Good luck all. Once more with feeling:

The JAN code for the TV Max is: 4573102567222 So 56722 seems to match with that? But they cut off the last digit for some reason? Anyhow, if you found the JAN code for the Hikaru release, you might be able to figure out the link ahead of time. Who knows how far in advance HLJ makes their pages, though. It could be just a few minutes, or a few hours. Using the JAN code @DYRL VF-1S gave I tried: https://hlj.com/dx-chogokin-vf-1s-valkyrie-hikaru-ichijo-use-bans55800 as well as: https://hlj.com/dx-chogokin-vf-1s-valkyrie-hikaru-ichijo-use-bans58008 Neither work. You can keep trying combinations, but I'm going to get some rest before madness.

Can't fault anyone for passing on this tonight. That fact that this is the state of things in 2019 is ridiculous, but that's I don't have a Hikaru VF-1S in any scale, so I'd like to grab this one. I want to get one of the 1S in this scale, so I figure if I try to get this and the Roy, I might get lucky and actually get one at PO price. If I get lucky tonight and get a Hikaru, I'll probably just pass on the Roy 1S. Like others, I think Bandai is making a mistake with how they are doing this. I would potentially collect the whole line if it we're so difficult to get at MSRP.

Nin-nin has their page up already: https://www.nin-nin-game.com/en/japanese-import-hobbies-toys-game-character/32302-macross-vf-1s-valkyrie-hikaru-ichijou-use-dx-chogokin-.html Can't order yet. Don't see a JAN code anywhere.

Pretty much this. I'm not expecting to get two. I'm not even expecting to get one at this point, unfortunately. But for us on the east coast, we have to get up at 3AM to even attempt it. You're not going to bother to do that if you don't think you at least have a chance at it. So I'm going in with two as a goal, and would be perfectly happy with one. I'll be disappointed if I get nothing, but unfortunately, not surprised.

I think most of us are of the mindset that we'll pre-order 2-3 "just in case." Pre-orders get canceled, there are QC issues, etc. Of course this only exacerbates the limited supply situation, but that's how it goes.

I'm hoping to be here for PO madness, but if not, here's some inspiration for you fellas (queue Fate's Arrow):
-
FWIW I started with "pre-order madness" around 2016. The 1/48 Max was the first time I got absolutely nothing. Every other time I got at least one of what I was after (and I was usually only after one). I'm hoping the Max was just a fluke that happens to resemble what the Frontier stuff was like, but that isn't the new (old?) normal. But I'm totally prepared to be wrong, and be let down again this time. It's a shame, because I really like the 1/48 line, but I don't know if I can stay with it if it is only available to a lucky few at MSRP.

Hype levels increasing. Wishful thinking here, but I'm hoping Bandai is doing a larger run of the Hikaru VF-1S than the TV Max VF-1A. My understanding is that it should be more popular, especially in Japan. And just maybe... the fact that the Max release hasn't hit the ridiculous prices the Hikaru VF-1J has, yet, means some of the scalpers will pass on this release. They're generally more about a quick turn-around, not a long-haul investment strategy. Basically, I'm hoping the Max VF-1A was a combination of low production run, combined with scalpers seeing the VF-1J prices and thinking there was easy money to be made. And that won't be as true this time... But who knows. Preemptive silver lining for anyone that doesn't get one: there is always the Roy VF-1S!

Yup, that's my thinking I normally have the delta valks together, but I know I'd need the extra space in a few months.

New house, new(ish) set-up. SDFM: DYRL and beyond: All together: Still a work in progress. Want to add some backgrounds, hide the cords a little more, but it will do for now.

Also got the NY notification. Also will be taking SAL shipping.

It definitely could be a bad photoshop job. But I noticed nothing really locks the back plate in place on the DX 1/48, even in fighter mode (it can only go so far, but there is definitely room for it to move). So it may have fell down, and they didn't correct it, and took a picture of it. Or worse, there is something about the super pack that requires it being recessed like that.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking the pre-order for this might be June 3rd, which is also my son's expected due date... But either of those things are open to change.
-
The web exclusives only ship to Japanese addresses. So you need either a proxy address/service, or just buy from one of the usual online retailers, with an associated middle-man mark up (that's what I do). The web exclusives usually have much larger pre-order windows (weeks, even months sometimes). To be clear, I think only the super/strike parts are web exclusives. The valk itself is a normal release, thus pre-order madness (again). This might be worse than the Max VF-1A, if that is even possible... I'm hoping the popularity of DYRL in Japan means Bandai is making more of this valk than the Max TV 1A. Shouldn't a preorder date be coming up soon?
-
Got one for the Hikaru VF-1S:
-
Yeah, I'm interested. Please be a web exclusive. I can't take a repeat of the Max VF-1A.

