The number of unlockables and the incredible prices to unlock them - 40,000 points, 50k, etc... 440k for one particular plane... I just have a sinking feeling that you'll receive 1k, 5k max per mission, and to "speed up" the unlocks you'll have the "option" of buying in-game currency.

Red Dead Redemption 2. Coming 10/26/2018.
kajnrig replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Weird, because "@Tking22 has put this studio up on a pedestal and worships at its feet" was what I said, and you seemed to take issue with that. I mean, if that's all you wanted to say, you could have done exactly that to begin with. Instead we have this... bizarre back-and-forth. Eh. Anyway, I hope you're enjoying the game, I guess.- 34 replies

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
kajnrig replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I too feel bad for anyone having to follow Yoko Kanno. I feel like a second season COULD do exactly that... if only the first season didn't exist. The execution of that first season is just so bad that it poisons absolutely everything and everyone involved in it. Pretending the first one never happened and starting from scratch seems like the only way to salvage these characters. -

None taken whatsoever. I don't even see how this statement could possibly be construed as offensive. That said, I hope you understand that I'm not saying I think they're a bad developer, or that their games are bad. I just generally don't care very much about them. ...no one said anything about the "amount of work and love that go into their games," though I'm sure many an indie and mid-size dev could give them a run for their money on that front. Again: Pedestal. See, but that's not what you said at all. You didn't say, "Look at the totality of the reviews and how the positive vastly outweighs the negative." You said, "Why not just actually read some of the 10/10 and 5/5 reviews it's getting." The implication being that 1) one should only read glowing puff pieces, and that will give them a clear picture of the quality of a game; and 2) that perfect-score reviews don't have any criticism to offer. "It's a 10/10 obviously," you add, having not even played it yourself yet. You've already made up your mind on how good it is going to be. There might be a day one, unpatchable bug that renders it completely unplayable. But it's a 10/10 obviously. The story might be complete garbage, and the mechanics might be cumbersome and annoying, and the game might be too tedious. But it's a 10/10 obviously. The day and night and weather cycle might be the most frustrating thing you've ever encountered, to the point that you throw your controller at the screen when your character gets sucked into a tornado for the tenth time in five minutes. But it's a 10/10. Obviously. Again: Pedestal. I'm sorry, but this gave me a good laugh. I don't think anyone thought you were being offensive, just... weirdly confrontational. (I said "defensive," but I meant confrontational.) Again: Pedestal. AAAANYWAY. If they do end up remastering the original RDR for PC, I might finally give it a shot. All this bluster and hullabaloo makes me wonder what the big deal is. It'll probably be like Ghost in the Shell, where I binge the entire thing in a night or two and emerge on the other side like, ".....OHHHHHH, so that's what the fuss was all about." (I've been spoiled on the ending already, though, so... oh well.)- 34 replies

I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm... But moreover, methinks you've intentionally put your blinders on, or maybe you're doing the internet equivalent of covering your ears and shouting "LALALALALALALALA" really loud. Or, more likely, you've weirdly put this gaming studio on a headscratchingly high pedestal and worship at its feet. It's getting universal praise? Every Rockstar game before it has gotten universal praise? It's revolutionary? Every game before it was revolutionary? It's "obviously" a 10/10? No offense, but that's a weirdly defensive response to a joke. And even if @davidwhangchoi wasn't joking, that's still a weirdly defensive response. Maybe you ARE taking crazy pills. Rockstar aren't god's gift to gaming or anything (especially not with the whole shebang a week or two ago about 100-hour work weeks). Your fixation on its review score is... wow. I've never actually encountered that on the internet until now. @davidwhangchoi was probably playing it for a joke, but you seem to be taking it inordinately seriously. ---- I never thought Rockstar, the GTA series, or LA Noire, were all that great. /shrug With GTA it's entirely likely just due to the sandbox. Like I said, I've never liked sandbox games very much. (I had a blast with Spider-Man and the first Assassin's Creed, but the former is the exception that proves the rule, and the latter isn't really a sandbox game IMO.) LA Noire, though... I just could never see what everyone else seemed to see. Maybe I'M the one taking crazy pills. It's not even a sandbox game, not really. It's a sandbox with nothing but sand. People go on and on about the facial capture and the story and this and that, and I'm just like... yeah, ok I guess. To me it sounds as uninteresting as frakking David Cage going on about more triangles = more emotions. The most fun I ever had with a Rockstar game was the original Max Payne... and I played the shitty version on PS2. Playing (the better versions of) it again, some UI and gameplay elements don't hold up, but it's still a great cheesy little comic book of a time. And that's almost entirely thanks to Remedy, not Rockstar. So again, if you were really hyped for this game and it's finally come out after nearly a decade, then awesome. I'm hype for you. But for me, personally, I just don't have the same emotional investment, so seeing it dominating the ENTIRE news cycle does get a bit tiring. I just want my Ace Combat infos and my Kingdom Hearts trailers, I don't wanna wade through tons and tons of Red Dead Retweets to get to them.- 34 replies

