It somehow starts looking like a Front Mission mech. If a toy is to be made of this, it could well turn out to look quite different from this illustration, as what we are seeing of the Gate ride-armor.

When I first came across these anniversary liveries, they look so far removed from what a typical real jet would look like until I stumbled upon actual anniversary liveries of various air forces. JASDF squadrons appear to be pretty prolific and they have some of the most colorful ones. That said this 30th Anniversary 1J look good enough to my eyes without the additional stickers. On other hand the 35th Anniversary one just looks too plain without them.

From Macross Mecha Manual site, the more modern interpretation of VF-1 Battroid line-art taken from the Master Files:

If you meant the cracked-shoulder hinge, it should have been resolved. Even for the earlier releases with cracked shoulders, they will not affect transformation & can be worked around with more careful transformation.
-
Warmed up a bit more to the 30th Anniversary VF-1J. Colorful for sure, but the lines do flow through nicely from one part to another.

Just passing by to say, the X-59 is just giving out the Metal Siren vibes.

Was hoping the Transporter be released the same time. Otherwise, where are we gonna put the limbs when it is in bike mode?- 817 replies

From the pictures on online, it's pretty confirmed that it has some waist swivel going on as well. Hopefully it is secure and doesn't involve the swing bar detaching like the Chogokin. Not bad, at smallish 1/72 scale, it already has most of the innovations of other VF-1 toys that came before it, except perhaps the movable wing flaps that nobody seems to like. Not sure if the whole nose can also be removed ala Yamcadia v2.

The issue about the arm-cannon is that it will point straight ahead provided the panel at the rear of cannon is not fully tabbed into the wing. If that rear panel is flushed in fully, then the cannon will point down. Only on some copies people will be able to get both - fully flushed panel with gun pointing straight, and even less if they can get both left & right sides to do the same. So far it has been very random to the degree of flushness vs angle of guns and everything in between.

Nice. What are these? -
Kinda feels a bit like a mis-step from Bandai. Removing so many stuff while maintaining essentially almost same price just leaves a bit of sour taste in mouth for some. Rationally we know why in this new high-cost landscape, but toys are emotional purchases after all. They could have at least announce some improvements or new features to the valk to make up for the price hike, & the new effect parts just doesn’t do enough. At least for the Revivals 25 & 29, there’s that matte finishing & supposedly tighter thigh joints, that makes it enough for some folks who already have the Renewals to extra dip on this again.

I like the rounder sculpt in Battroid which makes the Chogokin suddenly look very squarish lol.. On that basis I think Threezero brings sufficient new things to the table for the VF-1 where it has been iterated so many times over the years on a rather fixed design.
-
If Threezero's VF-1 is coming up for PO soon, we'll see if KC will continue on their VF-1 announcement streak. I suspect they will really lose license for the 1/72 VF-1. In one of their FB replies on the special color Roy, they mentioned the current VF-1 will be the 'final version' in reply to someone asking which body version it will be.

Yeahh that ankle flap piece will greatly complement the outward hip joint pioneered by the Chogokin. The legs on other hand doesn't appear to be as long as the other VF-1 toys, making it look wee bit stockier. Perhaps it's a Threezero thing as its also something we see on their Voltron too. Interested to see more Fighter pics to gauge how much of it is affected by the shorter legs.

Hobby-Search is the mythical unicorn for Macross POs, because I think no one on these boards have managed to land a PO with them for years. But they are as legit as HLJ & Amiami, in being a 1st-tier store in most people's mental lists. I have ordered stuff from them over the years, they have great shipping rates & they pack well. No idea on their customer service though, as I have not had any situation where I needed to raise any issues with them. You could also try Hobby-Genki, which have pretty good prices for this item: https://hobby-genki.com/en/macross/18254-proto-garland-megazone-23-part-ii-124-diecast-model-4582482821367.html For Hobby-Genki POs, you are supposed to make full payment for the item one month before release date. However, they look like a small outfit with limited manpower, so they do not always follow through their own stated policies. In my small handful of orders with them so far, sometimes they only start asking for payment 1 or 2 weeks after item have been released, but there have also been times they send the appropriate payment requests 1 month before. For their POs, always specify 'private warehouse' option, so they will charge the appropriate shipping rate after item release. Do not specify for shipping upfront, as their shipping estimates can be rather wild for an unreleased item, and I am not sure if they will actually refund you later during actual shipping if you have overpaid during PO. However, general shipping rates have gone up drastically in the past couple of years. Amiami's shipping can sometimes be higher than HLJ or Hobby Search, but in my experience its always only about 10% at most, so if Amiami seems excessive, chances are it won't be much different at the other stores.- 817 replies

The new effect parts look like 2 halves of a boiled egg. If we add the typical price Bandai charges for an accessory pack, then the whole combo now becomes same price as what Arcadia charges for their YF-19.

The new Roy colour is cool, but now when I see the comparison it just makes the old Roy looks like it has yellowed lol.
