Pre-orders open again at MK https://mykombini.com/en/march-2019/12991-hi-metal-r-vf-4-lightning-iii-macross-flash-back-2012-bandai-spirits-4573102553812.html 12890y

Oh wow! I never expected them to go that deep with variations. Maybe a CF VF-4G, but not Roy or M & M with a different head sculpt. The VF-4 is very near the top of my favorite valk designs so I will get every single one they decide to produce. As much as I love them though I hope they space out the releases and give us some destroids or enemy mech in between. A VF-1D wouldn't hurt either.

Dang it. Can't believe I forgot about this last night. I even had my laptop sitting next to me at midnight. Oh well. I haven't had an issue getting a late pre-order for any HMR in the past. It may take a few weeks/months of scouring the regular sites for availability but I'm sure I will be able to get one eventually. Sure would have been nice to not have to do that though. I really need to write myself a note or set a reminder in the future.

Agreed. While 2016 and 2017 may have been when the did the releases exactly the way I would want the most important thing over the frequency is that the line continues. If they need to reduce from 7/8 Macross items a year to half that amount and not have as many new molds to keep the line viable I'll take it.
-
They can make all of the non-Macross HMR's they want, just so long as they don't impact the release of Macross HMR's. My desire would be about 1 Macross item every other month (hopefully with about half of those being a new mold) and they can fill up the other months with non-Macross stuff. They were pretty much doing it perfectly for me in 2016 and 2017.
-
This. Poor choice of words on my part. I wish I was enough of an insider to know their actual production numbers.
-
If that's how you want to classify it then you go with it For me I was only counting the VE-1 as the only new mold as the VT-1 came after and was the exact same base valk except for the head. Putting on some new leg armors and boosters doesn't count as unique enough to count as an entirely new mold in my mind.
-
I was just about to post something similar. 2018 has definitely been the worst year for Macross HMR. Low production numbers (almost half of the previous full years) and all valks with no destroids or enemy mechs. 2016 also gave 3 completely new molds and 2017 gave us 4 new molds. 2018 just gave us 1 if you want to call it that since it was still a variation on a VF-1. Like you I hope 2019 gives us a better year for Macross HMR.

That canopy looks pretty foggy. Hopefully Hikaru was just thinking of Misa on the photoshoot day and the production version will be clear.

Yes, I was hoping that the entire housing would rotate. Or even better if the housing was on a joint that could be pulled away from the main body so that it could not only rotate but also move up/down/forward/back. Obviously this movement would be limited (especially the forward/back) but even a little would make a big difference.
-
This is welcome news. I probably would have preferred a destroid or zentradi mech but the VF-4 is the top valk I would have wanted them to do next. Like Jenius I was hoping that they would find a way to integrate some shoulder articulation but oh well. At least the line is still continuing and giving us something new. Bring on the PO!

My 31A arrived home safe and sound yesterday. No brown shipper box which is to be expected with these late acquisitions by NY. It was a long frustrating wait but now that I have it it was worth it. One of my favorites for sure.

Only the Ver Ka had that issue. They used a different material for the anime version which doesn't have that issue. While it is an awesome model I don't know if I would recommend it for someone trying to get back into Gundam. Having to decal/reverse wash/hand paint the gold can be a pain. If I recall correctly the Psycho Zaku is the most recent Zeon MG. It does reuse a lot of parts from the Zaku 2 2.0 (mostly the frame) but there is still a lot of new parts and engineering as well. It's quite large with the backpack but you don't have to display it with it if you are limited on space. The weapons choices also make it a lot of fun. I would also agree with Noel and Ignacio. You can't go wrong with any of those. My #1 favorite though is the Sazabi. I know you said anything but that one but in my opinion it truly is one of the very best Gundam models Bandai has ever produced. Its articulation is a little limited (but not bad) however its shelf presence is undeniable. I am a little biased though as that suit in general has been at the top of my list since the day I first saw it.

Well it took a week after they put it in preparation in progress status but my 31A was shipped by NY. Still have no idea where NY is getting these from but as long as it arrives safely on my door step that's all that matters in the end.