The lack of shading is what turns the white into a monotonous blob. I doubt Bandai will go so far as to pre/post-shade it for you (especially since they won't even panel line them), but that would definitely do wonders for the look.

kajnrig replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've never understood the fascination people seem to have with this franchise (or with Rockstar games in general). The first one doesn't seem that particularly ground-breaking or revolutionary, certainly not the way, say, GTA 3 was or RE4 was. It just seems like a Western-themed GTA, and this one doesn't seem any different. (That said, I was never a fan of sandbox games, anyway, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt I guess.) Oh well. Cheers to everyone hyped for this game.- 34 replies

Oh, is that Kung Fu Hustle? Some other Chinese-only film of his? I know I've seen this movie before, but I don't think it was KFH... Anyway, it's certainly an apt comparison.

Does anyone know what those "ring fins" attached to the boosters do, if anything? Ick. The more I see it the less I like it. It reminds me of the Full Armor Unicorn, where more and more is just slapdash cobbled together. I think I'd like it more if they did something as simple as move the missile pods on the boosters closer to where the boosters mount to the wing roots, and placed either on top of or on the inner sides of the boosters to give the Valk a more compact appearance. Ideally, the "Tornado" cannons would be excised entirely, freeing up space on the back for ordinance and allowing the "Stampede" chainguns to be the big gun upgrades.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
kajnrig replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I know, I didn't bother repeating this point because you made it pretty succinctly the first time around. I don't mean to imply that sexual violence is "more extreme" than torture, forced cannibalism, etc., if that's how it was taken. -
None on me, but perusing myfigurecollection got me these. Hope they're good enough for you. Volume 1 (Freyja, Mirage, Kaname) https://myfigurecollection.net/item/416003 https://myfigurecollection.net/item/416002 https://myfigurecollection.net/item/416001 Volume 2 (Mikumo, Reina, Makina) https://myfigurecollection.net/item/440652 https://myfigurecollection.net/item/440651 https://myfigurecollection.net/item/440650 And while searching for those, I came across this. What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
kajnrig replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Besides what Seto already has to say... ...there's also the fact that the only ones with specifically sexual violence heaped upon them are the female characters. (I mean, given how much the show fetishizes everything else, it could be argued that EVERYONE gets sexual violence heaped upon them, but the point still stands.) The show/manga/novel seem to take extra pleasure in depicting what the female characters go through. The most explicit we ever get with Warrior dude is a close-up of a goblin taking his hand off. Contrast that against shots of the goblins visibly stripping the girls naked (convenient censoring aside), stabbing one in the uterus, multiple close-ups of the girls' horrified faces, and yes, the just-short-of-hentai-territory rape. Not to mention more and more scenes of violence specifically enacted upon women immediately following that (all cavalierly thrown in while framing the titular GS as Badass McHunter Guy). -
By the by, I dunno if I eventually followed up on this post, but neither are slated for release. They were put on display to measure interest in just such a thing. They would be re-issues of the old S/Ex-S Gundam kits, molded in these specific colors, and would include the relevant revised parts created for the Deep Striker (shoulders, etc.). I'm not sure if it would be an all-in-one kit that includes parts to build either of the two, or if Bandai would do like the originals and release each separately.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
kajnrig replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
From watching the first episode and reading up the summaries of the rest from everyone else here, the show seems to be coasting almost entirely on the extremity of its controversial content. The characters, the world, the story, all are remarkably generic, only deviating from formula when they need to prop up the titular Goblin Slayer himself. It's rather amateurish, like bad self-insert fanfiction. Here's this world where everybody is incompetent and/or clueless about the real threat except for ME, I know what's really going on, and only I have properly prepared myself to tackle it. The fact that no other characters get any interesting character development (based on everyone's summaries here), the derivative Dungeons and Dragons world, the unpleasant undercurrent of misogyny running through the entire thing... It's "I was studying the blade" levels of masturbatory fantasy. Even the GS's backstory is all sorts of edgelord-tier ridiculousness. It reminds me of the bosses from Metal Gear Solid 4, with their backstories handling the theme of wartime trauma with all the subtlety and grace of a cudgel smashing against a brick wall. And it's not like the OVAs you mention didn't have their share of the same problematic elements. The anime industry is chock full of Go Nagais and Kentaro Miuras who've created amazing works that are equally as... messy. What separates Goblin Slayer from something like, say, Berserk, is that Berserk is more than self-insert fanfiction. Or, as chyll2 puts it, GS is "fanservice dark" and not much more. -
