I think you're right. I'm so used to the Hasegawa Battroid that this design gives off a chonk vibe. However, when I compare it to the line art @Big s posted, it looks almost perfectly proportioned. I have Battroid Dysmorphia. Go figure!

I figured that’s what was going on and why I posted the pic. Hasegawa wasn’t going for a perfect anime look when they started doing the VF-1 kits. They were more of a real world model company at the time and tried taking real world aesthetics to the subject. Not saying it’s a bad choice, just a different take on the subject. When they decided to do a battroid kit, they decided to try and keep things consistent rather than anime accurate.
The line art has very different proportions that don’t work for a full transformation. thick legs and arms, stubbier intakes and other details in the battroid that don’t match the fighter. That’s why there are so many compromises in transforming vf-1 toys, like super thin legs or arms and other details changed to make the toys work. And that’s not always bad either, just a compromise to make things work.

Max Factory decided not to do transforming or even parts forming on their kits and also decided that things didn’t have to be consistent with their fighter kit, so to those that are used to newer toys and kits, these Battroid kits will probably appear a bit too thick or chunky. It’s just what people have been seeing for so many years that that’s the way it may appear to people.

It just takes the worst aspect of Unicorn and makes that the whole plot.  Namely, psycoframes are just straight-up magic.  The Axis Shock was one thing, since that was supposedly the collective will of humanity acting on the psycoframe.  Unicorn and Narrative have just made Newtypes into wizards.  It's not surprising the ending has Mineva saying that it's her life's work to put the genie back in the bottle because these developments don't fit with any of the works set after UC 100.  Banagher's cameo is also completely unnecessary.  This movie really doesn't contribute anything meaningful or interesting to the story of Gundam Unicorn or to Gundam's Universal Century as a whole.  More than anything, where Unicorn felt to me like a toy commercial... Narrative feels like a fanfic.

I didn’t really dislike Unicorn until it started getting towards the end. I actually had hope things were going somewhere and everything just felt more and more pointless as it went on. The stupid box everyone was fighting for didn’t even seem like anything worth all the trouble.

Narrative just didn’t seem to have a glimmer of hope from the start. No characters to care about and the mobile suits were all just the same stuff we just saw.

    That bad?

It just feels weird and more of a toy commercial than anything before. The story felt slapped together as well. It’s like if Unicorn was the first film of the Star Wars sequels where there was promise of something great with great visuals, but a little lacking in other spots and Narrative was hopefully the last because it was a jumbled mess. It also just adds to the mess of the universal century that I feel I was better off without seeing. I love the designs from the unicorn era of stuff mostly, but really hate it story wise

Wow. After almost 20 years, they finally able to complete the cast in Bring Arts form? I started this Play Arts journey when they released Final Fantasy VII during the early 2000's with a number of characters left out such as Cid and Caith Sith. And then they announced the Kai line. Same thing. Released only a few characters. And then we enter the Remake line, where I basically stop on planning on completing the line aside from just getting Cloud with Daytona and/or Fenrir.

Seeing that they plan on completing the characters in Bring Arts size, as much as I love FFVII and love to have the whole cast in figure form, I can't bring myself now due to its price. And my interest is waning down now. So thank you Square-Enix.

I had a Cait Sith figure, but can’t remember if it was from the original game line or one of the other ff7 lines they had going.

gotta agree about the prices. I may get Vincent and Cid, but the whole line is gonna be way way too expensive

Toy Story 2 and 3 would like a word with you. 😉

Personally, I enjoyed Wreck-It-Ralph more than the sequel.  But the Princess bits and the Slaughter Race solo were pretty amusing.

I do have to agree about Toy Story 2 and 3. But that’s definitely from a different era and management of Pixar

Sorry to take a bit, finishing work things up.  It's kind of okay-ish, but I'd definitely rather have an HMR YF-19.

I’m still wondering if Bandai will do an hg vf-1. I don’t remember if I mentioned it here or in another thread, but I’d probably really like it, but would probably be absolutely frustrated with trying to obtain three so I could have one for each mode like I did with the YF-19 and YF-21

I'm going by the instructions so I've only built part of Battroid mode so far.  I want to get to Fighter mode to see how it looks next to the HMR VF-1 in Fighter mode.  I'll be getting the YF-21 in a couple of days so I want to see how it looks in Fighter mode next to the HMR VF-1 in Fighter mode as well.

Do you have a Fighter mode pic of the YF-19 next to the HMR VF-1?

I don’t have them next to each other, but by memory they are pretty close to the same length. The hmr may be slightly longer, but oddly the tv pilot is almost the same size

My faves tend to be on the low side of the power scale like the AV-98 Ingram from Patlabor, the Zenith Wanzer from Front Mission, and Garlands from Megazone 23.

