I like Basara's new look . -
Here it is. ebay Release is Jan 2006. Question is, will it have a loose airbrake, crooked skulls, or both?? Might have to wait till the verdict's out on this and the VF-0S before giving more of my $$ to Yamato.

Episodes 28-36 are the only reason my wife shows any support for my Macross obsession. When i pulled out my 1/48 VF-1S for the first time, she said, "Hey isn't that's Roy Focker's Valkyrie? Cool..."

Ok, that confirms some articles I've read ... and I'm all for it , too. -
Aircraft VS super thread!

Anybody have offical performance stats for the F-16A vs. the Su-30MKI? I always thought that the F-16 was unmatched in instantaneous turn rate (or was this the hornet?), and that the newer generation fighters like the Su-30MKI generally had better high-AOA capability. Also, weren't the Indian pilots using helmet-mounted targetting systems? I'm not discrediting the account, but it would be nice to know exact details of the exercise. It just seems strange for the F-16 to get spanked so badly, even given differences in pilot skill. -
Wow, I didn't realize that your right fin was crooked going the other direction. Mine is prob the same. That's okay, I just wont ever buy a DYRL 1A or a 2nd edition Roy to compare, and all will be good

I remember seeing prices slashed for both the Hikkie 1s and Max 1A, so it's likely they both sold relatively poorly (the Max selling the worst). I saw a Max 1A on the shelf of a local Anime store just 2 months ago, which had apparently been sitting there for a long time. Of course, once prices started skyrocketting, someone nabbed it for $199.

1/55 Yamato VF for $20 + $20 shipping??? Pics of a 1/48 with a 1/60 box... but ad says YAMATO 1/55? Any guesses at what it really is?
-
I like the choice in blue, seems more authentic than the yamato 1/48 blue, but not quite as ghastly as the 1/60 blue. Great tutorial for us out-of-practice modelers. Is Max hiding a crooked tailfin skull?

Short leg version is perfect, except as said before, the feet may be a bit big.

What Happened To Misa Hayase And 'rick'?
ghostryder replied to Aurora-7's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'd like to think of it as an unknown new beginning. If they were investigating a transmission, it could have been from another world in a parallel/alternate universe. Real physicists please fell free to jump in and ruin this warm and fuzzy ending if it is implausible. -

I did some research for a layman's explanation for all this black hole business. In a nutshell, the black hole in the center of the galaxy is likely super-massive and rotating, which means two things that bode well for our Megaroad crew: they need not be ripped apart if they got sucked in, and they may have found an alternate/negative universe near the center, or at worse, remained trapped living in the black hole until their supplies ran out. It's only theory... I'd love to hear other theories that don't involve Misa and Hikaru being juliened in a cosmic death... -

I ain't no physicist, but wouldn't you be able to escape the pull of the black hole if you were traveling faster than the speed of light (is that even possible for anything with mass?)? I never understood how fast a ship was travelling under a "space fold", or if it was strictly creating a literal fold in the fabric of space to facilitate a jump. I'm also not sure if the Megroad had fold capability - if it did, it seems they could have folded before getting crushed. It's not like it would be a teeny black hole that snuck up on them, there would have been obvious signs- like radiation emissions and a total void for light years. Silly to think they would willingly travel towards the center of the galaxy knowing certain doom may lurk therein - afterall, they were primarily a colonization vessel, not a research vessel. -

I used an 0.3mm (not 0.5) mechanical pencil with H lead for the white parts, and Pigma Micron black pen for the fastpacks. -

One more (Roy about 6 seconds before his first fastpack-induced tumble - nothing broken!)... -

Roy letting it hang out... ... and tucked in for speed (if I never see another "NO STEP" sticker again, it would be too soon) -
I've never used waterslide decals or clearcoated a transforming toy (others can add their input for this), but... If you're gonna play with it - and I imagine you'd want to if it's your only 1/48 - why not pen or pencil panel lines and use Anasazi's or Takatoy's stickers? I've had good results with Pigma black micron pens for panel lines on darker plastic, and a 0.3mm pencil for white plastic. The Takatoy stickers I used on my 1/48 Roy are great, and I don't have to worry about a lacquer coat yellowing, chipping, or getting dirty from handling. If you're only gonna display, options are wide open for finishing, and I'll let other chime in on that. Sorry for the piss-poor night pics (taken when kids were asleep), but here's an example of Pigma pen lines on fastpacks and a 0.3mm pencil on white plastic. Takatoy stickers throughout. I imagine a Pigma pen would work well for Millia's ride. (updated with some better shots) pigma on fastpacks 0.3mm pencil on fighter 0.3mm pencil on fighter2

Wow. Never been a fan of the 1D, but that actually makes the 1D look good. Great job, and awsome kit.

Funny, magnets don't stick to the diecast on my bandai reissue. Magnets shouldn't stick to zinc. If you can get your hands on a Toynami, the magnets definitely stick due to opposing magnets, not to the zinc. I guess what bugged me was the stealth-like angles on the wings and canopy edge, but yet the intake/leg corners are right angles and blocky- much blockier than the VF-1. It would have been cool if they were angled in a bit, a la the F/A-22. I guess the blockiness helps hide the arms in fighter mode, which the 1/48 VF-1 fails miserably at. I will say that although chunkier than lineart, I still think it looks great. And I don't think the head sticks out any more than the 1/48 VF-1S. It's too bad my wife is smart enough to know the diff between a VF-1 and VF-0, if a new toy were to magically appear on the shelf in place of the 1/48. I should stop talking valks in front of her .
-
Okay, I've been avoiding commenting on the VF-0 design because I've always found its mish-mash of stealthy/non-stealthy features a little strange, and I couldn't get over the funky Flogger wings. I've also been in denial as to not plunk down another couple of C bills on a toy... But I've got to say that is a beautiful design. That fighter belly shot clinches it - how awsome is that smooth transition from the tucked arms into the backpack? And the tailhook! The only thing that would have been better would be flush missile hardpoints tucked between the legs, a la F-14s. I just smoothed over the purchase of a 1/48 on the homefront - now this? Damnitall!
-
Macross Compendium: VF-1 Both the compendium and Yamato show that the VF-1 has 4 wing hardpoints (2 per wing), and that RMS-1 missiles are paired on the outboard hardpoints and carried singly on the inboard. But, I recall seeing completed model kits (ClubM, Hasegawa) with 3 nukes on each wing carried on separate hardpoints. This is also consistent with the series. Which is correct, or is this a distinction between Valks in the series and DYRL?
-
Well... honestly since this is my one and only 1/48, I WILL play with it, godammit. Besides, the crooked skull doesn't bother me much anymore after panel lining and applying Takatoy stickers. It's just sweet looking . Now, onto paneling and stickering my fastpacks. Ignorance is bliss...

I hated cabbage patch kids, so for me it was to piss off the likes of my sister and anyone else who owned them. The chewing gum was also a deadly weapon if you threw it at someone... or ate it.
