I always liked the Mac II mecha better and the Monster is no execption. That thing is a beauty!

That's great. Yeah, I still miss my 1/60 FP upgrades. At this point, like the YF-19FP, I'm not expecting the VF-0 anytime soon... if ever.

Some of the late 70s early 80s press material on Storm Troopers explicitly talked about the stormtroopers being clones, as well. In light of the things have actually developed as opposed to how they may have been planned, it seems clear that at least a large part of the initial outlay of stormtroopers were the clone troopers. As mentioned in AOTC and in this thread, the clones based on Jango needed him to be present to continually use them. Once the Empire was in place, recruiting would make sense for numerous socio-political reasons, and as the real life Nazi stormtroopers show, it's not incredible to belive people could or would take that path for themeselves. As far as the movie-canon Nazi's, Lucas has set up a large establishement to ensure that the EU is internally consistent and that the movies mate up with the EU (or at least don't outright contradict it). Except in matters of minutae, they've been remarkably successful, especially if one considers the pure volume of material out there. While Lucas reserves the rights to contradict the EU... he hasn't done so yet.

The Stormtrooper are more than effective against nameless and faceless rebels in the Tantive IV, at the beginning of Ep 4. It's just against the main characters that they can't hit poo... and that's because they're protected by The Plot.

This arguing over minutae is hilarious. Can it be outside of the galaxy but not "beyond" it? Kinda like if you're beyond Pluto you'd be "outside" of it (but still within the heliosphere and thus "inside.") As far as the EU, there's a staff that goes to great lengths to see that previously published material isn't contradicted. The Great Plaid One reserves the right to contradict all of the stuff... but he hasn't yet.

Just got a CF VF-1A in 1/60 scale and boy, I sure got a good model. Best 1/60 to date. Stays in Gerwalk without a hitch. The FLIR / leg clip things are nice and tight. Makes me the love 1/60s all the more. That said, I still wish Yamato would revisit 1/60 with some 1/48 features (telescoping feet, radar, air brake, etc) and leave this things proportions. I love them! Nice and easy to handle. And the backpack doesn't scare me like the 1/48. I got it for only $25 bucks! Just wanted to share.

To this date, I think I like ATF Gold the best. Could fly around in just about everything out there. Just wish they'd do something like that with today's CPU's and graphics cards in mind... I, also, have a Saitek (older X35T/X36F) that never gets much use these days. At least the poor selection of games means I won't lust after a Thrustmaster Cougar anymore.

Wow that is some excellent progress! I'm thinking something like a spring or hinge for gerwalk so that the front can stay locked while the rear rises... I dunno, I really hate the stepped approach. Definately some more articulation in the knees so that we can get a classic Gerwalk ostrich like stance...
-
I kinda like the color. Might have to consider this one after all.

Some diecast would have been welcome on the backpack hinge, as Yamato left the weakest part of the toy... weak. Hell yeah Destroids (1/60 please) would r0x0r! I think having them in pairs would work good... that way the unpopular one could get bundled with a popular one. "Army builder" packs of 4-like Destroids (with stickers/paint jobs) distinguishing leader from troops, etc would be cool, too. I would loads of 2 pack of 1/60 scale Destroids in the 7200 yen range if they were well articulated. I would rather have plastic than die cast for paint chipping concerns.

No, not quite. Lucas himself has said something to the effect that the Jedi use the Force with it's balance in mind. The Sith OTOH, are only interested in their own power and use the Force only for their own benefit. Think of the Jedi as "conservationist" and the Sith as "polluters." The imbalance in the Force that "The Chosen One" is meant to balance is that created by the Darth Sidious. It's the reason Mace Windu talks with Yoda about the Jedi losing their ability to use the Force and Dooku about the Dark Side clouding the Jedi vision... Darth Sidious is sucking up all the mojo for his own benefit, and weaking the Jedi at the same time.

Damn this thread is ungodly huge. Could we at least have it broken into Macross, Southern Cross and Next Generation MP threads?

