Hopefully SOny doesn't kill the 80GB since if/when I get another (hopefully in silver, please! Like I've been waiting for since E3 a couple years back) it still has some BC.

2 disc releases is marketing. They sell better. I never put in the second disc on most releases but don't mind that it's there. I m uch prefer that to special features like PiP parasiting off the precious bandwidth for the main release, especially on HDDVD which had barely over half the bandwidth available to begin with. Consumers won't truly win until Toshiba throws up the red flag, though and Universal and Paramount are releasing on Blu-ray. -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?

The YF/VF-19 Battroid back thrusters could be ducted from behind the cockpit somewhere. Whether that means there's a third fusion engine or if it's ducted all the way from the legs (and given the size of the plume seems like it's necessary) is another story... As far as the seat thing, it would also would have to rotate for "real" on the 19, as it does for the VF-1 but doubt it will in the toy. -
Got the Warhawk expansion the other night. Pretty fun, though it seems to me this should have been a standard free update to keep interest in an otherwise increasingly older game. Always looking for more Clan Members, too. I've been playing lots of COD4 recently, too. Hit me up if anyone wants to play either. PSN: Uxi

What 360 do you have? If you have an older one (without HDMI), 360 can only upscale DVD over VGA, which has its own set of issues. -

It could just be an attempt at easing the shock, but I doubt it's a mistake that Warner is waiting until May. Toshiba made probably my favorite DVD player. I look forward to a combo Blu-ray / HDDVD player for them... if anything can ever unseat the PS3 as my preferred player, that is. The 360 add-on, I've never been entirely satisfied with but I sure as poo ain't gonna pay anything but bargain bin rates for an HDDVD only player now. I'll either keep waiting for a Denon dual-format (though I am dubious that will ever come out now). I think Toshiba is the best bet since I don't see them just abandoning HDDVD... -

Uh Blu-ray has seen very few VC1 compared to AVC and MPEG2. Certain movies you may be right. Other movies, however... seeing single digit Mbps video bitrate, and the corresponding artifacts, to say nothing of the general soft look (VC1 is notorious for smoothing out grain) on other titles (Troy Directors Cut, for example) simply would not have had happened if it had say... 20 more Mbps on an AVC encode behind it. -
If you do a backup to a USB drive, you get everything. I did this when I put my 120GB in.

Unfortunately, dont' expect much better from Universal if/when they switch as they'll almost certainly use their HDDVD encodes and port them to Blu-ray. They might slap in extras on the same disc and maybe include a PCM track (which gobbles up lots of extra space), but wouldn't surprise me at all if the majority of their initial releases are on BD25 Single Layer discs completely unaltered from their HDDVD video and sound (which aren't bad by any means - just not to the bitrates that Blu-ray would have allowed). -

None of the dual format players out yet look worth it. They're more expensive than two good separate players (PS3 and A30, for example or Panasonic BD30 and A3, as well). I don't believe the new Samsung is Blu-ray profile 1.1 compliant, either, if that sort of thing matters to you (doesn't to me, even if the PS3 is). -

It's gotta be a setting issue. The 805 is a good receiver (Level 6 by the standards of the AVS Thread I linked) that can do DSP on 8ch LPCM. I was glancing through the 805 owner's thread on AVS and didn't really find anything (many of them are in a circle jerk over bitstreamed high res audio, which can sound no better than LPCM since the encoded bitstream is nothing more analogous than a zip or rar)... It sounds like a settings issue to me. When you go to Audio output on the PS3, don't do automatic... if you do manual, uncheck everything except 7.1 LPCM, set your PS3 to output LPCM and see what you get on your AVR. It should be something to the effect of "MultiCH 7.1" If you don't want to test with Resistance (which is a fine game but that's neither here nor there), you could try the Blu-ray of Crank or Descent (those are actually 6.1, but the PS3 matrixes them to 7.1 which is what your AVR should see). There are a few Lionsgate movies that do have native 7.1 but the specific titles escape me right now. Waiting is one IIRC. There is also the Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, which is also native discrete 7.1 LPCM. -
Which one? My Logitech MX5000 keyboard and mouse synched up flawlessly to the bluetooth on the PS3. If you have an IR set, you'll need to put the dongle in a USB port on the front...

First thing anyone should learn about hard drives is backups. Lots of them. Optical drives don't last forever, either. They both have their pros and cons... Hard drive gives way faster IO than an optical. Opticals add utility, portability, and a general carelessness that hard drives don't have.... Reality is somewhere in between the two: get both and you'll be a happy tech geek.

