Now you mention it, I wonder what the M7 VF-19s could potentially look like in a more "realistic" style, with their bulbous shapes pared back to more closely resemble the YF-19/VF-19A they're ostensibly built on.

The computer and electronics super geek thread

Riser cable quality has been the bane of my existence. I tried my hand at a "sandwich-style" SFF build a few years ago for a friend, and the riser cable ended up being the cause of all manner of issues, from BSODs to WiFi outages. And that was a 3.0 riser, I can only imagine how much more finnicky they are now that the standard has jumped up two revisions and quadruple the bandwidth. -
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madoverlord/macross-ii-lovers-again-alus-edition/posts/4222477 Update #25 Should we do an Ishtar Standee? Hello everyone. Before we get to the main topic of this update, a quick progress report. Preproduction on the subtitles is almost completed, we're just in the endless paranoid rechecking stage. However, the color correction and HDR grading work has taken more time than expected, and that coupled with delays in getting the new package artwork completed (which we need before we can print the artbooks) means we're probably looking at an early spring release instead of end-of-year. As is our tradition when our original schedule inevitably blows up in our faces, we're working on making additions to the set as compensation for the delay. And that leads into our main topic. As you will recall from the last update, Mikimoto-sensei had done some incredible artwork that was originally intended to be turned into a patch (side-note: Sasha is doing her usual obsessive job trying to ensure that every stitch goes in exactly the right place). This artwork wasn't a full-body portrait because that wasn't going to be needed for the patch. In any case, a lot of people who saw the artwork said it'd make a great standee, and when we mentioned this to Mikimoto-sensei, he said he really, really would like us to make one. Of course, our response was “Yes, Mikimoto-sensei. Whatever you want, Mikimoto-sensei! We'll need a full-body version, Mikimoto-sensei.” And look what just arrived... This is the first new Ishtar illustration that Mikimoto-sensei has created in many years, so it's something special and we definitely want to turn it into a physical object like a standee. However, here's the thing with standee production; there are minimum order quantities and a tooling fee for making a mold. This means that the project is only viable if we get 250+ orders. So that means it's time for one of our Backer Polls! Our tentative plan is to make either a ~6.5" (1/10 scale) or ~10.6" (1/6 scale) standee (or both if there is sufficient demand). The estimated prices are $20 and $30, respectively, plus shipping. However, as we are standee n00bs, we'd love suggestions from the standee experts out there, so let us know what you think. We'd also love suggestions about the base graphics, our current best ideas are the Marduk symbol and/or some space-themed graphics. You can find the poll here! Best, Robert & Natsumi

Anyone have the dimensions of the art cards and Sharon Apple concert promo poster? I think I saw 12"x12" somewhere earlier but don't know for sure...- 222 replies

IIRC in-lore its radical new engines provided so much thrust that supplementary boosters were deemed unnecessary, so its Fast Pack was designed around augmenting its existing systems (more missiles/fuel/verniers) and being able to be used in-atmosphere unlike prior/future Supers. Of course, the VF-19 just five years later would get huge honking booster Fast Packs, and Isamu's retrofitted VF-19 also got those -25 Super boosters jury-rigged onto it... Meh. I like it better this way anyway.
-
Fixed that for you. Seriously though, even though I don't usually take part in all the frantic box art theory-crafting that other people do... I REALLY hope this is hinting at a 1/48 YF-21 finally coming out.

Just a quick FYI in case anyone's interested, and since the discussion is currently topical, I'm looking to offload some kits in the FS section. 6 kits, $100 OBO + shipping Bandai Helldiverr Moderoid Helldiver Moderoid Ingram + Bulldog Moderoid Peacemaker Moderoid Type Zero Moderoid Griffon
-
That makes sense, I keep forgetting the name Imai. Thanks for the correction.
-
I'm not sure if this is the same kit - the box art are different, but it's still the Arii kit (re-released by Bandai), still 1/100, etc. https://1999.co.jp/image/10189110

Macross Plus Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Release Thread

I rather enjoy the artbook, translation errors and all. Lots of fun insights, like Itano reminiscing about pulling an unsanctioned flight maneuver and blacking out. After this many decades dealing with the language barrier, I've come to the understanding that these things are just inevitable; sometimes it's even the case that the creator/interviewee/etc. are the ones staunchly refusing a translation fix, despite how innocuous or inoffensive or logical it might seem to an English-speaking audience. Remember, Shinji is the "Third Children" and all that.- 222 replies

On the other hand, they seemed to have issues with my card, so it seems I've been kicked back to the end of the line for now. Woe, woe!- 222 replies

Ah, I see. I wondered about that decal, though it might just be fancy fluff. And yeah, I figured it could go there as well. I took a bet on a potential official product being a MB instead of a model kit; I gave it about even odds of being either.

