I don't think the original is all that great to begin with. The 'Ancient Astronaut' schtick was kinda entertaining as was the original Starbuck's character. And the basic story has promise, too. But if I had to watch that SAME Cylon blow up one more time... Oh yeah forgot to mention that I miss the old Cylon raider. It should have been given the "Mark II" treatment and upgraded not replaced with that dorky thing. (FYI, one reason the Trade Federation might use a battle droid "manned" AAT tank is that they had made it to sell to non battle droid use. The same line of logic could be used to ask why make battle droids shaped liek humanoids? Etc). Definately hope to see more of these new Cylons and not the wanna be sexy version. (Yes, she did kill that baby for some reason).

Yeah that'd be nice. But I'm hoping for 1/60. I probably won't do GBP if/when it's out in 1/48.

Which is your favorite Star Wars movie?
Uxi replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
RotJ, though TPM and AotC are close. I like them all, of course, but if I had to rank them, it would be thus: 1) RotJ 2) TPM 3) AotC 4) TESB 5) ANH -
Damn dude, I'm not a spelling nazi or anything, but at least proof read if you're gonna post like THAT. We know that chic is NOT Starbuck. But it's not coinicidence that they picked that name (callsign or not) for her. As far as B5 goes, the war ended too quick. They should have had the war go the whole way through season 4 and end right at the end of season 5. But yeah season 5 is definately a downer. And Crusade wasn't any better. But an interesting anecdote is that they filmed the last episode of the series at the end of Season 4, when they weren't sure they would get a season 5.

VF-1 (Low-Viz). -
Eh. It was ok. Not great, but not absolutely horrid, either. Starbuck wasn't as bad as I feared, but didn't need to be made a chic. Boomer being an asian chic drew a bigger "WTF?" from me. Why do they need to use the old names if they're not going to be anything like the old characters? The pseudo wanna-be military without much semblence of actual military discipline is a bit irritating, but not worse than much else on tv. Definately think the "Terminatrix" Cylon is getting too cliche. As campy as the original was, I prefer it to this one, though the SFX are admittedly better. Viper evolution is ok to see. I like the nod to the past the new one was doing, but don't know why this had to be a remake instead of another sequel (:shuddering at brief memories of Galactica 1980:). But yeah, I agree with the B-actor part, too.

Damn them!!! Let them get their own contacts. Quicker release and cheaper prices they're not gonna get any sympathy from me! How come Yamato has to be so... Japanese. lol. Rhetorical. It's because they're a Japanese company... but come on!

Hmm... It's possible. I'm about due for a new mobo and CPU (and more/faster RAM NEVER hurts). But didn't have any problems with A-One/ANBU's Ep 1 or Ep 2... Might have to burn it to VCD or something and see how it looks through progressive scan on my Sony 16:9 HDTV.

What a bunch of asshatery going on here. Modern 20th century homosexuality has no real analogue in past versions. Even in the ancient Greek, most would still take a wife and procreate. Even if they were having FUN doing it with another male. But most of the greek stuff wasn't man-man. It was man-boy that is most famous (aka NAMBLA-style). In Ancient Rome, for example, it was practiced in anecdotes in the legions and certain decadent Emperors, but most scholarly sources of the period would seem to indicate it was considered scandalous, if not outright discouraged (much less persecuted). To blame its supression on any religion since is equally ludicrous as claiming comparable antecedents to modern Western forms. Even without disregarding that Catholic (in particular) influence over government was STRONGEST in the centuries before modern homosexuality became tolerated. And most of us in the military DO NOT WANT IT. Emotion can't be regulated, but behavior certainly can (and IS) while one is under oath/contract/enlistment/commission.

I thought Graham said his contact no longer has as up-to-date info as he did before. Or something along those lines. Yeah, I second the motion on WTF is up with the YF-19FP. Wonder if they even tooled up and/or if these things are sitting in a Yamato warehouse somewhere... (I'm kinda thinking the proto's are done and waiting to be mass produced... that or it got sent back for a retry). Course, what's up with the Monster, too? And the Q-rau. Anyone? Bueller? I got Yamato's latest letter but haven't had time to babelcrap it... Seems like M0 would be next. Then Q-rau then destroids, led by the Monster. A VF-X2 VF-22S FP is what Yamato could crank up with little effort really. They already sculpted the parts. Just mold it in a different color and do a different paint job and I'll have 2 of 'em keeping my YF-21 FP company.

