combined model, but they will print individually (I got one as a test-print). -
Here's where I got a copy of the Armored figure from: https://plamoya.com/en/excellent-model-macross-frontier-klan-klang-armored-ver-pvc-figu-p-24005.html They've raised the price a bit since I got it though. [edit] Looks like it's about the same price as Ebay. You could use that 15% off coupon.

If you're looking for a Klan Klang figure, there's only one real option: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10119516 If you can find one, that is.

vf-31 siegfried WIP: Alternate Weapons Pods for VF-31

Looks good, glad it fits properly between the legs in fighter mode, that was a bit of a toss-up since it's based on the DX version and downscaled. I've actually had pretty good luck with drilling in FUD, just need to keep backing the drill out to clear the chips. My design ought to have thru holes everywhere with relief for the material to come out on the other end, which also should help. As to the wing mount, you're correct, it's to just have a bracket to put the gun on one of the hardpoints. Here's the two possibilities I'm thinking of: Leaning to the first one a bit. -

I've personally had some luck shaving the FUD with a hobby knife, it's definitely brittle though. As to the doors, if you can get a drill and drill-out the holes a bit, it might be made to work. Unfortunately the doors are quire thin, even at 1/60 scale, so the hinges had to be really small shaft. McMaster Carr does offer hardened steel shafts down to 0.5mm diameter, the hard part is finding a drill that small. I'll go back and tweak the hole on the 1/72 model for a 3mm shaft sometime this week, then it's on to making a clip to hold the VF-31s gun on one of the wing hardpoints. I'm thinking I'll mount it with the grip up, so the shell can slide forward into firing mode. Still unsure if I want it flush with the grip behind the wing, or dropped down a little so the grip can fit under. -
Mandarake and Jungle have them as well, I think in the ¥5500 range.

I suppose I ought to start priming and painting the inside now. There's a WIP over on the Workshop subforum, and the models are up on shapeways (no markup) if people want one.

Once mine finally shows up I can start matching the colors on my missile weapons pod, and ditch that stupid drone charger.

It can, it just has a peg or hole or something IIRC, to allow the super part to attach. Someone might have a spare if they're using it with super parts only.

Ok, updated the runners for 1:60 scale. The product pages for the 3 runner versions now have the option for 1:60 or 1:72 scale. 1:60 is set as default. -
Depends how much of a re-work it is. If they re-use the majority of the parts, the new mold costs could be kept quite low. I think the major candidate for a re-design is the complicated wing winging assembly, which could be re-done with just a few small parts (leaving the wing and body panels themselves alone).

However, the kit version of the 262 is actually fairly easy to transform. Which means it's not so much a problem with the design of the valkyrie, more a problem with the design of the DX Chogokin version.

Before powering your PC on, if you suspect it may have gotten wet, rinse it off with 99% Isopropyl alcohol and let dry. Ought to wash away any minerals left behind by the water which might cause shorts.
-
Yup, I have both, and the extra complexity in the wing hinges and the transformation mechanic is not necessary. The model transforms quite easily.

The VF-31 is considered to have very good mechanics, while the -262 looks great but is a bit... intricate in it's transformation. They're both worth buying, if you like the design, but the -31 is the more popular of the two going by the current prices. The VF-31 has super-parts available, but they were a Tamashii web store item rather than standard retail release. THe SV-262 has a pack which includes missile launchers for the legs/wings, Lil' Draken drones, a sword, and a fixed-pose shield. Again, Tamashii web shop.

My VF-1S Roy did the exact same thing, pretty easy fix though.

You can 3D print replacement parts, the hard aspect is getting the models to 3D print from. Scanning equipment that works at the resolution required is really damn expensive, and making 3D models of complex curved surfaces sucks.
