gnarly. Chipped? Mine is now in the same city (having it delivered to work). Hopefully it will get here today and not tomorrow and I'll be able to verify myself. -
That's the 1/72 next to it? Looks great, will definitely be watching.

Sand it first or something. -
I like it that Alpha/Legioss done in skull squadron markings. I'ma probably be getting some CMs Legioss since they're sturdier than the MPC and given their already cartoony paint, am thinking of repainting it similar to that.

I have a knock off of the Tokyo Mauri airsoft M1A2 Abrams and love it. My VF-27 from Ami Ami has cleared customs in SF and left about 8 hours ago. Wonder if I'll get it today. Talk about fast shipping! ordered 2/18, confirmed that night. Received in stock notice at 02:19 on 2/19. Paid at 08:10. Shipping notification 2/20, 01:37. Arrive in customs in San Fran, 2/21 at 13:46, cleared out of customs 2/21 at 17:13.

You apparently missed all the scenes of the Armored and Super VF-25 unleashing their clouds of missiles. As well as the VF-11 Protect Armor.

It looks like you would be repainting that white stripe, no? That definitely sucks, and shades of white can also be hard to match, though. I'll probably avoid Battroid since I'm most fond of it's fighter mode. -

I didn't know you could that (check usps.com). "Inbound Out of Customs, February 21, 2010, 5:13 pm" Hell yeah, that is fast! I'll be using amiami from here on out unless HLJ does those paypal free shipping specials, etc. Never had any complaints about HLJ, but this is amazing fast service from amiami. -

I'm telling ya, just do an AvP movie like a modern porno. Don't bother with that plot or anything... just gimme a couple hours of carnage with hissing aliens and techmo gizmo Predators. -
I'm hoping the refresh feature a few revisions, so it can lock in cruiser mode, without needing the stand, etc.
-
Yeah sounds like Starship Troopers. There would still be a role for "tanks" aka Destroids with Valkyrie-scale weaponry but regular human infantry could look alot like Zentran infantry.

Sounds to me like the base color came off of Graham's, not the markings. That would be bad. I'll probaby leave it in fighter and maybe just transform to Gerwalk since I'm not as fond of the lean designs (and do loooove that VF-27 fighter). My VF-22... I think I need to get another one to display in Battroid or Gerwalk. I love Gamlin's in fighter mode so much, I leave it there on my desk instead of on the shelf with the rest of my Macross stuff (only room to put it in Battroid right now). -
Bandai Visual would be the most likely choice. IIRC the only reason HG is under consideration is that they're almost certain to make it a legal issue. If Seto's logic is correct, it's too small for BW to bother fighting it in court (or presumably proxy that legal fight through anyone else). Too bad Bill Gates isn't a Macross fan.

Mostly the same issue people have with DYRL SDF-1 coloring versus the TV SDF:M. Especially seeing it in the VF-1 Master File, I don't want my SDF-1 any way other than TV colors, but most folks around here seem to prefer DYRL color scheme. That and many people think the lighter scheme is just different from the anime. See the pic on Anymoon's review.

How long until some of these human fleets start fighting each other? The Varauta were a unique case, obviously, but eventually Eden could have beef with another colony. The closest we've seen is Galaxy versus Frontier, but Galaxy was largely using the Vajra as proxy. Full blown warfare between two client/member states, if not a full civil war in NUNS? As far as the destroids themselves... Monster has a clear path through the Koenig. The Macross II variation seems mostly cosmetic differences. Phalanx derivation... Macross II Phalanx upgrade was always one of my favorite destroids. Gets that chin gun with a bunch of thrusters on the back... but I'd actually see the Defender and Phalanx merging into an Aegis system. One or two big missile pods with long range missiles. Eventually the 3rd generation would completely merge them and move entirely towards micro-missiles in the 2040s (just like all the valkyries are doing). Some could be optimized towards ABM capability while others would pack different load outs, including possibility of reaction weapons. Tomahawk: 2020s gets a gun or two like the Stampede? General improvements in armor and agility. Call it Tomahawk II 2040's Tomahawk derivation gets a permanently mounted gunpod like the buster from the Protect Armor... Tomahawk III? Ballistic Shield on the other arm, probably with a hand. A few dozen advanced micro-missiles. 2060's should see something like the VF-27's BGP-01β 55mm particle beam cannon, probably permanently mounted on the arm (if not the entire arm itself). PPB and Ballistic shield with PPB melee weapon. battle axe?

