1. Thanks JBO youre always there to bolster and/or point out the holes in my technical posts As far as the VT1 was concerned I was thinking as it has similar avionic properties to the VF1 I was rather asuming the same sort of thing would apply to it. The Gerwalk is the classic halfway house mode. Not very fast but still robotic enough to duke it out. The straddled leg posture you so often see the art work portray is probably the only way you`d get them to stay up in forward motion flight. One leg giving upwards lift while the other pushing it forward backed up with the folded tail sections small jet thrusters. I had completely missed the GBP`s lack of verniers. The lack of them would seriously hinder fast movement, that really just turns it into a manoverable missleboat. Still I love em all just the same. Even if you have to sometimes show the door to Newton and his laws
2. With the case of the Vf1 using the fast packs for anything other than space based flight is fairly pointtless. After all it is just a whole lot of extra push with a couple of misslie launchers on the backpack boosters and arms. In atmospheric flight this arrangement would create more drag than the boosters useage would counteract. The leg vernier thursters are fairly pointless in an atmosphere. The only situation the fastpack would be of use for a VF1 in an atmospheric battle environment would be for Battloid based combat. The arm based missiles would be useful but are limited in the carried ammo area.the backpack missiles fire in an upward direction so would not be the best choice. The backpack boosters would be of some use for powered jumps and assisted battloid based flight. But onsider the ammount of fuel that would be needed to make them affective over just plain PW Royce thermoneuclear turbines. I think it would rule them out. The beam cannon could be of affective use against ground troops from say an urban snippers point of view. In close up confined areas the whole fast pack application I agree would just get in the way. The best way not to get hit by the enemy is to show them the smallest profile posible. In DYRL Hikaru dumps the armor when going iside the SDF1 after the enemy Power Suits. Also in the VT1 he drops the fastpacks when he finds himself in an atmosphere after the bad hyperspace fold. The GBP is a whole new ball game designed to go to toe to toe with powered suit armor it is ideally suited to Zero G and space environments. It could also be deployed in a ground based encounter. Much in the same way as the destroids, only with a bit more manoverability, with the ability to pull the release lever and bugout in a hurry unlike the Destroids. Want an idea of how much drag a Fastpack would give you in the atmosphere. get your self a small box the size of a cornflakes box or shoe box. Get someone to drive you down the motorway/freeway at the speed limit or faster if you want try holding the box out of the window at arms length see if you can hold it steady.
3. I guess you are not LAZY enough ! A lazy ass like me always looking for easy way out. "Getting the result without doing the work" is my dream/goal....... 382330 Nah True lazy would be a model that buys itself and delivers itself and then builds and paints itself all while you just sit there waiting.
4. You might be better trying some apoxy resin it has a bit more give than superglue or filler and can be sanded and painted. I used some not to long ago to bo something similar with some instrument pods for the car. I used Devcon we use it at work to glue security systems onto projectors and plasma screens. My friend glued his car side trims on with it. This stuffs very strong.
5. Hell yeah A time machine. I`d buy up all the kits and original 1/55`s I could find, Sell them 3-4 years ago when prices were silly B.Y ( before Yamato) . Then buy all the rights. Then i could get what ever I wanted.. On a serious note I read an article about someone asking a computer manufacturer to make a custom graphics card for him. Basically he wanted this card with a yellow P.C.B instead of the normal green one. The company said it would do It but he`d have to buy a minimum run to make it worth the bother. This card was the lastest and most expensive one they did and it would work out a few hundred more than the normal retail card but he`d buy a lot of 10. My long winded point is if you badly want something has anyone considered aproaching Yamato and asking about a similar deal for a Vf1 or such. If there was enough people at M.W who all wanted a particular colour scheme etc It could be in theory possible. It may be more than a run of 10 but If everyone agreed on one design, and stumped up the cash. We may have to aproach the other macross forums or e/retailers to get more interest, if the production run was into the 100`s. Provided we asked them to do just a custom paint and box job we would not be costing them the Y1000`s in masters design etc because that has already been done. they would after all just be getting more milage out of a known product. At the end of the day money talks. What could be better than a 1/48 Yammie with a MW inspired colour scheme and box etc. Dont shoot me down if this idea has been brought up before, just point it out for the sake of the others who will undoubtably ask the same question sooner or later .
6. Hey everyone has forgotten the VF17. The seccond most used Valk in the whole of M7 after the Vf11 ( im not counting Basara in his Fire VF) The only company to try doing these was Bandai and they are not exactly great. All the other companies have just stuck to making models. Wave have only done excellent 1/72 and 1/100 Battloid kits but not Fighters or Gerwalks. I`d buy one and Im surea lot of the non M7 haters out there would also. Maybe oneday Hmmmmmmm!!
7. DYRL Valkyries 1/48 series VF-1S Fokker 001 1/48 Super and Strike parts 001 Boy do I feel like the poor cousin. I do have a 1/60 DYRL Hikaru VF1-J with fast packs, but your not counting them. I`ll do my best to increase this number in Japan in a couple of weeks.
8. Simple obvious and cheap idea. How come I didnt think of it ?
9. That's because it's the Miyatake book, not Kawamori. ISBN4-89601-629-7 381823 OPPS!! Thanks Boxer. I bought mine on eBay from Toycup try this link Perfectmemory and this one for the Kawamori book ( the first one) Designworks They are selling for less than I payed
10. There isnt an actual Tamiya colour for that but you can use XF-18 Medium Blue mixed with XF-50 Fieldblue and a slight dash X-10 Gun metal ( works for me ) I do it by eye but Im sure you could get more scientific about it with exact measurements. I tend to mix it up in a large ammount. Im paranoid about running out mid job.
11. To bring a StarTrekisum ( im not sure thats actually a word) The klingon way to being a captain is to kill your predessor. Sure the Transformers tv series was there as a way to sell products. Think of them as just 20 minute adverts. It worked as they were best selling toy in the U.K for 3 years. If I remember they were knocked off the top by another Hasbro/Takara line.
12. The ISBN fo the Design works with the VF1-J on the front is ISBN4-89601-512-6 The other one is the Macross and Orgus design works. If I remember correctly it has the SDF1 on the front. I havent found that one yet. Im Sure that Graham has this so he will be able to tell you the ISBN # There is another book you might want to consider. Macross Perfect Memory. This is like the design works but with a breakdown and loads of stills from the series, its an essential purchase I think.
13. I too remember there was a thread on this. I cant find it eaither. The only problems I have had with humidity have been with Gloss coats especially acrylics which can go milky when theres too much damp arround

