Size-wise, he scales pretty well with the Masterpieces in alt mode. In robot mode, he's close to Bumblebee's height..- 9365 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

Just sharing a recent un-boxing. Got this NewAge movie DotM Soundwave when it was released last year, but only now am messing with it.. Always liked the Mercedes Benz SLS-AMG model. The silver paint here is pretty good, there's a nice consistent sheen to it. Wheels are chrome, with painted red calipers. Love that the gullwing doors are functional here. Headlight & rear lamp details aren't so good though, rather cheap looking and lacking detail. In fact, these are the only parts I do not like, especially when compared to the excellent paint and detailing found everywhere else. Soundwave comes with nice little movie Ravage & Laserbeak. The plastics and articulation on both of them are pretty good. I forgot to install Ravage's twin guns on his back when taking this pic though.. Movie-verse designs aren't many people's cup of tea, but I love what NewAge have done here in terms of movie accuracy, built quality and paint finish. Nice gold accents, chrome parts and miscellaneous paint in the mechanical areas only visible in bot mode, and complements the silver body paint. Just, as noted earlier, the rear lamps (on his knees here) are pretty crappy and jarring in its lack of detail.. I love how clean the back is, and there's more chrome here on some of the larger mechanical details.. This toy holds its poses quite well, given how complex the transformation is, especially the legs. But everything tabs together nicely and key limb joints are sufficiently tight.. Final shot. Including this only because the wheels on his back somehow reminds me of VTOL fans..- 9365 replies

HG and BW reach an agreement (Link included)

I'm thinking, Macross toy collectors know to look to Japanese stores to import Macross items, but not so much the more casual fans. Toys being officially available at worldwide stores would capture more attention & take-up from the rest of the fans, and hopefully this increased demand will finally compel Bandai to complete that longggggg-paused HMR Macross line. -
Whether it is bundled with VF-1J or a standalone armor pack, we are all gonna buy it and Bandai knows this I had really hoped the next announcement would be the YF-21 instead of more VF-1 stuff.. but if the recent BW-HG deal means a bit more time needed to work out a worldwide release of this YF-21, then all the better.

Nice shots.. VF-1A with sniper look vaguely familiar.. Then I recall the VF-25G has it too..

Do not think styrofoam has that much effect either. Having displayed some of my earlier toys out, in a room with indirect sunlight, Bandai's V2 Frontier toys just yellow much, much more aggressively compared to Yamato's. What's sad is that their model kits doesn't seem to suffer the same problem. A few of the Gundam kits I displayed in same condition as the toys, remain as white as new, while the much pricier Chogokins are really vampires when coming to UV light.

Contrast with Frontier, where Bandai appeared to have released every valk in every color variant in that show.. but for Delta, they have been holding back. I really want the SV-262 Ba..

Looks like they tweaked the sculpt a little? Previously he seemed lankier, but now I’m liking this more. Looks to be the best KC figure yet..

@mpchi That's a very nice pic! I had a look at the original comic cover illustration and your pic captures the spirit of it perfectly!- 9365 replies

It appears this break is common over the long term for all the YF-29s and renewal VF-25s.. Love these toys for the sculpt & engineering; not so much for the various durability issues.
-
Not bad.. for a 'warehouse sale', they priced the stock at MSRP and pretty much almost everything is sold out. A far cry from Yamato days..
-
Which is why I'm not that optimistic.. if I recall correctly, the last time this happened, it resulted in many people having their order subsequently cancelled.

Roy available again at HLJ! DX Chogokin First Limited Edition VF-1S Valkyrie Roy Focker Special by Bandai (hlj.com) I'm kinda half expecting a sorry-out-of-stock / system error e-mail later on..

Great haul! Where are you gonna find space for all the new stuff? The shelves are already about as dense as could be.. -
I recently used FJ for the first time, & the shipping seem slightly, but just about noticeably higher than some other proxies or stores I'm used to. But I chalk it down to them calculating shipping charges before item is actually packed, similar to, say HLJ, Amiami or Mandarake Sahra. So its how accurate their packed-weight algorithm is, and how much margin for error they factor in for the packers to stay within the calculated weight, that affects the shipping charge. I think this margin for error for FJ is higher than others, because when I weighted the package that arrived to me & compared to their charged shipping, their charged shipping weight was higher by about 15-20% as compared to actual package weight. Stores like HLJ seem to have gotten the weight algorithm down pat, & Amiami from memory of a few packages before, was about 10% variance at most.

I guess we won't know if stuff like loose wings & ankles has been fixed until release. But there's a good chance it could be, seeing how the recent VF-4 mold has tighter joints compared to the previous releases..

The PF price.. is just hard to justify, not only just against Bandai’s, but against their own, normal version that’s been sitting below MSRP for some time now. Normal release circa 20k yen on secondary market, vs PF at more than double the price...

It’ll be interesting what Arcadia will do for premium finish. It has to go beyond just more tampos, else it will look even more like Bandai’s with an even harder to justify price.. With this re-release, i think it’s also first time we see a valk license with similar scale being held concurrently by 2 companies? When Bandai’s YF-19 came out, I thought Arcadia has lost their license for that..

I've also been collecting select 3rd party TF movieverse figures around the same time as I do Macross, and more than once I've been blown away on the ingenuity of the transformations. Yes, many seem to feature endless folding parts & overengineered complexity that makes the DX Chogokins VF-171 & SV-262 seem very simple in comparison, but they do achieve their end objective of being rather show-accurate in both modes, despite how the transformation process itself were never figured out by the shows' mecha designers. The one gripe all these while, especially as a Macross collector, was that no one could design a kibble-free underside for the movieverse jets, which is understandably hard since it's another surface to deal with as compared to say, the vehicle-bots since no one really cares about vehicle undersides. However, the recent 3rd party Bumblebee-movie Blitzwing toys have changed that and gives us an F4 Phantom that is essentially kibble-less. I'm so looking forward to receiving that! -
Really excellent pics! The way the lighting sweeps over the cockpit somehow gives it a nice dynamism..
