  1. I have a confession to make: I don't have and have never had any strong connection to G1 Transformers or the movie. My childhood trauma was the Zentraedi glassing Earth, not Prime giving the... All-Spark?... away.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I'm like 60% sure that the Super parts only ever came out as TWE items, meaning they would never have had them in stock.
  3. Does he have any familiarity with Marvel superheroes? If so, I think he'll like it. If he doesn't know much about the movies, he might ask some more questions than usual, but you can head this off at the pass by taking him out of school for a day and planting him in front of the TV for all ~20 movies. That's neither feasible nor healthy, you say? Well then, I don't know what else to tell you, get him with the program. Seriously, though, as long as he knows generally what leads into this movie - mainly he can recognize the main Avengers and Thanos - then I think he'll be fine. It's ultimately up to your discretion, though, obviously. Oh, bah humbug. Every generation needs their Transformers The Movie.
  4. ^ Before anyone asks, that's a modified 1/72 model kit.

Man, they're always the best. Have been for DECADES now.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

There is none. Bandai have just gotten, shall we say, "creative" about it.
  7. I don't know if it's fair to call what the MCU is "merely" "comic book movies." X-Men is a comic book movie. Blade is a comic book movie. League of Extraordinary Gentleman is a comic book movie. Logan, for as good as it is, is a comic book movie. And Justice League, for as bad as it is, is a comic book movie. What the MCU has become - and I said this in the Infinity War thread - is more akin to the best mythical epics. And I mean epic in the traditional sense, not the "really really good" hyperbolic sense. I mean, yes, they're comic book movies, but calling them that as if that's all they are is grossly undervaluing them.

What was the quote of the email again? I seem to recall it saying that there "may" be stock shortages and that they [HLJ] "may" have to cancel the orders of those customers to whom the warning emails were sent.

  10. Mostly removing some of the tampo that Bandai got a bit overzealous on - the big "UN Spacy" on the wing, for instance. The feet also look really awkward in the promo pics, and the front of the chest doesn't match the original design. Depending on if they look as awkward in person as in pictures, I might have to scratch-build some feet and/or putty/repaint the chest. But for sure some of the tampo needs to go. Probably.
  11. You're not wrong.
  12. Nice job. For my part, I'll be honest, the 31A fiasco really got me down on doing anything with my 1/72 kits. Maybe when I have the DX YF-19 in hand, it'll rekindle my desire. That toy has some issues of its own that I'll be looking to fix...

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

If they were ONLY making DX Valks, then sure, cutting production and creating artificial scarcity would be dumb as sin. But Bandai probably doesn't have a single factory dedicated to just the production of Valks; they have to ration their time wisely, moving from one hot property to the next. They can only make so many before having to move on. There's something to be said for Bandai having certainly enough capital to make more production facilities in order to better meet high demand, but until/unless they do, they'll have to make do and indeed are making do with the current business model.
  14. I would imagine so. If not, it should be easy-peasy modding the kit.
  15. Are you going to relocate/otherwise reintegrate the ventral fin, or is that going the way of the dodo?
  16. I got it, I just thought it was so mind-numbingly stupid as to not warrant an acknowledgement. This is like Spartan 1337 in that Halo anime.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

100% this. There's nothing more embarrassing for a toy company than seeing stacks of their toys sitting on store shelves for weeks and months on end. That being said, considering the demand they're seeing from fans, they could stand to schedule second or third production runs. Even Nintendo, ever the fan of artificial scarcity, ramped up production of their recent consoles in order to better meet consumer demand.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

I would say it's just a matter of time and luck. I placed mine in that 5:55-6:00 JST early preorder window, received my confirmation email ~50 minutes later, and haven't received a cancellation email yet.

Looks enough like a VF-14 to me. A slightly better screencap showing more of the nose:
  21. Why is the TG in a P-Bandai box? Is it like a clear version, maybe it's the TG2? EDIT: Also what line/series are those 1/144 toys and how's the quality on them?