It looks like that is in Chinese Yuan, not Japanese Yen. Taobao is a predominately Chinese website (sort of like ebay). Caveat emptor, as always.

Game of Thrones TV talkback thread. BOOK READERS STAY OUT.
HardlyNever replied to peter's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm glad it's over. I didn't hate the ending, but this final season has just felt so bad, it is more a relief than anything else. I read the books, and the one thing this season has done, more than anything else, is make me hope we actually get a book finale. I stopped caring years ago, because I figured GRRM wasn't going to ever finish the book series. I figured the TV show ending would be "good enough" and I could move on. It wasn't even good, much less "good enough." I want the books more than ever now.- 316 replies

This video does a pretty good job of explaining the current situation. As he says, this isn't intended to be a complete and exhaustive telling of the entire Robotech/HG/Macross story, just an overview to get viewers up to speed: Keep in mind this is part 4 of a series. And obligatory f**k Harmony Gold.

Another PSA for this valk: The thumbs on the integrated/articulated hands are weak and dumb. I broke one off, and I don't even know how. I was transforming it to fighter mode, and the thumb just seemed to... fall off. I thought it was a ball joint with how easily it fell off, but no, it's just poorly made. It wish it were a ball joint like the DX 1/48 hands, then I could just pop it back in. I never use these hands outside of fighter mode, so it's not a big deal. I've managed to glue it, but now I have basically another fixed-posed fist, just smaller for fighter mode. Just be careful handling the articulated hands, I guess:

My VF-1D just came in, and I just checked out my feet. While stiff, I guess I got lucky on this release, because they aren't that bad. I had a similar issue to what others are describing with my VT-1, but this isn't too bad. So I guess it is a case-by-case basis. I definitely think Bandai changed the way they do HMR VF-1 feet from the VT-1 onward (a material and/or process change), but I think it can work out, sometimes.

Also, I know we're talking about Regults, technically, but do they constantly resize Kamjin/Quamzin to fit in a Glaug, then make him big to walk around when he isn't piloting? It's possible, but unlikely, imo. I think the simpler and more likely answer is "anime magic," per usual.

I'm happy to report that I finally got the arm mechanism un-stuck. I tried multiple things, but what ultimately got it was using a hair dryer on it for about a minute, maybe a minute and a half. Thing is, that is one of the first things I tried when this all started, so I can't guarantee that will work first try. I tried to document all my steps in case anyone else has this happen to them, so I'll list a short summary of everything I did below. I wish I could say there is one magic way to get it unstuck, but I'm not sure that there is. Anyhow, here's what I did (keep in mind this was over the course a week and a half, not all in one sitting): 1) Started with basic up/down and left/right movement of the joint. I did use a hair dryer on it for about 30 seconds or so early on. Didn't seem to do much 2) I tried prying at it with a tiny allen wrench. I don't know how much this helped, and I got minor scratching underneath, so I wouldn't recommend trying to pry at it with anything other than your hands. 3) Used a silicone-based lubricant (last night) and let it set for a while. 4) More pulling/movement by hand. This time more of a circular motion, trying to loosen it from all angles. 5) Hair dryer again, this time for 60-90 seconds. Then a moderate pull, and it was loose. If I had to guess, it was a combination of the silicone lube and hair dryer that got it, at least for me. But I'd recommend starting with the hair dryer for 60-90 seconds first, for anyone that encounters this. That's the best advice I could give. There's a little bit of scratching from the allen wrench, but it is underneath so it doesn't really affect the appearance. The pin/button thing that anchors the whole arm assembly together is a little loser, as well, but it still functions perfectly fine. That much pulling/prying is bound to loosen that part up. What caused it? I can't really say. I didn't mis-transform it in any way, as far as I can tell. The arms were in the proper position. I had it in battroid mode for 6+ months, so that is what I am suspecting right now. I'll examine it more and see if I can determine any other causes. It's a shame this design suffers from so many transformation issues, because it looks great.

That looks like a manufacturing error, specifically they installed the magnets (which sit at the ends of the booms) the wrong direction. There are two magnets that are supposed to attract each other, and they look like they are repelling. Or somehow the polarization of the magnets got switched... It could be some other issue, it is hard to tell without having it in hand. But it really looks like the magnets are repelling each other in that pic. I don't have that issue.
