  1. If you are only getting 1 (many of us buy more even after swearing that they will only buy 1), get a 1/48 VF-1S, Roy type or Hikaru type. You also will want Fastpacks. 1/48s are durable, easy to transform, and the arms won't fall apart like with the 1/60 VF-0. Like I said, be prepared for eventually getting more than 1
  2. The first fight seen in DYRL clearly shows the slits. I guess SK overslept the day Yamato was supposed to show him the protoype 1/48 feet. After reading all this, I tend to agree that reaction engines would not need afterburners or burner rings. I mean, the reaction occurs in one chamber, and then is expelled out of the exhaust. Assuming that OT can deal with the heat of a fusion reaction, why would there be a need for two stages of reaction, or bypass air/plasma? Even if there was bypass air/plasma, the only way to create additonal thust in space would be another fusion stage with addtional reaction mass added.
  3. Is this official TV lineart? It shows turbines.
  4. So why do Yammie VF-1's have round turbines? I remember those rectangular exhaust ports in the series, and yet SK was supposed to have approved the 1/48. Which is lineart correct?\ Not that it means anything, but all the Toynamis have rectangular ports.
  5. A myriad of leftovers - 311 numbers from the Yamato 0A set, squad markings from Takatoys original low-vis set, warning markings from both sets, and I brush painted over the red Takatoy nose kites and the red tampo-printed kite on the wing.
  6. new fighter mode pics added at bottom...
  7. Remember, this is what we would get - either lines that are too thick and dark, or paint applied unevenly and everywhere. Those 1/72s had shiny plastic that was forgiving on factory-applied panel lines. I'm not sure how successful Yamato would be applying subtle panel lining on the current dull & textured ABS used for 1/48s and 1/60s. VF-11B Low-Vis
  8. Yes, I'm aware of the green valks, but I was doing a fictional scheme like DND's storm shadow 1/48. Any fan-created fictional logos/shields would be cool, otherwise I may adopt something from one of the Elmendorf AFB F-15 fighter squads.
  9. Is there an official Alaska Base shield or graphic? I'm working on a custom storm trooper-esque 1/48 paint scheme and thought something like this would look cool on the the tailfins and heatshield.
  10. ... or another reason for Yamato to jack up prices? I will say that paint application quality is something that's been pretty consistent with most Yamato releases, so I wouldn't expect QC issues.
  11. Hmmm... totally believable for fighters that never saw real combat until the events of M0 . Great review as usual, Graham. The VF-0A is also my fav, broken shoulder and all.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it! If it does break and you want to try epoxy, go to an automotive store - they should have different brands of 2-part epoxies for plastic/soft plastic.

I just wanted to reiterate that the plastic epoxy I used (shown here) seems to be working well, in case you guys have tried Krazy glue and it failed. I transformed it a couple of times and all looks secure. An added bonus is that the fixed shoulder is tighter than the shoulder that's not broken.

Graham, considering how rough you are transforming these things, I find that hard to believe . Let us know how the 0A shoulders fare after the transformation video...

    VF-0A poll

What I meant was the location of the stripes and darker accents are very similar (but not identical) between the anime and the Yamato CF. The CG images you posted did not have any stripes at all. I do agree that the beige is better. But back OT... Yammie CF > Yammie Shin, VF chest stripes are overdone, and the white stripes looks weird on the gray scheme. Ditto, I would buy a proper beige CF before I buy the Shin pack.

Also, here's the "proper" CF from the screencap and the 1/72 Hasegawa, which are similar to the Yamato - just different hues all around:

    VF-0A poll

I never noticed, but it looks like the Shin 0A head is painted a lighter gray around the side/jaw area... and the hands are a lighter gray.
  20. Just got mine! I agree, the exterior box is simple and classy (except for the big Harmony Gold logo on top ). The inner case covers (front and back) look just like the old Animeigo ones shown here. My only gripe is that there's a tiny 2-3 mm tear at the top front of the individual case slip-in covers for discs 1-3. And yes, the inner plastic of the DVDs look very shoddy. I think I'll take all the discs out and store them in a soft sleeve case.

My 0A's shoulders were never too tight, and I always handled it like a virgin during the F mode to G/B mode transformation. Still, the shoulder broke. Since I've fixed it with epoxy, I've left it in fighter mode, which looks the best anyways . Yamato just made the tolerences too tight around the shoulder/intake/swingbar area for stress-free transformation.
  22. Hey, the Fire Valk battroid isn't totally bad, if not for the tiny head. However, all Bandai M7 valks are super-deformed . What do we expect, you can get about 15 VF-19 bootlegs for the price of one YF-19.
  23. I got an e-mail confirmation about an hour later, but I ordered on a weekday. Hopefully, you get a confirmation today.
  24. Righto, it seems like the Max/Milia Supers had the most perceived problems with overspray, just because of the light paint and dark plastic. Nora's scheme, if painted, could be troublesome. I'd prefer Tampo and live witht the missing color in the panel lines.
  25. To me, there's a huge difference between what's mechanically feasiblle in a toy vs. a full-sized mecha. Limitations in materials, manufacturing, and scale will determine what can be done with a toy in terms of matching lineart - I can accept that fact and would rather have accuracy at the expense of "golly-gee" perfect transformation, but with serious aesthetic compromises. For example, I would have also preferred that the 1/48 VF-1 had an improved removable leg system (locking and sturdy, not like the 1/60) to eliminate the low-hanging arms in fighter mode, but that's just me. Removable landing gear is even less of a big deal for me, fighters are best displayed gear-up anyways. An added benefit of removable gear is you won't have to rip your nails off or get out the tweezers to flip the gear out. I straddle the line between Toy Geek and Model Geek, so I'm probably in the minority. EDIT: I will say that the gullet on the YF-19 is now OK with me. I haven't seen a consistent lineart representation that confirms or denies if there's supposed to be a gullet or how big it is. The SV-51, on the other hand, is pretty much the same in every depiction I've seen, probably due to the "Lego" origins and the CG animation.