I sent my third monthly status request for my 31A to NY last night (ordered 10/27/17). They responded with an update for 'Preparation in progress'. While I know that nothing is guaranteed until I actually have it in hand it's hard to not get excited about a positive change in status after all of these months.

The Official Moscato Hobby Models Thread
Boobytrap replied to captain america's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Received my Motorcycle Freak sets this past week and began clean up on them over the weekend. So far it has been a breeze. Other than one or two around the box hinges there hasn't been a single pin hole to be filled. The RPG and rifle barrels were slightly bent in one of my sets but those things are to be expected and easily fixed. In fact only having two curved pieces out of all the pieces in two sets is a pretty high mark in my book. My only one nit pick would be with the rifle barrel position itself. It is ever so slightly off center. I have contemplated cutting it off and re-positioning it but since it is only really noticeable from the top I figured it would be more trouble than it is worth. Overall I am very happy. I know captain america has a very good reputation around here for a quality product but this set still exceeded my expectations. Hopefully we will see more of these sets with some unique goodies to pair with the future Sentinel releases. -
Yes I am sure that there is some logical business decision that this is related to that I/we are not privy to. Bandai has obviously been around for quite awhile and is doing well financially so they must know what they are doing. My statement was more a venting of my frustration in not getting a toy I want. It also helps me to feel better picturing some evil villain CEO that has a grudge against me. Sometimes he wins, sometimes I win.

That was only an issue with the Ver Ka Sinanju. They fixed that on the anime version and the Stein. They even give you an extra waist piece on the Stein so that you can fix the Ver Ka. If you ever plan on getting a Sinanju I would keep the extra Stein pieces and buy the Ver Ka since that one has the water slide decals. The Ver Ka doesn't come with the bazooka though. As for which one to pick I think all 3 are great quality kits and a lot of fun to build. I probably like the Hi-Nu the best (I visually prefer it without the HWS though). In the end you can't go wrong with any of them. Happy building!

I haven't had any issue with the locking joints on mine. I actually like them. They may limit some pose somewhat but at least you know they will stay in place. What I really didn't like was the lack of detail on the inner frame. It felt in no way like a PG when I put it together. More like an upscaled MG. It was disappointing to say the least. For such a popular suit it really felt like they phoned the frame in. My other big issue were the joints that they didn't provide a locking mechanism to. The biggest offender to this was the shoulder joint. It is nothing but a friction joint. There is no way it is able to hold anything out in front of it as the arm always drops. Unless they do a major revision there is no way it is going to be able to hold the buster sword without a stand to support it.

As kajnrig mentioned, the inner frame for the PG is quite good. For me the inner detail is on par with the GP-01 and Strike. It is about as plain as plain can possibly be when the outer armor is put on though. Not only is there very little parts separation (comparable to a basic MG) they didn't really even give any panel lines. I painted mine with RX-93 Nu colors just to give a little more variation but it is first on my list when I decide to try my hand at scribing panel lines. As for the suit history itself, it was the first upgrade the fans saw from the grand daddy RX-78 (other previous suits like the NX and GP series were ret-conned in later). It took pretty much all of the visual cues from that mobile suit and made them better (in my opinion anyway). It also had the dark/Titans as an alternate color scheme going for it as well. All these years later though I doubt that it is super high on anyone's top list of Gundams. I think why the kits are as good as they are due to two reasons. First is that its simple design allows the engineers to focus other things besides balance/transformation/gimmicks etc. Second, it being a main suit they still put more effort into it than they would a basic grunt suit.

Man the EVA MB just isn't meant to be for me. Part of it is my fault since I haven't been able to get online every day this week. However, every time I do I see a new link for a shop it is available at, click it, annnnd its gone. I know it's been said over and over again with these ridiculous pre-order sell outs but Bandai must really hate money. I can't help but picture some sadistic CEO happily giving up the money from a few thousand extra orders just so he can drink the tears of their frustrated clientele.
