That's one reason I would simply score it with a knife; when glue is that thick, it can cause the plastic to shear and tear/ break in unpredictable ways. Better to score through it so if it does "shear", it does so along a pre-planned route.
-
I would try "scoring" them lightly with an xacto knife where they were glued to the nose, then attempt to work them free. If you could, please post a pic so we can see what's going on. I definitely don't want this broken on you either.

Thanks! I'll try to have more stuff up soon. Looking to illustrate all those moments in Macross that we love, and some "re-interpretations" of others. Stay tuned folks...

Yes; I've used Micro-Sol for years, and it works on most decals pretty effectively. It makes them look like they were "painted on". I usually find it at Hobbytown USA for about $4.50 a 1 oz. bottle (a little goes a long way!).

Mold began wearing out perhaps? I know those molds have a fairly limited lifespan, but not sure if that would affect the seams first or the detailing.

To answer your question Thom: Right now, I deliberately over-coated my previous work with green to kill down the detail; the marker should "bleed through" slightly for a "pre-shading" effect, while I do another layer of panels over it.
-
Uh, yeah: I work quick... I just need to do some more paintwork and stuff over the basics here.
-
No; it's only half-scale to it. But it should work for Photoshop well enough...

With thousands of civilians aboard, and after being hounded by the Zentraedi across the Solar System (and the battle where Roy was fatally wounded), Capt. Global isn't taking any chances.

Meantime folks, I'm taking a break from the SDF-1 to build a first: a Zentraedi battleship. In this case, it's the Thurvel-Salan Class Battleship: There's a specific reason I'm doing this one, and for folks who know the episodes well, you'll get why I'm doing this one. Here is the ship so far: Needs some refinement still and some detailing... but not bad for 2 hours work. Stay tuned...

Can we have another Ewok movie? :{ -
UPDATE: okay, I got a bit ambitious... I saw that the 1/4000 Hasegawa TV version had tiny planes on it, and thought "well, let's see how that would look." So, I cut some simple valks out of styrene and painted them up a bit and glued them into place. I also tried to use paint to represent tow vehicles for the planes and people on the ship. The effectiveness of it may not be what I was hoping for, but a bare flight deck bothered me. On that note, it also bothered me that the ship looked too "clean" of detail, so I did something a bit daring and found the old Takatoku sticker sheets online and the placement instructions and replicated in large part the details from that. I plan on doing a few washes and drybrushing to kill down the garishness, then some touch-up and clean up on some of the work that smeared. Well, at least it ain't boring anymore,,, Stay tuned folks...

Really liking how this is coming out, Arbit! The brown is a good contrast against that blue/purple/grey, and your paintwork looks very clean. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on this one.

Looking really sharp there! Nice save!

UPDATE: Some more antennae work- At this point, there isn't really too much more left to do. I'm considering either painting in or trying to sculpt tiny Valkyries out of sprue for Daedalus, and I'm also thinking about a stand or something to display this on that could handle both cruiser and storm attacker modes. That said, all the major work is pretty much done. Here's where we started with this one: And here's where the project currently stands : Stay tuned folks...

Okay...cruiser mode: You can see on the last pic the "frame" that I had to build to enable it to transform. Unfortunately, there was just no good way to really disguise it at this scale, as it would require the legs to slide up (or the chest thrusters to slide down), and it was already getting kind of "fiddly" in that area. The hips snapped off twice before I finally gave in and simply glued them into a fixed position. Another limitation is the arms: they are by necessity longer in the elbow mountings than the actual ship. I didn't want to keep tearing up the plastic with continual modifications, having learned my lesson with the VF-1S model. So, I settled for this. For any artwork in Photoshop, I can simply edit out the frame and shorten the arms as needed. Finally: the halves of the bridge don't separate and slide to either side. I couldn't figure out a decent looking way to do that which wouldn't break about every 2-3 transforms. (Makes me wonder if Capt. Global ever had thoughts like that? "Hmm...we should transform to attack mode, but is the ship gonna break again? Hikaru had to go run and get the radar mast for the third time this week!") Stay tuned...

lol Yeah; it's just showing how big my mitts are. I'll have pics in a day or so. Got a nasty stomach bug that had me vomiting up my entire digestive system. I still feel like utter crap.

Teeny, tiny update: I couldn't find the radar mast in the kit for the SDF_1 Macross (probably went missing a long time ago before Kelsain ever got the kit himself). Anyways, some stretched sprue, glue, and a LOT of determination, pati9ence, and profanity later ( ), I managed to get something that kinda resembles it: Not the prettiest in the world, but hey, at this scale, I'm lucky to do any fine work. Pepsi cans for fingers, ya know. Stay tuned... (now with radar!)...
