Yeah, that's my fault. I wasn't going to originally, but it was a rainy gloomy day and I had nothing else to do (waiting on packages so I can continue my projects), so it was kinda last minute.

Shot myself in the foot there.

Anyhow, not really sure I'd want to finish it at the rate it's going, small doses or not. This series makes all the dark parts of Macross look like a bright, cheery day. Kind of surprised Tomino wasn't hospitalized in a mental institution after this series due to his family's concerns for his psychological well-being! O.o

Definitely finish it, but as said above, small doses. No more than two episodes at a time and then watch something happy afterwards. And definitely not on a gloomy rainy day

But who among us wouldn't want to watch Earth secure a lasting peace with the Zentradi after Lynn Kaifun defeats Boddole Zer in a twerk-off on the moon or similar similarly out there? 🤣

I didn’t know Disney picked up the Macross franchise.

Boddole Zer twerking would literally bring the house down

George R.R. Martin could speak at length on this topic. 🙃

I hear he likes model railroads these days. If he’s happier building models, then I guess that’s how he wants to do things. Max will eventually do more with his stories and may even pass what he’s written. I don’t know if it will be good or not. I really only could stand a few episodes of game of thrones before I stopped watching, but there are fans with bigger opinions on the subject.

Personally, I think it would be horribly hilarious with everyone bugging him about how things end for him to just give a statement that he just didn’t care anymore and somebody asked him how it ends and he just turns around walking back into his house saying “Choo choo” all the way til the door shuts behind him

They can treat it like every other anime made while the manga's unfinished and make up their own ending.

For better or worse, it’s definitely happened a lot. Sometimes the anime has come out and there never was a manga conclusion and in some cases may never be concluded

This. I think some people are pretty naive about how long that whole "they will never put the original trio back on the screen!" thing will last.

My personal take? It may hold for future (read: continuations of) stories, but for a reboot (e.g. The First), nope. All bets are off. Expect everyone up to and including Hikaru to be recast.

To be clear, I'm not particularly excited about the idea of a remake, nor am I excited about the idea of continuining Hikaru's/Minmay's/Misa's story post-'82. But I'm also not particularly excited about Delta, nor whatever is next if it continues to follow the trend of Idolshit-in-the-sky.

I pretty much agree here. I don’t think casting has really been the biggest issue on remakes. Gundam did the origin thing and many other anime series with beloved characters that have had iconic voice actors pass have had their remakes as well. I really only think the biggest block is HG right now. I do also think that currently the people in charge still want to try newer content, but that doesn’t necessarily rule out something like an adaptation of Macross the First sometime in the near future. It may not be a thing in the next few years, but maybe at the end of the decade. I may not be around to see it and maybe none of the original creators, but eventually it’s more likely to happen than not at some point

Okay, time for some workbench stuff again.

I went to the hobby shop with the kid, and he found something that I had actually build in the mid 90s, but it was destroyed in the annual „strap ugly kits to fireworks to make space for new kits“ family ritual.
My kid absolutely wanted this thing. I was reluctant to get it but hey. The kid demands, the kid receives.

I am pretty sure the updated the mold, because I found way better quality on this kit than I actually remember from building this thing the first time.

The clamps were of good use again.

I used the Chinese battery driven air brush again. It‘s so fast to color things with it. Then canopy masking and primer.

Prior to priming this, the kid wanted it to have the classic red 13 camo pattern, but he liked the light grey of the primer so much, that he declared the plane to be finished.

    Build time: ~2hours.

Man, third kit already done this year! I‘m on fire! Hahhaha

I have to finish my other kits and the VF-9 project some day. The kid is currently eating time. :)

    Nice choice for an aircraft.

Anyone else besides me find Dune (in general) to be a bit overrated? All nicely made films, but I'm not impressed by it as most people are.

Definitely overrated, but I still want to see the new one.

    Welp, this sucks:  https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/the-brothers-sun-cancel-netflix-michelle-yeoh-1235928223/amp/

Was a fun silly show with some enjoyable action sequences.

Kinda want a churro now.  Not a fancy, overly flavored one or some chocolate-glazed monstrosity.  Just a plain, old solid, tasty churro.

I kinda liked it. It had some issues, but still enjoyable. And I’m with you I’m on the churros.

They cut a minute of content from each episode specifically so they could have a longer opening theme, longer ending theme, and "next episode" previews. That's how they made it fill Japanese TV time slots.

That opening makes me feel like taking a nap. It’s such a snoozer, it should have been the ending

HBO/MAX's Raised by Wolves was a live action sci-fi series with similar alien world themes of Scavanger Reign that I enjoyed, but I guess it was too experimental for most audiences before it was cancelled.

I think the problem was that it went way off the rails and then took a wrong left and then found more rails to go off of and then caught on fire on the way down. It started off good though

The only property that has come remotely close to my interest in Macross is Superman/Justice League. I hope Gunn hits it out of the park for Superman Legacy and have a certain amount of optimism he will, but I didn't like the way Gunn addressed replacing Cavill by saying it was all these other guys at fault for screwing Cavill over as if he had no say in keeping the guy. It's pretty hard to find an actor, director, or writer who's as passionate about Superman as Cavill was. Most of these guys use the Superman license as a stepping stone for another project they'd rather be doing.

It’ll be alright. At least the new one can’t be as bad as the trash that was Man of Steel. Cavil is a great actor, but it’s too much of a call back to the failed snyderverse and it’s a better idea to recast with the reboot

Just finished SCAVENGERS REIGN on Max. One of the best sci-fi animated series I've watched in a very long time. Doubt there will be a second season tho.

I watched that one a while back. It’s rather underrated. At first I was having a hard time deciding on if I liked it, but then I found myself wanting to find out what was going to happen. It was rather interesting to see how these people survived on a planet that had so much of its life being some kind of symbiotic relationship either for good or extremely horrific.
Fired on Mars was another interesting one that took me a bit to decide whether I liked it or not. I hope Max brings more of these kinds of shows to their channel. It’s nice to see something different in animation
