  1. SV-51 and YF-21 are enemy mecha in their series. YF-21 ends up going good but then goes kamikaze, of course.
  2. I definitely think it's overrated. That said, it's got some good sci fi at it's core. Too many of it's premises are dated now, though... Especially the whole Japanese-Corporate-run-future thing.
  3. Whoah Thread Necromancy. For awhile I thought we were talking about a NEW game until I saw the date when I got to page 3 or 4 and started feeling the deja vu all over again.
  4. Anyone have the original trailer anymore? I want to see all that carnage again... and this time save it to the hard drive...
  5. PS and a 360 are still the best path into high def. Both are the fastest players on either format. The PS3 is much more the full media machine letting you browse the Internet, stream your stuff over and now with DivX/XVID/WMV today. 360 also adds DivX/XViD. Both have great visualizers for stored music and, of course, play games.
  6. Some XViD appears to work... up to the first 2GB that is... The new visualizer for music is great! Detailed shots of the Earth... Here's some pics: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=956907
  7. Not having been previously burned, my inclination is "no." That said I voted yes for those of you who value MISB. I'm an opener myself but definitely don't want to get burned on someone else's ghetto fabuluousness.
  8. Just had to order one. Can't wait. Haven't done a preorder since the Low Viz I got way back when....
  9. Yeah that looked pretty good. The outside visuals of the city don't remind me much of the original Batman Begins though (which seemed like it was always at night). Bigger and better, I suppose... Looks great, though. Can't wait.
  10. Sure. I'm just saying Megatron as a more primitive Galvatron makes more sense than a tank and all the other silliness they do for him these days. Nothing has ever really been very plausible about Transformers, what with the mixed series (Diaclone, Microman) and all the corresponding mixed scale business - Megatron, Soundwave, etc versus the larger scale trucks, jets, etc.
  11. I always thought Megatron as a more "primitive" artillery piece made more sense than the size-morphing/phasing hand-gun. Why would his "Scope" turn into a giant cannon anyway? Nothing I can do about chickenlegs MP Megs... but I would love to see a Masterpiece Galvatron...
  12. I have used Twonky and TVersity to stream FLAC as well. I already had the 160GB in there. I don't listen to a whole bunch of it, since I'm increasingly an audiophile, but that's what was on my iPod and it was an extremely easy transfer.
  13. Downloading the Burnout demo now. Hopefully I'll have a better impression d3j8. I have a 160GB drive in my originally 60GB PS3. I have about 50GB of mp3s and have a linux install, as well. Neat little device but won't really but unlocked if and until people start getting into the currently protected areas of the hardware (graphics accel, etc).
  14. The first HDDVD I bought in a long while (well since Transformers a few weeks ago) and boy am I disapointed. The BSG set really shows the limitations of the HDDVD format that would not have affected, say... a Blu-ray version. This set shows the 3 items that are all bandwidth intensive: 16:9, lossless audio, and PiP. Further the regular Dolby Digital soundtrack (for those of you without HDMI receivers) was gimped down to 384k, which shows how bandwidth. And I can't begin to vent at how the packaging left some scratches. Everything has played pretty good on my 360 add-on except Disc 5, which is a stuttering mess....
  15. Only from a Warner, a studio that has habitually left 20+ GB unused on their 50GB dual layer discs (see the original release of Superman Returns for example) and a reused encode that doesn't take advantage of the superiority of the Blu-ray format (which goes to jsarclight's point). But that's neither here nor there.
  16. Good point eugimon... i had forgotten that Peter was always alive. At the time we were simply assuming that Exploding Man (or Sylar) were the cause.... I thought Hiro was going to take him back 400 years so Adam could live it all again.... or get him killed or something. The coffin was a nice touch... still we don't know when it is, do we?
  17. It's simply undeniable that HDDVD is more limited than Blu-ray in it's technical capabilities. This is manifest in things like the usage of lossless audio, which not everyone appreciates (and indeed not everyone can without high dollar equipment, a room with the right acoustic properties, and an ear for it), which is Blu-ray uses in an overwhelmingly superior percentage than HD DVD. The greater capabilities of Blu-ray over HDDVD are not as instantly obvious as DVD had over VHS difference, for example, but the greater capabilities in bandwidth and capacity are indeed on Blu-ray's side and they're not trivial. That is most definitely a format issue. For perspective, Blu-ray's benefits over HDDVD are similar to HDDVD's own benefits over XBL HD downloads (720p, legacy audio, etc etc). The ultimate limitations of HDDVD are far well enough beyond DVD that I wouldn't be disapointed if it won, but for the potential we will have with a Blu-ray victory. Remember, DVD had reached it's boundaries the day it was released. HDDVD has already bumped those boundaries. Blu-ray has yet to reach it's full potential yet has consistently higher ratings on the most well known HD Review sites out there, from High Def Digest to Home Theater Forum to DVDTalk. I can whip out the statistics that other folks have dug up.... my purpose isn't to fight the format war here (and the thread on that site is as representative as you'll find anywhere from AVS Forum on with most of the same players), but to correct the fallacy that claims Blu-ray is not technically superior to HDDVD. Qualitatively, one can well say the benefits aren't necessary, etc or that the cheaper prices of HDDVD counterbalance those technical advantages... but there is simply not quantitative way to dispute that technical superiority. That said, I agree 100% that format potential needs good execution. There has been plenty of laziness and craziness on both sides from Universal's glut of subpar mass releases to some of Fox's work, to say nothing of the launch wave of Blu-ray releases. Like I said, not here to fight the format war.... anyone else can have the last word on the subject.
  18. Dunno if the gold goes with the YF-19 tan. It would sure look sharp on a Jolly Rogers scheme with white or even silver, though...
  19. Argh still seeing that image and no new pics of the YF-21. Any idea when you'll be weapons free to release your pics, Graham?
  20. Uh, exploding is a pretty good reason to die isn't it? His story arc was complete, as was Nathan's and Sylar's. Most of the arcs stunk from Claires to Hiro's. Why is Adam even English. Just make him Japanese Takeo Kensei! All 3 had potential...
  21. If I could even shoehorn a 1/18 fig in there, I would probably STILL buy it.
  22. With all the advertising they do, I was hoping they were going to go the other direction and give Silver the basic abilities to play games, etc. There is no way I'd ever pay for XBL when I have PSN and PC gaming for free...
  23. Might have to try that mod myself. One of the only weak links on the 360's otherwise great controller.
  24. Bold words. I wouldn't presume to challenge Michael Bay for knowing how his own films should look and which home video presentation brings them closer... As far as format, Blu-ray has a massive advantage in bandwidth and capacity. The latter can be dealt with relatively easy (and Toshiba is sure trying with it's 51GB discs). The bandwidth issue is far stickier and Toshiba's proposals (1.5x on their drives) are untested at best an unviable at worst. Effectively, HDDVD's limits mean out of the high definition standard of: 1) 16:9 AR 2) PiP/IME 3) Lossless audio you only get 2 out of the 3. They can do a 2.35:1 AR movie and give you the other two (even then it's usually tight) but you'll never get all 3. The straight HDDVD conversion from Warner were leaving 20GB unused on the disc and no 20Mbps free in the total MUX... HDDVD has had the whole year with PiP/IME but that ends in the beginning of the year and HDDVD has still lost near 50 consecutive weeks of sales, more often at 1/3 to 1/2 than not and their small lead in dedicated players is dwarved by the influx of PS3 owners versus 360 add-on owners...