1/55's revisited

Yes I haver noticed an increase in the general prices for 1/55`s and related spares on eBay. Time was when I could get a basket case Jetfire for less money than it would cost to post it. I am currently undergoing a large mod on a bootleg when finished it will be a battloid with more posability and more detail. I am going to post pictures when I have more porgress. I will probably start a new thread for it. This is an ongoing project and when I get back from Japan with some more supplies I can kick it into high gear. Think posability of a Hasegawa kit and more anime acurate, and you wont be far from where Im headed.
15. With or without I dont mind but my collection of VF-1`s are mixed. Every collection of VF1`s should have examples of each afterall they are a classic. The VF17 looks cool with the fastpacks on in all modes, unfortuanately you cant really get than many kits/toys that include them.
16. If it cusses you or pulls a knife on you then its bad. sorry couldnt resist. I `ll let mike answer this as his answer will be far more technical than mine

1/55's revisited

Yup lets keep all the 1/55 topics alive
18. I work in the industry and you can get frameless lcd pannels bolt them together and you end up with a large almost seemless image ( providing you matrix it) basically this is the sort of thing we use on large stages like for concerts or large expo`s. Like everything in the industry thought these frameless screens can get pricey. I have in the past seen someone make a smaller one using 4 screens which were normal retail lcd computer screens. He removed from the cases and put them on a custom made frame and added his own suround edge and stand. probably cost him less than half what a pro kit would cost.

Joons 1/55 Valks

I have a green one. They do sometimes go for quite a lot of money. I have seen them go for $70 and as low as $10 you cant alway say it will sell for X$ or y$. in the U.K they seen to go for more. Just an idea when searching on eBay make sure your search worlwide as you sometings miss stuff otherwise. Most of my 1/55`s have come from the U.S.A. Jetfires are usually cheaper int he U.S.A for soem unknown reason I payed about $20 for my green Joons
20. Matrix video walls are nothing new, but doing that sort of thing with a computer game well it beats big screen baseball or football/scoccer. I`ll bet you can get a good res for DTP too.
21. You didn't know that he did the mechanical designs for that? I can't wait to get my copy. That will definitely be the first book that I buy when I get to Japan next week! 380808 How about posting where you buy/bought it so that others who are going to Japan soon (hint hint me) can just cut to the chase and go and get one. Pictures of shops usually help too.
22. Yeah good point Athough ours is dry it can get hot. I mostly only use it to store Books and boxes. All my good stuff gets put in sealed plastic containers. I guess the monster would have to go in the Cupboard under the stairs.
23. I was 15 when I saw it at the cinema. I remember one mother had to take her kid out as he cried so much. Lots of kids cried. I got to admit I did a few tears too. My friends and I were totally shocked when he died. We were still getting over the death of Ironhide and his brother Rachet and everyone else in the shuttle. Still kinda brings a tear to my eyes now. Back then my friends and I had all been introduced to Transformers Gobots and Robotech/Macross all at the same time (like most kids in the U.K) so transforming Mecha was huge in the U.K and to kill of so many key Heros was a brave move.
24. That is probably the best Robotech ( notice I wrote it correct for a change) anaolgy I have ever seen. It`s true most of us here cut our Mecha Teeth on Robotech. But now that I have seen all the true Macross etc it is nothing but nostalgic for me when I get out the Rowboatheck dvds. I hope that the Shadow Chronicles will hopefully bring new audiences to Macross and also then kick start someone into making more Macross series. After all Zero was like 3 years ago, we want more.....
