Dammit, I caved and bought another. Just love both B and F modes, gotta have at least 1 of each to play with. I was going to try holding out for the inevitable VF-1S release, but this guy has rekindled my love of the classic Vermillion VF-1J deco, like my very first Joons Chunky.
-
Mine has that issue also. If you look on the Amazon Japan reviews, there are some pics of a someone else's with the same problem. It may be an issue of one of the actual wings being slightly warped, vs something at the wing pivot point.

Given the trend of OS 3rd party transformers, I wonder what the likelihood is of another company KOing the Bandai 1/48 at a larger scale (1/24 or 1/32?) with some of these listed "ultimate VF-1" improvements.
-
There is one thing Bandai got sized correctly... "Dude... you're just trying too hard!" The Yamato has Gundam fixed pose hands, FYI.
-
Yes, it's the Robot Hero OS Starscream (about 1/45 scale). They are a bit more matched in size in robot mode. If Starscream were closer to 1/48, they'd see eye-to-eye.

I see the leg connection as a good and bad thing. I've been just removing the legs for transformation, to avoid stress on the swing bar hinges since the legs are so heavy. It does allow for the waist articulation, but if you don't use that feature, I'd just tape or glue it closed and be done with it.
-
Yup, it's the Robot Hero OS MP-11 (roughly 1/45), I painted it in toy colors. I think the Tanaka OS KO is closer to 1/48.

Pics of 2 iconic 80s aviation mecha, and a reminder of how small the VF-1 really was. Hikaru looks like a 6 yr-old cosplaying at an air show.
-
The gummy pilot is squished in as far as it can (legs completely crunched), and I still can't close the canopy
-
I don't have the mad skills to panel line and wash like others on this thread, so I cheat with a 0.3mm pencil . It's a very subtle effect, but works for me.

When you go through the purchase and set up shipping to the US, it adds about $6 for shipping... mine got here in less than 3 days, which blew my mind.
-
That's cool and all, but I'd love to see someone pull off integrated side covers. Maybe some photo-etched metal parts would be thin enough to fit.
-
Thanks, I'll take a look! Yeah, my example doesn't have any issues with arms tabbing either. I think someone posted earlier to only slide the arms back enough to align the backplate tabs with the arms holes (don't lock the shoulder hinges into the detent), and everything should generally be fine. It's not a click lock, but holds well once the legs are tabbed in place.

Where's the best place to get a set of VF-1 1/48 decals or stickers for the missing warning symbols? I used to use Takatoys back in the day, but I think he only makes 1/60 sets now? After playing around with this all day, I can say the only issues I have are the loose ventral fins and nosecone. One of my wing flaps was bowed a bit down in the middle, but I was able to straighten it out with hot water. Now my big problem is I love battroid and fighter mode equally... must... resist... buying... another... (I'm determined to wait for Focker 1S).
-
I don't have a TV 1/48 pilot to try, but surely that giant salami of a control stick in the DX would interfere with the molded-on stick on the Yamato pilot. I will also add that there is a very light blue tint to the canopy, it's just not very noticeable.

Less than 3 days to ship from Amazon Japan! Until I have time to transform, here's an old vs. new jet shot.

I've been out of valk collecting for quite some time (I've whittled down the collection to a 1/60 VF-1S Focker and a 1/48 VF-1A Low Vis). This one looks too good to pass up, and frankly I haven't had a Vermilion VF-1J since my very first Joons 1/55 Chunky back int the day.

Sub-Lieutenant?

1/48+fp's, 1/60+fp's, 1/72, 1/2k, 1/3k,1/100 and now 1/144

Some old school 1/48 Low Vis love - with 2 freshly painted heads for variety: -
Hmmm, the rear of the cab (the legs) seem really thick, much thicker than MP-01 or any other G1-inspired prime. They also seem to have shortened the height of the trailer quite a bit to fit over those legs. Doesn't look right from the side of the truck. Robot mode is very nice, will be waiting for the state-side release sans trailer.

Just got my Gamlin VF-22S in 5 days flat Fedex. What a great looking design, much nicer in person! I caved and just ordered the Max VF-22S before the sale ends.
-
I wasa gonna say the same thing- interesting concept, but the gray is still way too dark.
-
They should include a bunch of blast holes in the fuselage and a pair of clipped wings with a weathered Max 1S... and how about an equally messed up Q-Rau and Milia??

I think it needs to be metal to withstand the sliding nose action, much like the VF-0. But I agree on the paint chipping concern, plus uneven discoloration over time.
