Over the past few years, I've been retroactively picking up older Macross & non-Macross PVC figures - oldest being stuff made in the early 2000s. I noticed PVC figures made in that decade have the highest incidence of what is sometimes termed as 'PVC weep'. It could perhaps be due to the age of the figures themselves, but it is most likely due to the plasticiser mix as @pengbuzz mentioned above, going by the smattering of user reports that I could still find on back when those figures were still relatively new. CM's Macross Figures are also susceptible to this, but as waves (parts) get released over that decade, they appear to have improved in plastic stability. Miria 639 is also made by CM's, but unfortunately they are not only by far the worst weepers in their Macross line up, but the most prolific weeper of all figures I own. So far, soaking in mild soap and brushing with toothbrush work to get rid of the stickiness, but with Miria 639 I would have to do it semi-regularly, maybe twice a year, to prevent a noticeable puddle of goo under her feet. The good thing is, the paint doesn't appear to be affected with the weeping & subsequent cleanings, but I think one day the whole figure will just melt away into nothing.

Yeah the weathering doesn't look that good, and I'm not really particularly fussy about weathering realism. Also just catching up on some reviews for Roy's 1S.. Kudos to ThreeZero for fixing the ultra stiff shoulders for it and the 1J Weathered.

I guess it makes more sense now why Satelight not involved in the new Macross, & why Kawamori has been doing more direct self-promotion lately.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
MKT replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If not mistaken, the current reissue (I think it's the 3rd issue) has been delayed for a whole year since its planned release date, from Feb 2024 to now latest being Apr 2025. This is the same as other Arcadia products as well over the past year like the reissue VF-1S Hikaru & Roy. Arcadia Garlands have generally been quite easy to get after release, but that said I would not put much hope that the Apr 2025 release will happen; there will likely be further delays. Here's an original issue at Mandarake: https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1146997318&lang=en- 816 replies

Great to hear it worked.

Unboxed the Soundbooster, which came in the same time as Bogue's 262. I guess I can kinda accept that Bandai used the same mold as the old HM one, but I really wish the paint app were better updated. Firstly, I don't like the dull blue they maintained. It would be better off with the deeper & brilliant blue Yamcadia used. It also indicates that should Bandai onward makes a HMR VF-19S/F, they might continue with the same dull blue they used for the HM. Secondly, I wished they put in more colors on the piping details under the top flap and the speakers themselves. Just a single swath of silver across these areas makes it look cheap. It might have been nice when they were first released 15 years ago, but doesn't look good for today's release. Conversely, I liked that they tightened up all the joints. I recall the all the opening flap joints on the old HM are rather loose out of the box, and here they are nice & tight.

I think the blue leg locks above the ankles doesn't affect the collapsing / extending function. I made more attempts to push the obstinate ankle in, but in the end I had to partially transform it before it worked. Un-tab the wing, spread the offending leg out, fold the feet to battroid position, then unfurl the heel & booster nozzle. This creates a space in the feet where your whole thumb can rest within. With a VERY firm push, the ankle collapsed. I pulled the ankle out and collapsed it a couple more times but it didn't seem to get any easier. This is certainly much more involving & frustrating than needs to be, and it's lucky I don't transform my toys much beyond what is needed for long term display.

It's what I do as well haha.. The DX and Arcadia boxes are kept away in storage whilst the HMR boxes are just too nice that they have to be displayed. Also keeping all the boxes wrapped up in PP sealing plastic. Takeshi Nakamura's art is a nice alternative to Tenjin's, & am happy to have both working on the HMR stuff. I just find it weird higher priced DXs come in comparatively boring graphics.

Ah so the ankles do extend. Just like others above, Keith's extend easily. I just unboxed to do a quick check on Bogue's. Both ankles came in extended position. I collapsed one side, although quite a fair bit stiffer than Keith's, whilst the other refused to budge. I may muster up more courage to use more force at a later time. Meanwhile, I do like the shade of red used. In many of the pics before this, it always looked a bit too red, but in hand it's just the right saturation to me with the gold still standing out on its own. It's also great there are no reports of peeling gold paint tampo on the wings like Keith's did.

Nexx's came later than Silvie's, but like @Bobby, my Nexx is the one that's yellowing first..

Mine just arrived today, but will only unbox over the weekend. The ankles look to be some concern, hopefully it's not a big issue.

I do agree on the plastics grade being lower on the 1/48. They seem to become a little more crunchy / brittle over time - any areas that are stiff requires careful handling as they might break. One of my 1/48 bay doors snapped when trying to pry them open, and one of the leg super pack clamp broke too whilst trying to remove. I can relate to the blue used for Max, though mine is the 1J. The same intake area you mentioned also yellowed first on mine, far earlier than any other areas of valk, and the pattern of it suggests just bad plastics composition rather than UV or oxidation.

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

Yes, they've outdone themselves this time. It could be the most complex 3rd party jet bot yet, but the results are truly amazing.- 9240 replies

I think one factor that makes the Yammie 1/48 still endearing after all these years is how they are generally much more resistant to yellowing compared to Bandai's products. This, coupled with the other bad ass non-white schemes.

My Keith 262Hs right shoulder's a bit loose now, but it has been in Battroid mode for years holding up that big gun in my display. Other joints appear fine though. Look forward to receiving Boque's Hs, at least we now have another variation of this 262 in Chogokin. Come one Bandai, please announce the Ba next.

Nice pose. VF-4 battroid really looks best when it's looks like its flying through the air rather than standing on ground.

Haven't been up-to-date on news lately, but seeing the pics of Max.. he seems to actually look worse than KC's earlier sample. The clothes are really ill-fitting, look cheap, and the face sculpt looks to be modelled after their own artwork (the box art) rather than being anime accurate. It brings to mind a mass-produced Ken figure to a Barbie doll, rather than a collectible that we are normally used to. I liked and still like flight-suit Rick which has the same 'advanced figure' concept, and Dana was great, but Max feels like it's made by entirely another party.

Strange that not even a model kit of the SV-303 has been made.. I have always thought model kits sit more favorably in Bandai's cost/benefit analysis in releasing anything.

Well ok at least it hasn't been straight up cancelled. By not showing the VF-5000G in the exhibition, it doesn't really portend well for that project, but I hope it doesn't go the way of the only other unreleased Arcadia Macross item - the CF VF-0A. At least the Hargun is still visible. Oh, and both reissue 1S Roy & Hikaru still not out yet. Man, that is approaching KC levels of delay.

Just a follow up report. Not long after the above post, I sent the whole leg assembly to my vendor, who then it shipped off to ThreeZero HK for 'repairs'. I got them back last week, and far as I can tell, TZ essentially sent over brand new lower legs. What's different this time around is how much less stiff all moving parts are on these new legs. The buttons require much less fingernail force, sliders on the knees and feet move with less strength, the knees twist with less effort. Not sure if it's variation in assembly quality, or this is part of new production with adjusted tolerances. Disconcertingly, one of the Gerwalk joints is very noticeably not as tight as the other one. As we know, the Gerwalk joint is purely friction based like the HMR and I hope this won't become an issue further down the road with more play & becomes floppy.

Nice story and it just got better towards the end.
