Still on the fence if I even want to engage with this level of skulduggery with Bandai. I'll probably end up getting a set or two, but I'm worried that they will find a way to make me feel dumb for buying these.

Kind of unfortunate on the timing of the 1/72 scale. Two or three years ago I would have been very interested. It's a little late to market, now, though. I'm still interested in some of the 1/12 figures, especially Hikaru and Misa. I mean... Rick and Lisa...

This advice comes too late, but I suggest handling and transforming these things very close to another surface (table, floor, w/e). I usually transform mine sitting on carpeted floor, in case I drop it, it won't be damaged. It also generally makes it easier to find stuff that might fall off.

Anyone else a little concerned about build and plastic quality? Compare a yamato/arcadia vf-1 to say, a dx vf-31. I like the vf-31, I think it is a great toy with a great design, but it still feels a little wobbly and just slightly less... solid in terms of plastic and build quality compared to an arcadia vf-1. Every time I see these pics, it seems like it will have a "looser/weaker" feel in the hands. I know this is one of the ways Bandai cuts costs (not bad plastic quality, but not the level that Arcadia uses). I think these things matter, especially in the long term. I still think it will be a great toy, I'm just not convinced it will be strictly better than the Arcadia/yamato vf-1 in every single catagory.

I'm pretty sure it still has optional hands. And it will have a standard display stand (as well as the "special edition" one). And a gunpod and strap. And a gerwalk antenna... I think that's it. But yeah, box does seem a little large, even with that.

Neflix's live action Cowboy Bebop

As skeptical of this as I am, I gotta say I don't actually hate these character descriptions: http://www.thathashtagshow.com/2018/12/11/exclusive-netflix-cowboy-bebop-character-breakdowns-and-production-start-date/ At least they aren't "white-washing" things. And I sort of like the idea of mixed race/ethnicity characters, as it can be hard to really identify who is what (in a good way). Also, it's in the future and all that, so you would think there might be more "mixed" people in a more global future.- 303 replies

Is it time for another "collector vs scalper" showdown? On the MWF this time?

But... isn't it supposed to look like a "W?" As in "walkure?" Not that I'm a huge fan of walkure, but you kind of want your shameless brand sellout vehicle supporting cast to support what you're actually selling.

This is what I paid for mine (except from Manda). At that price, I'm not disappointed. Getting it into gerwalk is a pain, but just going fighter-> battroid (you can skip gerwalk) really isn't that bad. I have the lil'draken/missile set on the way, I'll give impressions of that when I get it. Be advised that while the valk is still available at a discount, the accessory pack is not. Also, it's my wife's favorite valk (appearance-wise, at least). So that's a bonus, I guess.

https://splashreport.com/cowboy-bebop-story-details/ JFC, a gun that shoots black holes. Never heard that one before. Why are they doing this? Oh yeah, money. But still, Cowboy Beebop (for better or worse) is one of my favorite animes after Macross, and I hate to see it bastardized like this. I'm going to give it a very skeptical chance when it comes out, but I'd be happier if they could just leave the original alone. Not everything needs a remake/reboot/sequel w/e the hell this is supposed to be. Come up with something halfway original for once, ffs. Edit: I should note I have no idea about the credibility of this "article." I don't know how or why the author should have access to any sort of info on the pilot. So take that for what you will.- 303 replies

I'm thinking the vf-1d will be fairly easily obtainable between now and shortly after release. But I'll have an extra one that I'll probably be looking to sell, if someone is desperate.
-
I'd say there is a decent chance there will be some available for not much more than pre-order prices soon after release. There also seems to be some info floating around suggesting they might do a re-issue sans the extra display stand, but I don't know that I'd count on that happening.
-
Thinking the same thing. Seeing the vf-4 being a little harder to get a few days after made me cautious with the the vf-1d. But I think the vf-4 was an exception, rather than the rule.

