Yep you're right then. Sorry. Was hoping I had discovered the key to the problem. What about that "fan jet" that Minmay won? It had tandem cockpit but they also opened aft? I wonder what I saw that made me think forward... Joint Strike Fighter? GI Joe Dragonfly? Cursed old brain cells.
-
Didn't the Fan Racer canopy open FORWARD (hinged at the front of the cockpit)? Nice job... Just thought it opened the other way.

I'm looking at my 1/55 customs and I have a decision to make. Does it look better to have the shoulders down so they're below the wing or up above? The only way to do it without messing up the view of the toy in Battroid mode is to shave the intake blister. I have a test fit installed but I cannot make up my mind which I like better. MOD IS THE VALK'S RIGHT (OUR LEFT). STOCK IS VALK'S LEFT (OUR RIGHT). My green/blue 1/55 (see signature) in Super Armor looks absolutely kick ass with the shoulders and intake blisters unmodified. The downside to modifying the intake is you can't angle the shoulders up any more. I hope this question makes sense.

Look for non-yellowing matte or dull at your crafts store. For glossy stuff Rustoleum is hard to beat.

Gracias, amigo. I overdid even the model in the link I posted but...........the 1/55 makes subtle lines hard just by the way it is made.......................... MT u offer sage advice. Always glad to hear from you. God bless, brother.

Take a look at this: http://robotech-aod.com/images/ValkToys/Ha...lur-Fighter.jpg What you want to do is use very subtle "departures" from the base color scheme. So if you are using Ghost Gray add a few drops of black or a few drops of a darker color to slightly darken it and "trace" the panel lines with that or make streaks in random places. This shows the subtle touchups that often happen in the field, particularly on carrier-based planes. You don't want the panel lines to be so stark that they overwhelm the model. You want them subtle. This is why pencils are actually very good. You can do them darker or lighter depending on how much pressure you use, etc. Water based paints are great for this.

I use Rustoleum for almost everything. Great stuff.

You can do amazing things with a pencil and a "thumb smear" on a custom. I've spent more than a decade around jets. Less is more. Most people *WAY* overdo weathering. LESS IS MORE.

I call bullsh*t on this one. What got most people in the West into Macross was ROBOTECH, not Jetfire. Good grief. The only reason I even *WANTED* a Jetfire toy was because it was a Valkryie from ROBOTECH.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

A Bandai with swivel thigh mod and tapered swing bars is every bit as good as a 1/48 to get your Transformation Jones on with... Just saying.

I will try that sometime. Nice work. I love it. How do u do that??? Sooo cool. Need to learn that trick... I saw someone make their Valks look like paintings with space baclgrounds. Wish I could do that next.

I've done it before with grass. Just wanting to make it look blurred. Like this picture here: http://robotech-aod.com/images/ValkToys/Ha...lur-Fighter.jpg BIGF and Grapetang helped me before.

Some of you guys have helped me before with making my Valks look like they are flying. Anyone care to take a stab at this one? http://robotech-aod.com/images/ValkToys/Al...20Full%2002.jpg

Wow thats a TINY Valk!!! Nice job.

F-105 is better than the F-84 for this. Much closer fit. Still not perfect but closer.
-
Getting closer. Very Republic-like.

The doors are the wrong shape on the Zero... I can see the airplane in my mind but I can't get it out. I keep coming back to P-47s.... The nose gear is wrong for the A-4 also. Yes it is tall, but it has that elbow... The nose strut on the racer is straight.
-
Definitely not a P-39 for the mains. The mains look like a Republic airplane though for sure. Maybe a P-47 Thunderbolt in terms of door shape. If not a Jug then something very close. Those angled small main doors are very P-47ish to me... Hmmmm.....

SWEET! Well done!

1/55 Swivel Thigh Mod - BIC Pen Method (Streamlined)
Skull-1 replied to Skull-1's topic in The Workshop!
Wish I had more to update, but being homeless doesn't lend itself to customizing much. I have a vision in my head though....that soon....I will have my own place... And I will have a Valk work bench with parts drawers and shelves... It's gonna' be grand. But still a few months off, sadly. Working on 1/55s is so relaxing to me. I really miss doing it.