Dunno if this is the better place to ask or the Gunpla thread... or the Gundam show thread... but whatever: GundamModelCenter recently showed off a Daban "Astray Destiny Gundam" model kit. Is that just Daban mashing the two different runner sets together, or was there actually a canon/Bandai-released Astray [X] Frame model kit/MB/etc. that included a Destiny Gundam backpack?

I mean, my bed IS taking up a lot of space that goes unused most of the day...

Ah, you see, that's because in the interim they decided to update the model and will be releasing it in 1/72 scale. Look, let a man dream.
-
Yep, same here. Noice.

A fighter mode kit would require some modding. A battroid mode kit would also require some modding. You wouldn't have to fold the backpack, but you would have to contend with the transformed forward fuselage. No matter how you tackle it, you'll have to cut SOMETHING with a saw to make the mod work. May as well just cut up the kit you get in the box and save yourself $20. I imagine Hasegawa will issue a standalone Gerwalk kit in the future with the necessary new parts.

Oh, I'm aware of what the Full Saber is, I just thought for sure it must have been done in MB form by now, what with how popular Setsuna's suits are and how many variations there are of the Exia and 00. The Qant basically only has the Full Saber as a variant... and maybe the alien tech one, I forget what that one's called. But I guess I was wrong. In design art and all physical renditions of the Full Saber, the GN Sword IV Full Saber consists of - the base piece that connects to the mounting arm and houses the main handle - the katar piece that makes up the main blade of the FS and resembles the GN Katar of the 00 7S(/G) - 3x daggers, two flanking the katar katar on either side of the base piece, and one on the underside of the FS next to the Quanta's right arm This version has two daggers on the underside, in the same general area but offset on either side of center, whereas the original one was directly on the center line of the FS. It's a bit of a head-scratcher that they would bother with such a design revision. It doesn't look better. It doesn't look worse. As @mog_kupo demonstrates, it's hardly even noticeable. Perplexing.

Hope people don't mind me going back a page to ask about Has the Full Saber not been done before now in Metal Build? If it has, what's the deal with this one having that extra fourth dagger? Just another typical Metal Build flourish, or is it supposed to be an actual new variant?

Speaking of: Mighty kind of them to include a copy of their Macross display stand. I would have thought they would include just their usual three-part clear stand, but on second thought, that stand barely lifts the VF-1 Gerwalk off the ground; it wouldn't have been adequate for the VF-0.

Bit of column A, bit of column B. Column A: Sexual assault allegations should always be taken seriously. The two allegations are by ladies who don't seem to have anything much to gain from airing this dirty laundry. Column B: The allegations surfaced in an incredibly suspect source (and literally nowhere else) - a podcast helmed and produced by transphobic individuals who have personally targeted and been criticized by Gaiman for his trans support. Gaiman, for his part, says he has been fully cooperative with relevant investigators. The whole thing has the stink of ulterior motives to it, so I'm remaining highly skeptical of every single perspective on it. Would it surprise me if he were a weird sex creep? No. Would it surprise me if the accusers were lying? No. And everything in between. Regardless, I'm happy to see this still coming out. Hopefully it gets to a third season.

spare parts VF-25F 1/72 Scale messiah valkyrie alto custom BANDAI
kajnrig replied to jerick's topic in Model kits
That's a common break point on that kit, and unfortunately there aren't any simple fixes. You can drill out the detail and insert plaplate shaped to match, or sand away the fin altogether. (IIRC it's molded a bit bigger than it "should be" so that it can double as a peg.) If you intend to display it in Battroid mode, you can replace that structural fin altogether with something like a brass rod to pin the two sections together. -
Yeah, that's why I no longer feel any qualms whatsoever about buying bootleg if and when the fancy strikes me.