Got one at AmiAmi. Gotta love this hobby... back to bed.
-
Yeah, I think you're right. And going back and looking at the line art, I think it is supposed to have both shoulder lights.
-
Anyone else notice how one picture has the (correct) one shoulder light in battroid, and the other has two shoulder lights in battroid? Bandai loves their photoshop. Or maybe the pictures are from different stages of development.

Bandai's official website has the release date as December 29th. That personally seems like an odd date to me, but that's what it says. I kind of interpret it as "before the end of the year."
-
Same here. This isn't the first claim Ridden has made about having "insider" knowledge about the goings-on at toy companies (last time I remember was involving an Arcadia vf-0 ghost booster bundle). So he apparently knows at least 1 person at both of the major Macross toy manufacturers. I'm not saying he's wrong, or lying, but this is the internet. And unsubstantiated claims with no evidence whatsoever, beyond "I know a guy," should be treated as such. If some of these products start showing up, obviously the credibility of these claims goes up. Until then, take the appropriate sized grain of salt.

I'm not expecting Bandai to be generous with head/pilot swaps in a single purchase with this line (like they can be with the HMR line, sometimes). This is a new mold and they're going to get their money's worth. I think the way they are handling the accessories is a good indicator of where their head is at on this one. For me, in a perfect world I'd like to get the Hikaru VF-1J, then a TV VF-1S with super parts, then a VF-1A release of basically any variety (maybe CF). And that would do it for me in this line. But I don't know if we're going to get all that, and especially WHEN we would get all that.
-
Unfortunately, the news about the missiles isn't surprising. And with no mention of multiple releases, it might be worth doubling or tripling up now, or face serious mark ups on the secondary market later. On something that is probably overpriced to begin with. The hands situation is a little more confusing, as it seems like the VF-1J comes with optional hands already. Maybe future releases won't? Or maybe the stand alone hand package has a bunch of unique poses? Maybe they won't bother with selling just hands.
-
I was just thinking the other day that if HMR is going to only give us valks, we may as well get a VF-1D. Glad to see it is happening. I didn't expect the Minmay holding hand. HMR Virgin Road after this? With swappable VF-1A head maybe? I would rather they finish the destroids, though.

According to my records, NY had the PF version for 53,980¥ as a preorder. So the HLJ sale is the cheapest I've seen it, personally. If the box weren't so big, I'd honestly consider getting a second one.
-
Because, it probably wouldn't sell well. As you pointed out, DYRL is the more popular version of Macross in Japan, and even that version doesn't sell too well. The Arcadia reissue is still available at multiple online retailers. And that is the popular one, that goes on to be (essentially) the representation of the Macross going forward. We already have to subsidize the low production run of the DYRL SDF-1 with pretty high prices. I'd hate to see what a TV version would cost to be economically viable. It could easily reach into the $800 USD (shipped) range. And to be frank, while there is definitely a lot of nostalgia for the TV SDF-1, I think it is objectively kind of ugly. The design has not aged nearly as well as some of the other 80s Macross designs. Would I buy one? Maybe, depending on the price (but even the Arcadia reissue was a bit hard to justify, price-wise). I know a lot of people on these forums would buy one, but we all know we're not the target audience. Edit: For whatever it is worth, I know Mr. K briefly mentioned that he would like to do one, and he brought up having to get a license for it. So it could be a matter of the cost of the license being too high relative to the potential demand. But that's getting pretty far off into the realm of speculation

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
HardlyNever replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Is it safe to say we're not going to get an announcement about a new series this year? Or is there still some reasonable hope that we'll get some news? Is there a cut-off date, or is there a chance this is still going to happen until it turns 1/1/2019? -
This is my current fear with the line. As much as we enjoy the non-valks, they just haven't done well, so we are clearly in the minority (when compared to the greater macross/toy-buying market). So Bandai has basically zero incentive to give us the non-valk mechs we want. I personally wouldn't mind subsidizing a lower run of the destroids and enemy mechas by paying a bit more for them, and I'm sure several others here feel the same, but there isn't really a way to communicate that to Bandai. And I don't know if us paying an extra 10-15% more would be enough.
