Um... you have seen the movies, right? Did you actually watch them? Correlation != Causality. The "M-things" were not explained to be either cause, or effect. There was definately a noted correlation there in the extremely brief dialogue on the subject, but is it the chicken or the egg that came first again? All the "M-things" do is give a psuedo-physiological aspect to the whole "Force is strong in my family" schtick. Reproduction not necessary to keep a Jedi Order of approximately 10,000 out of a Galactic Republic of trillions of individuals from hundreds, if not thousands of species. Corran Horn's Jedi tradition was explicitly stated to be different from the norm.

Interesting review. I have had the 5-star set for awhile. I payed under $50 shipped for the whole thing, too IIRC. Quality isn't outstanding (i'm using a relatively higher end system - 34" Sony 16:9 HDTV connected via component to a Toshiba DVD system and Sony DTS surround sound), but far far better than VHS. Course, I like that they're SE and have little sympathy for the "original only" grognards.

Exactly. While my VF-19A isn't my favorite, it's about as good as any other Yamato. Same mold with some tweaks (additional joint movement maybe and ratcheted improvements for those floppy legs, etc) would undoubtedly be more economical, too. Can't really get much more detail at that size. So just go 1/60. About the size of a 1/48 and in scale with my VF-1 and Q-rau collection.

I just want a mild refresh ala the other 1/72 FP's. THEN redesign and resculpt for 1/60.

I knew to skip this one. I'm gonna wait for the 2nd or 3rd down the line. If I can get a Scott/Stig later for cheap I'll do that. More likely than not to get a Shadow.

Scientists vote 'Blade Runner' best sci-fi film.
Uxi replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This thread is funny. Elistism and trolling in the same thread. I've always thought Blade-runner was overrated. Usually by the pointy-headed scientific types who probably the subjects of this poll. It's an ok movie, but definately behind 2001 as far as "hard-SF" is concerned. The Japan aura is so early 80s cliche, too. -
What do you guys think of the new Exorcist movie?
Uxi replied to SupremeKaioshin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Seriously. Guys who usually think they're the smartest thing around.... usually aren't. But yeah, they should have stopped after the first one. -
Hell yeah. I've been enjoying my bootleg DVDs for awhile now. And I still have EVERY intention to buy this set. And the diamond encrusted 6 movie set later...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Uxi replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ancient compared to an X-Wing or TIE Interceptor? You bet! Unfortunately, your "point-of-view" (as Ben Kenobi would like to say) isn't the one that was being referenced. "Sad devotion to that ancient religion" is the only time I recall the Jedi being mentioned in that context. And look at the source. -
Yeah haven't heard of half these guys. You'd think there was actually backstory and not a quickly cobbled together pieces of completely unrelated toy-lines. Sounds cool, though. I'd best most is from the comics or something.

Credibility? For an action flick? Um... yeah. The first was the best IMO, but I also like the other 2, also. This set has been rumoured for a long time. One of the reasons I only borrowed the 2nd and 3rd DVDs.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Uxi replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Actually, yes X-Wing Alliance would be exactly that. Official. As opposed to "canon." IIRC, the EU has implied that the Emperor makes the Jedi scapegoats for the Clone Wars in a sort of "official Retcon". -
I don't think the Yamato stickers are THAT bad. The only ones that bug are the ones that go on curves. Like the intake stickers, etc. The rest I can live with. I would buy some of the stickers at Takatoys... but I don't have nearly enough time to want to cut them out myself.

Does anyone KNOW that sales of the 11 and 21 FP were "abysmal?" Really, I'd prefer they used the VF-19A mold with add on FP and maybe a tweak or two (ala the 11 and 21). Having one (supposedly) improved sculpt with those 2 just won't be right unless they redo the whole line. In fact, I'd be the happiest if they release the 1/72 YF-19FP like that. Then save the new mold business for a 1/60 scale series. But I'm believing the project is vaporware myself.

Alf sucks. I wouldn't want that series on DVD as a gift. I got Sledge Hammer as a gift, though, and have been laughing my ass off. Loved that show as a kid and am enjoying it now... though admittedly most of it is nostalgia. Some of it so corny it's funny (Sledge punching the snake, for example).

I saw it yesterday and thought it was ok. I don't really see the Predator that the Governator being beat as being super dexterous compared to the "Scar" Predator or 2 his much more easily slain compadres. Especially considering their rookies who had to earn their spurs. I did question the number of alien drones but didn't really mind it. I WOULD have preferred they had this movie with no dialogue. Just 2 hours of carnage. I'm gonna ignore the minor quibbles like the Predator gun being too big, etc because 1) they're not indicative of what trained/experienced/proven Predators would use , 2) No good frame of reference for the comparison, and 3) it strays too close to fan boi territory. I cringe at the thought of Colonial Marines if they're going to be anything like the undisciplined 'tards from the Aliens movie.

Looks pretty cool. Panel lining and detail are a must, but I'm not thinking we're gonna be disapointed. I would like for a limited version of the Destroid Monster in 1/60 scale, as we were originally hearing about. I was probably gonna pass on it, but it would be a very cool toy.
-
They're about the same IMO. I compare my M+ toys to my 1/60 to my 1/48's... They go up and down between versions. Sometime fatal and near fatal flaws (VF-11B hips and 1/48 backpack hinge come to mind), along with the occassional vaporware product (1/60 FP upgrades, YF-19FP)... Still the best Macross toys around.

Interesting... might be some custom fodder right there...

The DUTCH factor.. Importance of PREDATOR
Uxi replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The 2nd one. Good movie but I don't think it was anything revolutionary. Course, most of you people seem to think Blade Runner is something great when it's kinda plain to me (and indeed dated in many ways: partciularly the Japanese-hyseteria of the 80s). -
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Yeah where are these guys? The title fits. Should be a great movie! -
Eh, good find I guess. Every time I see these vintage ones I sigh in admiration at the Yamato.

Heh, those having their childhood raped by sequels to the movies of their youth need to where the nice sleeveless jacket and sit on the couch in the rubber room. Like so many other things with the prequels, Midichlorians are merely an aspect of something we've already seen. Namely it's a biological means of supporting "the Force is strong in my family." It doesn't prescribe either cause or effect. It just is. Any attempt to make it something it's not is approaching of the recockulous nature of childhood rapings. The movies are all about the same level of objective quality, save for increasingly improving special effects.

Nice pics. That fighter is ugly, but I can see the lineage. I'd have hoped for Y-wing and/or X-wing precursors (Z-95) more than TIE, but TIE makes sense.