2001 is better but I like 2010. They're both quite a bit dated in their portrayals of many things, of course. The Jaws guy was less wooden than that other cat, too. -
The subs and translations are already done. Pay some of the fansubbers, maybe, or get their own bilingual people to do it, but I really don't think that's be tops on the list. VA's depends on the level of talent. Avoid the celebrities and what not and should be reasonably priced. The music would need to be redone if they did a dub anyway, so the secondary licensing goes away there. I threw out Gaga as a joke but getting a good quality VA could definitely be a way to try to expand the genre. That would be the most extreme example, I think, and more likely it's a b-grade group of possibly up and comers but alot of strange things happen, particularly if bundled as part of the LAM deal. I don't think any of us give HG much credit for that, though. It's definitely a niche market, but just look at the populations of the US and don't forget to factor in Europe because HG is interfering there, too. It's EVERYWHERE outside of Japan, that is all SNAFU, isn't it? I imagine it doesn't apply to HK and Asia since it's so close... Everything comes from Asia, including all of the domestically marketed toys The cheap labor offsets the shipping costs, no doubt. HG would no doubt try to gouge. Maybe that's the reason there's no deal... or maybe the legal wrangling is too complicated for them to want to try. What's the margin on the toys? How much do they actually cost a producer to make? Video distribution is well known to be VERY profitable. It's pennies on the dollar for Blu-ray and much cheaper for DVD. Packaging and shipping, etc. Sure, especially now that we can get Ami Ami. Let's not forget the whole Toycom incident and that we were thinking 20-25% off of what we're paying now was the ballpark guestimate. The argument doesn't hinge on us, though... it's the far larger market that just doesn't know about a rather obscure japanese anime or it's numerous merchandising in games and toys because they don't get casually picked up at Toys R Us, or Best Buy or Game Stop or the like.

Ami Ami says only 2 left. Check that, temporarily sold out. Was the production limited on this one, too?

Oh I have no doubt that his being disgruntled is for a legitimate reason and there's a perfectly good reason I never tried to bother participating over there... their forums looking like ass don't help, either.

What investment? Subbed, as it is, made with a bit of editing (ep8 panty episode of Frontier might be difficult even for CN). Distribution? Toys and the like, HG would just farm it out to Diamond and the like, wouldn't they? If HG wanted a dubbed Robotech adaptation, they'd be the one paying for VA on all that nice animation that's already done. I don't see it costs BW anything, since HG would presumably bear the costs for international distribution and cut BW their check every month. Guess it could be too small to be worthwhile, but it will always be greater than nothing (which is all it is now). Maturity wise, I don't think it's too absurd to think it could be executed at least as successful over here as say... the Clone Wars cartoon, though probably less marketable due to lacking the Star Wars franchise, of course. Frontier is definitely good enough to get a spot on Cartoon network as a weekly show with at least minimal advertising revenue (if not presented as a generic Macross analog to Robotech where they they could loop SDF:M, M7, MD7, and Frontier). legit DVD and BD sales and merchandising would depend on that? So you say... you appear far too biased to take as a reasonable authority on that. Indeed. Great Batman. Hamil's problem... is that he seemed to "act" decently in Star Wars and the rest of the original trilogy. But more often than not he's plain BAD everywhere else in live action (every other role reminds me of his Wing Commander performance more than anything). If anything, I get a more of a Walter Koenig vibe from Hamil and that he'd like to escape Luke but can't (especially since he's so bad everywhere else and/or the projects aren't as successful). He's probably only still used for projects cause of his name cachet

I could use that box by myself. Well... realistically, I'd probably one want 2 or 3 of each color... Guess additionals if I actually wanted to put pilots in my 1/60 Regults.

Sure, being Region A sure helps and if/when they do set of the whole series and put some good English subtitles on it, I'd probably buy it. The only Macross I've bought were the Legacy Robotech set (just the macross saga, didn't buy SC or New Generation or whatever they called Mospeada), and I bought the Animeigo set for $40 also from HG. I doubt BW has seen any of that. DYRL and my first M7/MD7 set were HK bootlegs, both of which, (along with Plus) since replaced by remastered torrents with fansubs. How many valks do you own? How many would you own if they were say... 10-15% cheaper? 25%? I have a dozen Yamato valks and 1 Bandai VF-27 en route (and a bootleg Fire and Blazer my gf got me a few years ago ). I'd easily have a half dozen more if they were more reasonably priced, wouldn't you? International fans have almost always usually paid MSRP plus finders fee plus EMS. Now that ami ami is here, hopefully HLJ sales get more frequent, but online is still usually cheaper than getting toys from local vendors. Frank & Sons here in Southern California has great selection and you get instant satisfaction but pricing is usually more comparable with HLJ+shiping than Ami Ami, unfortunately, though you do get to barter a bit. For example, I pulled a great deal for $100 for a CF SV-51 but the one vendor who still has an Armored Ozma wants $280 for it. Sure, whatever get its over here. I just don't see it happening without legal fights that would probably be Pyhrric, which is why we haven't seen it yet.

That kinda does go into an economic, if not Fleet logistics models. Start making captains "pay" for their maintenance and crew slots and the advantages of smaller ships make more sense. A Sovereign must have far greater upkeep costs and a gigantic multiple of the crew than an Intrepid, after all. Weird ships like the Defiant would be proportionally even more atrocious. Are there science/survey missions you can do without going to red alert and firing weapons all the time?
