Well, you'll need to fatten up the pilot with some putty . Come to think of it, the standard issue yamato figure is on the small size, definitely more of a Hikaru or Max. Doubt a properly scaled Roy would fit.

Actually, the Sail Blue I used it right between the 1/60 blue and the fastpack sticker blue in darkness and hue. I think it's the picture flash that makes it appear more bright. It's definitely darker than the Tamiya French Blue (checked hobby store). Either works i think, it dpends on which screenshot you're trying to match .

Yeah, that's exactly what I intend to take a pic of, once the paint has cured for a week (it's still tacky as I write this). Here's another fighter shot showing how cool the black jolly rogers looks w/ the blue trim. edit: friggin' photobucket won't shrink photo, sorry.

Your little tutorial inspired me to do a Roy-to-Max of my own. I used Rustoleum for Plastic Sail Blue, and left the heatshield black .

1983-85 JCPenny's catalog pages Scroll down and see they even had a scorpion watch (ignore the pajama pages). I recall having one that tansformed into an F-15 . Looking at these old catalog pages makes me all warm and fuzzy - as cheesy as some of the toys were, this truly was the golden age of transforming toys.

I was more concerned about how the cyclone compartment sticks out so much in fighter mode - the landing gear touching is just another issue that I've heard from everyone on the board. Kevin is selling these relatively cheap, so I was curious if mods were possible. The overall sculpt is pretty good, the only things that bug me are the cyclone compartment sticking out, slightly long feet, and upturned nose. Some things a Dremel, putty, and paint can fix (maybe)..

I was was watching my friend's Southern Cross DVDs recently (yeah, I know), and noticed the score from most of the fight scenes was a rip-off of the Police's Synchronicity II. Pretty Cool , I also got into the Police as a kid, since my older sister had all their stuff.

Well, we'll let you know when they arrive in February. AFAIK, the box is the same but I have no idea if it's gonna be comparable to the 1st release Hikaru, or it will be more like the latest Roy 1/48 release (pretty darn good release except for crooked skulls). The 1st edition 1S Hikaru had a gummy pilot, pretty good QC, but a loose airbrake.

I was stoked to get Contraband being a big former GN'R and STP fan, but the combo doesn't quite work - I think Scott's voice can't hang with double-hummer ax attack (gets drowned out), and a lot songs would realy benefit from someone like Axl wailing on vocals. And yes, I feel old too

Yay! Have you heard any of A-Ha's new stuff, or any of their not-well-known old songs like "I've been Losing You" or "The Swing of Things" or "Stay on These Roads"? Some people think they are a one-hit-wonder, but they have a lot of great songs. And they're HUGE in Norway. 328027 Wow, when I first got into pop music as a kid, Scoundrel Days was my favorite tape. Must have played the crap out of it on my little tape recorder. I should get the CD... I've since gone through many phases (R&B, speed metal, 60s/70s rock), but am currently reliving my hair metal youth (I have Steve Vai, Queensryche, Ratt, etc. on rotation in my car). Also enjoy some newer stuff (Franz Ferdinand, Killers, Strokes). Anyone in SF area going to the Anthrax concert this Friday? Original lineup is back! Still debating on if I'm going, need to hit the gym to limber up for the mosh pit.

Whoa, I dunno if taking a brillo pad to shiny chunky plastic would be a good idea, unless you plan on deglossing the whole valk.

I thought you sold it! Sorry, it was the best chest shot I could find.

Macross - Proper Engrish Pronunciations
ghostryder replied to ghostryder's topic in Movies and TV Series
Or so we all thought, until Yamato released the 1/48 Miria Fallyna Jenius VF-1J... Then the debate raged all over again... 361839 I prefer Mil F. Jenius. 361844 LOL 361846 Okay, took me a while -
Macross - Proper Engrish Pronunciations

Thanks,... but "Exsedol"? -
I'd get an Alpha if it were easy to recess that third tit-of-a-cyclone storage compartment. Is it plastic, and how dows the hatch open and close? Maybe there's a way to remove the door, take a dremel to the compartment to grind it down, and re-attach the door so it's at least on the same elevation as the crotch thuster in fighter mode. Then presto! Rear landing gear touch the ground! Pic attached for reference/convenience.

Word... the converse is also true: episodes that would have otherwise bored/irked me are saved by some of the best animation in the series (ie, Private Time and Romanesque - I'm a Misa fan). Back on topic, Global Report blew

Maybe a noob ?, but... What are the original proper pronunciations of the following words? I know mispronunciation of "L" sounds to "R" sound is not uncommon in Japanese-Engrish translations: Battroid (Battloid?) Exedol (Exedor?) Millia (Mirya?) Tlead (Tread?) (yes , I know this is Mospeada) There's probably more, but I'll leave it at that in case this is a dumbass noob question.

hahah.. i hope you're not wishing that a cute girl is going to come up to you and say "wow. your massive Macross collection is sooo hooott... what's your name?" cuz that's pretty sad. 361491 Well, I have neither 88 valks nor a 350Z... so I'm jealous of both of you mofos . To put things in perspective, most of my money goes to my mortgage and my 2 kids (2 months and 2.5 yrs).

I think it does, but not so much that it's noticable since the ABS has a dull finish. It probably rubs off the original surface, but leaves an equally dull luster. This is a great tip, but gee, with all the geeks on this board (myself included), you'd think there was a chemist or plastics expert who would be able to prescribe a paint thinner/remover that does not affect the integrety of ABS, and also whatever the hell the heatshield is made of.

Newbie ANSWERS thread!

You could go with either kites or Jolly Rogers. In DYRL, right before the final battle you see CFs being fitted with fastpacks, each having markings of their respective squadron (they never showed a skull fastpack w/ a CF, but there was one with some green arrow thingies). I assume CFs in the skull squad had black Jolly Rogers as a default. Can there be a puppy-poo tan skull?? Either way (kite or skull), they would look okay with the Skull 001. -
... at least it will be perfectly camoflaged in the sky looking from the ground, and in a forest looking from above Those MPCs hide the head in fighter mode even less than the chunkies, that's why all their head are so tiny. I'd stick with using chunkies for custom jobs, since chunky or 1/48 recast heads look okay on them. You could also scavange a 1/72 model head and try that on an MPC, but I've never tried that.

so... what are you going to do with 88 1/48 scale Valks? you should make a stop motion movie or something. you could have bought a new car with that money. 361005 I'd like to compare the appreciation/depreciation of 88 1/48 valks compared to a $10K car in about 5 to 10 years.

Agree, since they won't be able to milk the mold like they did with the VF-1, it should cost more if they want to maintain their current profit margin. In a nutshell - buy what you want and can afford and be happy. We are, afterall, compensating for deprived childhoods, aren't we??

Here you go - standard vermillion team scheme with dark green... From what I remember, it is either from Good-bye Girl or Virgin Road.