I personally love the slightly more realistic and smaller ones like the mecha from Front Missions Megazone 23 and Votoms.  I kinda feel that if military mecha were to actually exist, it would be much smaller than a Mobile Suit from Gundam.

I also tend to be a fan of power armor, like the Nue design for Starship Troopers or Ma K. But I do like when something seems a bit justified like Macross to be able to kick a giant in the nuts

I don’t hate the fantasy stuff though, but I do like the ones that feel a bit more real personally

Honestly, I think they'd be further ahead to put Ramen Toys under contract with full licensing and let them do the hard work of development. Take a page from the Japanese approach: make the best toy possible and assign pricing accordingly instead of placing each product under a severely limited budget resulting in toys with subsequent limitations as we often see with Transformers. Promote it as a 'craft toy' line and see how it does. Of course, the prices would be higher, but if the quality and designs of the toys are this well executed, it's worth it, I suspect, to collectors and fans, especially considering what we Transformers fans pay for third party toys.

The way things are going with Hasbro, it’s actually a pretty good possibility. They laid off quite a few workers and many of their usual toys from kids to collectors have been handled by other companies. I was recently and probably annoyingly complaining about their cheap D&D toys for the cartoon and all of a sudden, Super 7 is doing some that look better and will probably have far better packaging. Other companies like Mcfarlane are doing odd page punchers for GI Joe and Transformers. And these are only a few that are putting out stuff for them. Hasbro may take a good look at what Ramen is doing. They haven’t tried to stop them and that could be a sign

Interesting news indeed. Considering Hasbro is a toy company first, one can only assume there are toys in the pipeline, although I'm dubious that they'll come close to what Ramen Toys are doing.

Recently Hasbro has become more of an overall entertainment company with seemingly higher interests in films and games. They’ve been outsourcing a lot of their toy brands to other companies lately

  11. Macross is definitely a kids show. We basically call teenagers kids all the time, but they don’t get referred to as children. And I feel that Macross definitely wouldn’t be classified as a childrens show. 99.9 percent of all anime is designed for kids and there are a few rarities that truly are for adults. Visually more are for adults, but the stories are mostly still kids stories. It’s also not a bad thing to be a kids show and shouldn’t be an insult.

As far as my thoughts on Dyrl, I love it. I don’t love it as much as the show though, but I still love it. The story is definitely too rushed and things make more sense with being able to see the series first. I absolutely love the animation and think it holds up really well today.
Even though I love the Queadluun Rau in the series more, the enemy mecha has a more interesting thing going on with the biomechanics that make them feel more alien. It wasn’t until the recent Hasegawa kit of the Queadluun Rau that I started to realize how much of the designs were so biomechanic. The other thing that I was looking at were many poses in artwork that I didn’t even notice until I was trying to see certain shapes and how much I feel like I’m still discovering rewatching scenes from the movie. There’s also a certain sense of danger in a lot of the scenes. There were some great scenes in the series, but I feel like there was more tension.

Overall, I still enjoy the series more than the film and if I knew a younger person that enjoys seeing some  older shows or movies, then I would recommend it to them. There are a lot of young kids that do enjoy older stuff, even if most might not be too interested.

I can't wait for mine to get here. Everything I've seen and heard about the kit so far is positive so I'm itching to get my hands on it.

Also, I'm about 8 or 9 episodes in to the original series and I'm enjoying it so far. If anyone here hasn't seen it yet, I recommend giving it a shot.

The kit looks pretty good. It’s in my backlog, but for those that just like to snap it up, there’s a lot of pre painted parts. and for those that are used to doing a bit more the seams seem to be in mostly simple spots and repainting those areas doesn’t look too difficult since most of them are marked either by raised or recessed plastic. I couldn’t help cutting the tape and tearing away the tissue paper to check out the parts

That said, the whole world is grappling with a transition that many consumers are weary of so I understand and sympathize with manufacturers trying to figure out how to get through this transitional period that will likely last more than a decade.

I’m really curious about how things are gonna go. Here in C.A. we’re supposed to have only electric vehicles sold brand new in just a little over a decade. I’ve seen a more and more places slowly adding charging stations like malls and some work places. A lot of people currently have electric vehicles, but most still have gas and hybrids.
I think the biggest fear for people is the battery charge on the vehicles. I moved to Crestline and when I’ve talked to people about them they’re very hesitant up here. There’s a lot of stories about how the batteries have charging issues during winter weather and it does get pretty cold up here occasionally. Others are worried the infrastructure won’t be set up fully in a decade. It’s definitely going to get interesting for better or worse

I also wonder if Bandai will include the beige feet as a bonus option parts? :spiteful:

That’s not an animation mistake, they’re just ……uh um uh….., frosty from that icy asteroid. Yeah, that’s it frosty feet
