Ah Part 2 of the write-up is out. The landing gears are really in a tight space..

Ah yes, the rear landing gears.. it was one of the most irritating aspects of Yamato's. A slight movement backwards when adjusting it on the shelf will see the whole rear flop down. Quite puzzling that Yamato allowed it to happen, seeing how they (including Arcadia) have always paid extra attention to landing gears both in looks and tactile feel. When the DX YF-21 was initially revealed all the way back, we saw quite a few Yammies showing up on JP secondary markets, and the price did drop quite a bit then. They are back to normal levels now. We'll likely see another round of lower price adjustments when the DX actually releases.

I don't disagree that the 0S plastic looks & feels cheap, and makes for bad first impressions, but as far as I can tell especially after having the 0D to compare, the feeling is all due to the colour or lack of it (translucence). During handling, the plastics is actually tough & strong (can't say that for the Toynami VF-1!), and the molding is very precise for how it all comes together well during transformation. Fiddy-ness is more down to tight clearances & tiny parts on some areas, but not so much imprecise fit like say, how the bigger KC VF-1s can be.

Seeing Bandai's approach vs Yamato's makes me appreciate even more how hard it is to translate the various details & the many hard compromise decisions the designers have to take for the YF-21. Yamato got quite a bit of flak for the thin legs, but they must have gone through quite a few design iterations before settling on what they did. Remains to be seen how well Bandai's effort will turn out, but it's great that they are taking a different approach instead of taking the easy way & just copy Yamato.

Never had Yammie clear parts either. Did toy with idea of getting Valkyrie Factory's parts, but they are also similarly too opaque so was never motivated enough to get it. Meanwhile, let's have a look at the 1/60 Hikaru Strike Valkyrie Semi-Mechanics Edition

To be fair, the 0S translucence is not really noticeable during normal handling in normal room light. It only becomes apparent during photoshoots when it is backlit or with focused lights passing through at certain angles. For better or worse, the 0S is also a warmish tone of white, which should make mask any early yellowing down the road.

Safe to speculate that Bandai showing this with the Fast Packs will mean it will be bundled into the release..

@Raikkonen When I look back at some of my posts it may seem I'm a bit of a debbie downer picking stuff apart, but that's far from my intention. A few are just little personal picks but I don't mean to spoil anyone's enjoyment. It's great you are getting a fleet of them after wishing for this exact bundle. I'll be eventually getting multiples too.

Lol yeah & the official pics so far makes the colors of the valk & Ghost to be a bit oversaturated. One thing I never understood is why the missile pods are in that chosen color. They look quite out of place to both the 0S & 0A colors, & reminds me of my worst yellowed white plastic toy.

Yikes, seems quite a few cases being reported recently. Sorry to hear this, but good to hear they can be repaired. I'll prolly leave mine in Fighter forever.