Nice. Is the animation supposed to look kinda choppy at places? Sometimes its smooth as butter but other times seems like the frames are skipping choppily along, though... anyone else notice anything similar?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I have the XBOX version and liked the story and LFL SFX... but I abhore the rpg mechanics. I wish they'd have used a mod of the Outcast/Academy engine myself... Is the PC version a great improvement over the XBOX? -
Yeah. We barely have a month or two notice on any Yamato release. Where's the YF-19FP? Wasn't it originally gonna be before Xmas 2002?
-
So you decide to waste MORE space being critical about it? It would matter if she has bigger breasts in the context of the question of the original post: Is the animation being inconsistent or has Mao just hit her growth spurt or what? Yes/no with reasons is being constructive. And it just isn't Macross without a love triangle. It's only been in every series till now. Yes, pubescent girls ARE pretty popular in anime. And given the nature of this forum, one would have to have been hiding under a rock to have not seen it yet.

Hikaru blasting Bodolza in the face definately.
-
Not with Lucas. "Classic Trilogy" refers to the only way the original trilogy is EVER going to be seen again and that's via the Special Edition cut (or future modification thereof). Possible he'll change his mind (as well as do the originally planned third trilogy), but don't hold your breath.

Eventually valks yellow, break (poor backpack hinge), and get replaced by better sculpted and more detailed larger scale new models by young buck companies? I didn't get that from the original post, either.
-
he has them in those? Does he? I'd buy a set... especially if he included some decent instructions on where to put 'em, even though I've got it about as figured out as I need.
-
What he said. I liked their releases of the first two and want their third for consistency sake.
-
Well if they have the art and boxes done up for him and don't sell many then they'll end up losing money. *Max* doesn't sell that well (his valk is always pretty cheap compared to Hikaru and Roy), it's extremely doubtful Kakizaki (who's a big fat loser in both SDF Macross and DYRL) would sell better than MAX. I'm surprised we saw a Max in 1/48
-
I'm so-so about Battroid (and the heatshield) but fighter mode looks gorgeous.
-
I've successfully resisted most of the 1/48s. Bang for the buck is too bad for import pricing. But think I might do the Hikaru VF-1S after all... already have the FAST packs waiting for it. But that said, still some great deals on the Max -1A... just want it to get a little. bit. lower.
-
Can I get a royalty on the name? If not, then I just second the suggestion of "eyesonme78sfriend.com"

Those ships are troop transports not battlecruisers or even destroyers. Makes it even worse! Why build a big fleet of troop transports without proper armament? But it wasn't the worst movie though. For what need do the troop transports need to be armed? In the movie, they didnt know the bugs had the plasma-fart cannon things... And who says there weren't armed escorts "off camera"? Don't get me wrong, Starship Troopers is hardly a great movie, but there are far far worse things out there. And the book is kinda overrated, anyways. Distinctions need to be made with the low-budget crapola and the big stuff. You can nominate almost all 70s-today low-budget sci-fi. First, if it's got such a low budget, then it's almost certainly crap (possibly a gem in there, but who wants to dig through the crap to find it?). I'm not trekkie enough to decipher why Enterprise could make it to the center of the galaxy but I would question if Voyager was even out yet when ST V was made (and if not, it would be the fault of Voyager). I've read that Paramount sacked the budget and much (including the finale) had to be improvised but still doesn' change the fact that the plot is a stinker. But it's still miles ahead of other things like Battlefield Earth and Waterworld. Anyone mentioning The Phantom Menace or the Matrix can go back to the Tool-shed. Say what you want about the prequels, but they are miles ahead of anything with Costner or most of Connery in it.

Economics dictates that the smaller and more affordable valkyrie will sell more. Many people are scared off by a >100$ toy. But having an improved 1/48 and an improved 1/60 aren't mutually exclusive options... some people will want bigger with fine detail like the cockpit, etc. Others (like me) want the functional detail and better sculpt but smaller and more affordable. The 1/60 sculpt is inferior and very little about the 1/48s sculpt can't be replicated effectively in a smaller scale and there shouldn't be any inherent fragility in it, beyond that which is already in the *1/48* (namely the backpack connection). You're not talking about the air-brake, etc but that is practically the ONLY detail the 1/48 has that the 1/60 doesn't. Little things like the cockpit would be nice for something like the 1/48, but we don't have a whole lot of it now beyond a sticker that doesn't fit without custom trimming. My 1/60 dreams aren't gonna happen because it would kill a good portion of the 1/48 market. But let's not mistake it for what it is, though. I like the 1/48 but they're too big and expensive (at import pricing) for me to ever want more than a couple.