You should get one. There are pretty good deals out there right on the 720. I also don't like the... bulk... of the peanut shaped remotes. I sometimes with the transport controls were higher on the 720 and that I could dim the blazing bright screen but the rest of the remote is perfect. Charter's CableCARD went south and after 4 tries with techs who obviously don't know what they're doing with them, they sent me out an STB to tide me over in the meantime. A quick trip to the Harmony DB and I"m up and rolling like nothing happened. Well except for not having my Twin View, TV set favorites, etc but that's not Harmony's fault. -

That review was done way before the PS3 firmware was updated to allow upscaling (and 24p). And it already did 7.1 and TrueHD back then (both at launch AFAIK). -

I'm really quite baffled. I had 6.1/7.1 available from auto-detection since I got it in late December 06. I was bitstream then and 6.1 at first since my old HTiB AVR didn't have HDMI (optical, 5.1 analogs, and RCA stereo, of course)... Then once I got the Denon, it's been 7.1 (through Polk RM's) ever since.... Never had to do any work arounds or anything. I can take some screen shots of my setup screen maybe? Ultimate AV listed in their December 2006 review (pg4) that PS3 had "Superior audio decoding capabilities with 7.1-channel Dolby TrueHD." http://ultimateavmag.com/hddiscplayers/1206ps3blu/index.html -
Got a Dualshock 3 from Frank & Sons for $60 today. Never really missed vibration that much but I wanted a new controller anyway and the ceramic white was too good to pass up at that price. Tried out Lego Star Wars Complete Saga and Gran Turismo 5 so far and just like I remember it. Probably put in some San Andreas and Battlestar:Galactica for old times sake. I am still really hoping they come out with the Batarang (looks VERY ergonomic) and that they can put some improved cell-phone style variants to rumble in there. I want at least "dot" and "dash" in addition to the more "normal" rumble... I mean if my work provided RAZR can do those, a game controller can sure as hell do that...

Say what? I get 7.1 just fine from my PS3 to my Denon 4306 over HDMI (set to LPCM). Movies (Crank, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, etc) and games (Resistance: Fall of Man, Heavenly Sword, etc). Sounds like your receiver has an issue accepting LPCM? The Future Proof receiver thread at AVS seems to indicate your receiver should be capable of doing it.... Where some AVR's aren't up to snuff is getting more than 5CH over LPCM, and if they can perform their DSP on it... My Denon is also a "Level 6" receiver and performs PLIIx on any 5.1 ch mix. Quite easily remedied flawlessly with a $15 IR receiver (I'm using the Nyko). I use my Harmony 720 and have full functionality in Blu-ray movies and even games on everything except the PS button. No lag. "turbo" speed when I hold down the arrow pad. All with info straight from the Harmony DB and no "learning" required. Here's the AVS thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=761809 Jump at least to page 20 or so to escape the people using the PS2 contraptions.... -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?

10,000 Yen is a great price. Would be very nice to keep it around $100 with Fast Packs. They'll need to redo the GBP again, but maybe this time we'll get removable missiles and other gimmicks added to the 1/48. Hopefully they can stay away from the Micky Mouse hands and needing extra shoulders. And DEFINITELY avoid the falling off codpiece on the original (one area where the removable nose cone probably makes more sense). -
HLJ has more pics up. Including one I hadn't seen before of the YF-21 Battroid with FAST Packs "in flight" on the stand with a gunpod in hand. They're saying April release?

Love it. I still like the 5 x 1/60's I already have but will definitely be buying these. Love the 1S head sculpt and that it looks like a front/back seam instead of the stupid 1/48 left &right half with the seem straight down teh middle. I'll definitely be getting a Roy and at least two CF's. I'd love for them to do a 1A, 1J, 1S low-viz squadron/team, as well. Bring on the 1/60 Regult! -

Even then the new LCD's only match brightness. They don't come close to matching SXRD-level blacks, for example. Especially the Sony Bravias. Plasmas are comprably still very expensive for 1080p 60" or bigger... It's definitely a shame, though. I was planning on a 70XBR5 and moving my 60XBR1 to bedroom duty. Guess I'll save up a bit more and get a Black Pearl projector and a 123" Vutec Silverstar instead. -
That said, I dream of a 1/60 Regult I can buy 4 or 5 of.
