  1. The preorder madness for a Roy VF-1S will be legendary, when it finally occurs.
  2. Yeah, you can do re-casts, or take a 3D scan or some CMM probe data of a part and use it to build a CAD model of the negative mold. That might explain the small tweaks here and there.
  3. I really doubt this, the KOs have parts that are completely different shapes (yellow transparent bits on the tabs to the side of the head for instance).
  4. ...I can confirm that it is ¥31,385 shipped from Amazon Japan. Do not ask me how.
  5. HLJ has the Popynica in stock for ¥7,600 right now. CDJapan has it for ¥8000. Hobby search has it for ¥8000. And yeah, that 1/48 is reeeeeeeally tempting.
  6. Well, just going by re-watch/re-read numbers: Manga: Gunm/Battle Angel Alita Anime: Bubblegum Crisis 2040 For actual favorite? It's a hard call, there's some great stuff, both modern and classic.
  7. 3, 2, 1, Let's Jam. It's not a kit, it's the Bandai Popynica Damashii Swordfish II reissue. My backlog of kits is already bad enough without adding more to it. Of course, now that it's here, I'm tempted to pre-order the 1/48 Good Smile one that's coming out, but damn that price tag...
  8. I'm guessing setting up the paint masks and tampo prints is non-trivial.
  9. 30 has the better form, but 31 has the paintjob. Either way delta wing A+.
  10. Couple of purchases just made it here via SAL. One of the two immediately makes music run through my head, and I think we all know which one. Also not a recent purchase, but I finally unboxed my premium SDF-1, put in all the screw covers, and stuck it in a detolf.
  11. I think I paid 6k for my C version from Mandarake right at release, so they've stayed pretty steady.
  12. I wouldn't worry too much about the gears wearing out, you're looking at a pretty low load and low duty-cycle. Most motion transfer components (gears, bearings) have a duty life measured in thousands to millions of cycles, and the lower the loads are the longer they last. Take a look here (https://www.mcmaster.com/gears) and you can find gear+rack sets for a few bucks. There's CAD models available, if you have a CAD program to try and work in. Honestly I'd just buy a ready-made reducer gearbox if you want to slow down the motor, rather than making your own gear+worm set. [edit] Or buy a DC motor with built-in reducer gear, they have sets of 3 on Amazon for $8. I think the shaft with cams for pushing up a rod to actuate the deflectors is probably the most durable method, just grab some solid thrust bushings to keep the actuating rods in place.
  13. His is a bit different, but he did design that one as well, IIRC.
  14. Well, the gear/belt-drive is the easiest method most likely. Just shove a gear on the end of both shafts and link them. Remove one of the motors entirely. You could also try something like this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/toy.pdf [edit] Now I want to 3D print one of those rotary cam based things.
  15. Have you considered changing the actuation method? Gantry motor pairs have a lot of inherent problems. You could try a single motor with several mechanical linkages, or possibly set up some cheap pneumatics with rubber tubing. You could also try running the second side with a belt or chain-drive, rather than using a second motor. This would keep them in sync. [edit] Try grabbing the cogged belt/gears out of an old printer maybe?
  16. Got a similar email offer due to the delay of the 1/72 VF-1S Roy w/ supers.
  17. By that definition, Arcadia wins hands down over Bandai.
  18. I counted my backlog up. It's over 130 kits. From now on, I'm only purchasing P-Bandai kits until it's down under 50...
  19. Now that they're making the BD/DVDs with english subtitles included, I'll gladly buy the discs. Well, maybe not for Delta's TV series (as it sucked), but I did buy the movie.
  20. I have no idea, I haven't actually built it yet. It's in my backlog alongside the Phenex and Banshee.
  21. Of the Bandai DX Valks I have (VF-1J, VF/YF-19, (R)VF-171, (R)VF-25, VF-27, VF-29, YF-30, VF-31), the best is hands-down the VF-1, and the second place is solidly the VF-31. I like the look of the VF-25 more than the VF-31, but the VF-31 has much better engineering.