EPISODE III Trailer Description Hits
Uxi replied to Doktor Gonzo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think so.. George got a huge amount of crap for these last 3, I think the fanboys ruined the experience for him. I do not think he will look back on this Star Wars prequel experience favorably. You're crazy if you think he's batted one eye-lash at the "raped childhoods" out there. He's laughing all the way to the bank. Though rec.arts.sf.starwars.misc has (or at least had) in their FAQ the documentation on Lucas' flip-flopping on the "Sequel Trilogy", he's been pretty consistent since for the last few years. Unfortunately it's consistently against... But I'm hoping he takes another brief break... 10 years or so... and THEN does VII, VIII, and IX. First he can do "Ultra Special Editions" of the Original Trilogy and then Special Editiosn for the Prequels. -
Basara's singing is at first silly until he's so obstinate about it, especially when it came to selecting Mylene for Sound Force. It WAS interesting that even Basara resorted to force, by choice, probably 10 episodes before that. When Mylene, Kinryu, Gigil, Gamlin, Max, Sivil, and finally Geperenich all eventually end up first listening and then singing Basara's song, it was quite serious to the story, if not moving (as much as a cartoon is capable of anyways).

Just #2. Whoever designed that needs to be dragged butt nekkid through broken glass. Though I think if they had used a side fastener ala the hip armor (obviously thinner) it's easily solved. Hell, even scotch tape does it. Chunky Monkey articulation is part of the design IMO (despite anime magic). Logically consider it. GBP turns the VF-1 into a Destroid.

W00t. I like my 1/48's.... but the backpack hinge coupled with the high price means I don't really enjoy the nice features except as high end display pieces rather than toys. The 1/60's are much better sized for whooshing around the house and making gunshot noises IMO. The more affordable pricing makes means I have squadrons of them in various states of transformation that the 1/48 sizes don't permit (at least not without devoting a whole room to 'em).
-
Ooooh boy. Yeah it was. It sucks. Doesn't transform. Proportions are all screwed up.

A Star Wars Tv series after Eps. III?
Uxi replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm sick of Rebel vs Empire. Jedi are where SW is at. Go to Tales of the Jedi or Kngihts of the Old Republic era stuff where they can have lots of Jedi without worrying about continuity... or go further in the future. I still think Lucas will want to come back to SW in maybe 5-10 years or so and have episodes VII, VIII, and IX... or at least am hoping. Plus a New Special Edition and Prequal Special Edition to further rape some childhoods. -
Finished the rest of the trilogy and didn't notice any encoding problems through them. Was witching back and forth from commentary on a bunch of it, so might have missed some audio glitches, but everything seemed great to me. The worst part about the Hayden Christensen in place of Sebastian Shaw bit is the execution IMO. The former doesn't exchange eye-contact with Obi-wan like the latter, and he doesn't seem to be looking in the right direction. And his expression is just kinda weird. But yeah, aside from my instinctive dislike of this switch, I am interested in seeing where RotS actually goes with this...

Hasbro is pissed! Copyright infringment?

Some of them are downright unintelligible (or just plain unfunny) while others are hilarious. Unfortunatley the former outnumber the latter. -
Well now Hurin is finally "getting it" and making sense for SW... But seriously, I haven't noticed any encoding problems, either. Only have done the specials disc and ANH, switching from commentary back to the 5.1EX mix. One detail I've been pleasantly surprised is the amount of detail on the Star Destroyer hull, for example. Looks great! The green tint to Luke's (Anakin's) Saber is kinda weird, though, for example.

I'm not going to quibble with you again about it, but doesn't seem like such a bad decision to me. And the bottom line ($$$) doesn't seem to show it, either. I wouldn't mind if Lucas decided to provide those with the raped childhoods their dream (though I'd wager it would cost him far more money than he'd make - it's only the extremely hard headed who are boycotting this DVD release or the new movies, after all). I won't get into "artistic integrity" over a popcorn flick like this (even though I usually sneer at the concept almost everywhere else it's applied, as well), but I do respect Lucas' sticking to the last release of the films in their original state with the THX release. Just FTR, I thought I'd add that I REALLY don't like the Hayden Christensen ghost replacing Sebastian Shaw, but I am definately interested in seeing where Episode III goes with this.
-
That's about where I am on it. I do get thorougly amused by the indignant sense of entitlement that some people have towards a DVD issued with the cut they would like.
-
Only hint to that so far is that you hear Qui-Gon's voice when Anakin goes ape-poo on the Tuskens after his mother died...
