When did a VF-9 show up?

The computer and electronics super geek thread

So my mother breaks her phone (Samsung Galaxy S6) yesterday by dropping it. I drop it off at a computer repair place because I can't so much as remove the backplate to get at the internals, give her mine (LG G3) to use for this afternoon. Thunderstorm comes in, she's out in the yard with a nephew grilling and when the downpour starts they make a mad dash inside. Later, I ask where my phone is, and she swears she had it in her sweater pocket. I call my phone and, sure enough, I hear the ringtone out in the darkness amongst the grass. It had taken an entire thunderstorm and was still totally functional. I rib my mom about managing to break two phones in two days, but I can tell she feels guilty about it because she tries a bit too hard to give me "advice" about drying it off. Aw, mom. It's okay, I got this. On a related note, I'm amazed this phone was able to survive all that without just frying itself. The Otterbox case it was in managed - somehow - to keep water away from the backplate, and the backplate itself managed to keep water out of the internals. And this phone isn't designed to be water resistant. You can take off that backplate with your fingers. Even the charging ports and other points of entry were remarkably watertight. I was blown away. -

Yeah, the episode itself is great, it's just the 1337 that made my eyes roll so far back in their sockets that I could see my brain synapses firing. Yes, yes, and yes. ...unless the kids make me. -

It's a 1/144-scale model kit, and yes, it's the newest kit using the newest tooling and molds of the Zaku II. I think there may have been one or two more variants since its release, but this one I think includes everything that came with every Origin Zaku II kit before it. I don't think the variants that come after (if they've come out yet) are as complete as this one is, though they might include small little exclusive bits and pieces.- 6025 replies

I have a confession to make: I don't have and have never had any strong connection to G1 Transformers or the movie. My childhood trauma was the Zentraedi glassing Earth, not Prime giving the... All-Spark?... away. -

I know I still haven't. I really should fix that... -
I'm like 60% sure that the Super parts only ever came out as TWE items, meaning they would never have had them in stock.

Does he have any familiarity with Marvel superheroes? If so, I think he'll like it. If he doesn't know much about the movies, he might ask some more questions than usual, but you can head this off at the pass by taking him out of school for a day and planting him in front of the TV for all ~20 movies. That's neither feasible nor healthy, you say? Well then, I don't know what else to tell you, get him with the program. Seriously, though, as long as he knows generally what leads into this movie - mainly he can recognize the main Avengers and Thanos - then I think he'll be fine. It's ultimately up to your discretion, though, obviously. Oh, bah humbug. Every generation needs their Transformers The Movie. -
^ Before anyone asks, that's a modified 1/72 model kit.

Man, they're always the best. Have been for DECADES now.

There is none. Bandai have just gotten, shall we say, "creative" about it.

I don't know if it's fair to call what the MCU is "merely" "comic book movies." X-Men is a comic book movie. Blade is a comic book movie. League of Extraordinary Gentleman is a comic book movie. Logan, for as good as it is, is a comic book movie. And Justice League, for as bad as it is, is a comic book movie. What the MCU has become - and I said this in the Infinity War thread - is more akin to the best mythical epics. And I mean epic in the traditional sense, not the "really really good" hyperbolic sense. I mean, yes, they're comic book movies, but calling them that as if that's all they are is grossly undervaluing them. -

Just got back from seeing it with the nephews. -
What was the quote of the email again? I seem to recall it saying that there "may" be stock shortages and that they [HLJ] "may" have to cancel the orders of those customers to whom the warning emails were sent.

vf-31 siegfried WIP: Alternate Weapons Pods for VF-31
kajnrig replied to Sanity is Optional's topic in The Workshop!
Mostly removing some of the tampo that Bandai got a bit overzealous on - the big "UN Spacy" on the wing, for instance. The feet also look really awkward in the promo pics, and the front of the chest doesn't match the original design. Depending on if they look as awkward in person as in pictures, I might have to scratch-build some feet and/or putty/repaint the chest. But for sure some of the tampo needs to go. Probably. -

Nice job. For my part, I'll be honest, the 31A fiasco really got me down on doing anything with my 1/72 kits. Maybe when I have the DX YF-19 in hand, it'll rekindle my desire. That toy has some issues of its own that I'll be looking to fix... -
If they were ONLY making DX Valks, then sure, cutting production and creating artificial scarcity would be dumb as sin. But Bandai probably doesn't have a single factory dedicated to just the production of Valks; they have to ration their time wisely, moving from one hot property to the next. They can only make so many before having to move on. There's something to be said for Bandai having certainly enough capital to make more production facilities in order to better meet high demand, but until/unless they do, they'll have to make do and indeed are making do with the current business model.

I would imagine so. If not, it should be easy-peasy modding the kit.
