Thanks Seto (and everyone else); I knew I probably had some stuff garbled in my understanding, which is why I ask. So basically then: had they prepared with the correct picture of what space combat would have been like, Space War 1 might have gone a bit differently? Would it have been possible for Earth to have made enough defenses to successfully repel Boldoza's fleet? -

That's why I cut off at Aliens. As far as I'm concerned: BTW: -
RIP. I always like how positive he was and how he didn't blame people for their condition, but helped them improve it and get moving.

Seto, I hate to pull you away from your discussion about the Volunteer Knights of Arkarelia (fascinating read, thus far!), but I have a question for you: In SDFM, The VF-1 had been built to the size of the alien soldiers' height and with limited space performance (it seemed to depend heavily upon atmosphere to draw reactants). In DYRL, unless they were in atmosphere, they were almost always equipped with FAST Packs. My question is: how do you think the VF-1 would have been designed differently had the Unity Government of the era known the Zentraedi's overall stance on fighting wars? I know SDFM and DRYL differ a bit, and from one source I read, they actually found some battle pods aboard the ASS-1 (?)*. If that's the case, shouldn't they have built the VF-1 a bit bigger? *-cannot swear to this; I have a memory nowadays like an Etch-A-Sketch!!! O.o -
So the YF-30 is basically a technology showcase, whereas the YF-29 is a bonifide weapons system fighter.

No, I don't. Anyways, this is just going in the trash. Waste of 50 dollars and several weeks of effort. My humble apologies to everyone here. No one needs my melodrama. Post after this has been removed.

I'm not sure I trust the VFMF's take on that, as that would also mean the pilot couldn't breathe without disturbing it, either. O.o On that note (spoilered since some folks ma not have seen M+ and there's a new release comign out for it): -

Yeah; nearly as fast as when a cat hears a can of cat food being opened. -
No. All the other kit had were the arms, what was left of the feet and the missile pod and gun. Effectively, this project is dead; there's nothing to hold it together in soldier mode.

There's sad, there's "the entire universe hates me" sad, and then there's "I'm Anakin and the entire universe is made of sand" sad. That goes in the third category. -
UPDATE: You'd think by now I'd learn my lesson about "older kits". Well... apparently, I haven't: The entire transform for the central chest crumbled to pieces on me. It took the hinge for the nose, the central chest and the chest door with it. This happened while I was using plastic welder to fix a final part in position; the result was plastic welder getting all over my freshly-polished canopy. Also for some weird reason, the nose split in half lengthwise just under the canopy; the following pic was after I attempted to save the nose by trying to smooth down the ragged areas and "squaring off" where the cockpit/ canopy had separated (the other side has a gaping maw that doesn't look too promising): I also scraped off as much plastic welder as I could from the canopy, but it's pretty badly hazed here. Started with my polishing films before setting this aside, which is why it looks "rough sanded'. The side glove vanes completely disintegrated to crumbs; all that was left were the polycap joints. In any event, I'm stepping back from this unholy disaster to reconsider if I want to continue with this one or not. It's shaken my confidence that badly.

Probably Disney's revenge for The Black Hole not doing as well as Star Wars back when they released it in 1979... -

UPDATE: I revised the hip/ pelvic slider setup into one metal bar with ball joints at either end. This allows the hips to splay out and for one single unit to slide the legs/ engines forward for transformation: It's far more stable now, and the wait/ pelvis is mostly solid styrene/ plastic welder resin at this point. Which is MORE than I can say for the rest of this PIECE OF-- *clears throat* To the point: the sensor unit on a hinged flap (the one that partially covers the gaping maw in the back of the fighter) snapped off on me today. Needless to say, I was not impressed by this in the least: The joint was flimsy to begin with, but I suspect the styrene mix this run of models was pressed from is like that of the RotJ large X-Wing fighter: soft and possibly including air/ gas in the mix, making it more porous. But as stated previously: every time this thing gives me grief I take my frustration out on it with more modifications: I extended the sensor door/ torso cover so that it covers the entire cavity and not only half of it. I'm seriously thinking of putting it on a ball-jointed swing-arm so that it can go to either shoulder. Not sure how that would work; we'll see if I can make that work. One other issue are the stupidly-small (pretty much asinine-small ) ailerons that stick out of the arms (from previous pics of this model earlier in the build): Since this kit is supposed to be Leader-1 from Gobots, I'm taking some liberties here with the final config on this build. This is my baseline here: While I'm not trying to build an exact replica in 1/72 (already have a MP Leader-1 I did several years ago); I'd like to include enough "hallmarks" to indicate who this is supposed to be. So my idea is to relocate the ailerons elsewhere on this kit: The pencil line (it's on both sides) denotes where the hinge for the aileron(s) will go. In robot mode, the aileron will simply flip backwards on the leg and should neatly tuck just under the raised area (on an angle). This way, I can make it "much larger without it interfering with the arm transformation. As for the old ailerons: I simply put glue on them and folded them back into place. Stay tuned....
