The old cartoon had one of the most recognizable themes, and glad they chose to keep it but updated with punchier notes. Here's an extended cut.

It’s a pretty recognizable theme, but I always thought it was bad. I think it’s that cheap synth. Oddly in my rewatch there’s maybe three or four episodes that have a slightly different sound and are way better versions of the same theme.

Reminds me more of the Katoki gundam design. I guess now core fighter on this one. Looks like it’s more to show the cockpit than to be a removable fighter. Well I’ve personally always thought the core fighter was silly. Overall I think it looks better than the old one, but the joints showing through at the lower belly and lower back are a bit too obvious and should have been hidden better. My other complaint is that they could’ve done something else like the Alex or maybe a Gelgoog for the zeon stuff.

Back to this Zaku since over the past few days with all the excitement over the hg gundam from this series, I kinda forgot that the Zaku is for the main character and not the Gundam

Rewatching some scenes of the original film on Youtube. I totally forgot it was rated PG, lol.

Clash of the Titans was only pg. and that had nudity and beheadings and amputations and all kinds of violence. Then again Robocop was almost X rated. The whole rating thing was a bit of a mix back in the old days

You know, we really could use 1/6 figures of Roger Smith, R. Dorothy, Norman, Alex Rosewater, Angel, Schwartzwald, Alan Gabriel, Beck, Major Dan Dastun and the rest of the gang.

I also think it would be fun to have a line of the Megadeuses and other mechs in the series (like some of Beck's utter flops!).

I’m not big on the 1/6th thing, but I’d probably buy a Roger Smith without thinking too much about it.

I can never say Diminus of Megadeus without laughing.

An update on the modification I'm making to my old 1:100 scale Imai Armored Valkyrie. I'm adding ball joints to enhance articulation.

I always kinda liked the look of the armored parts on that kit. I’m curious about trying an odd kitbash between one of those and the wave kit. It would definitely be ditching a lot of parts and not sure if it would end up worth all the cutting, sanding and awkwardness. But I am oddly curious

If there's one thing I feel like I can routinely count on when a new creative team picks up years after the fact, it's retcons.

Pretty disappointing they decided to write in a romantic backstory between Rogue and Magneto. It's not original for this show, but it certainly wasn't hinted at in the 90s show.

I’m on season 4 and haven’t seen any of that yet. But I do think it would be strange to have a twenty something year old involved with a sixty or seventy or possibly eighty year old dude is a bit odd. Although Magneto is pretty fit for an old timer. Not sure on his exact age, but he looked at least ten if not a bit older when WWII was still going on

Well, I've only finished one part so far...

I'm adding the usual weathering and rust I'd expect to see on Quamzin's mecha.

Delicate chipping has been strategically applied to areas most likely to have suffered impacts.

However, I need some advice from @captain america before I go any further:

    post-cure.jpg.37f8440a6b991d5ec0d6b4cb18d25997.jpg

I realize these instructions are at least 15 years old now, and the chemical composition of the polymer resin used nowadays may have changed (assuming even the same brand was used for this run)...

Since I've managed to successfully assemble the model as it is (and it seems stable and secure), is it still imperative that I post-cure the polymer parts before painting?  Could omitting this crucial step result in the failure of load-bearing parts in the future?

    partslist.jpg.b6ef836b88f87cca6411e2ce1ebcee2e.jpg

Also, judging by the color and texture of the pieces I received, I'm not sure all the parts listed here were cast in polymer resin this time... 🤔

As I've cut, sanded, and primed parts for test–fitting and assembly, I've sometimes used a hair dryer to heat and reshape parts to ensure a proper fit; this is a typical part of the process for building garage kits, of course.  But if a few moments under a hair dryer is enough to soften the resin, won't FOUR HOURS in an oven cause irreparable damage? 🤕

Most of us here have probably never "baked" resin parts before, and might be a little reticent to do so with such an expensive kit. 😬

    waxpaper.jpg.56e322dc5cf3838662ce7f49b8970f7a.jpg

Additionally, this may only apply to me in Japan, but I've never seen wax paper here.  Would aluminium foil ensure even distribution of heat in the same manner?

I think the wax paper is to prevent sticking. You may just be able to coat the foil with some dish soap, but I’m no expert

I'm looking forward to this.  I really liked the Beetlejuice cartoon as a kid, so I tried watching the movie and I just thought it was weird at the time.  However, a few years back I recently decided to watch it with my wife as an adult and loved everything about it- the dark comedy, Keaton's brilliant performance, the slick visuals, and the sheer originality.  It's a cliche to say that they don't make movies like that anymore, but that was really was my first thought after finishing it.

I was the other way around. I loved the movie when it first came out, and the cartoon seemed very odd

Are the animated X-Men shows more representative of the "feel" of the comics?  My only experience with X-Men are the movies...I think I prefer the movie versions of these characters...

It’s kinda the super kidsy version of the feel of the comics at the time. It makes a few assumptions that you are already familiar with the characters

Glad Bandai is keeping with Kotobukiya's "ACs are highly-customizable" design ethos.

I still think it is funny that Kotobukiya is reissuing their old AC1-5 kits at the same time Bandai's putting out new AC6 kits.

I always felt like the Kotobukiya kits were a bit overly complicated. Lots of little parts with tons of seams in awkward spots. Like a joint piece that had a seam that had to be covered by more parts with more seams that had another layer that had more seams with a little greebly thing that attached and also had seams

30mm is a reference to the socket hole on the kits that makes most accessories and add ons universal across Bandai's model kit brands as well as some other company's like Kotobukiya and Max Factory as well as the kits being relatively quick and easy to build hence the name 30 Minute Missions.

It absolutely 100% has nothing to do with the 30mm scale wargaming hobby.

That being said there is a relatively new game called MechaTop that integrates 1/144, 1/72, and 1/100 kits into a table top game that was inspired by Gundam Build Fighters a little while back.

I always just assumed that with the simple construction that it meant that it would only take 30 minutes to build. I guess I was wrong on that one
