What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
kajnrig replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think you'll really like Demi-chan. I remember posting about it a while ago, and it was pretty charming and cute. -
Rewatched The Martian today. Still a great movie, glad I went out and bought it on Bluray on a whim last night.

Sigh. The movie tried, it really tried, but there was just no working around the Stephen King-ness of that adult arc, I guess. There's a solid movie underneath all the extraneous detail, but the extraneous details do really kill the movie for me. Probably the biggest blunder of the movie is that unlike the first one, none of the tension from one scene transitions really well into the next. There's no real build-up like the first one has, and the ending is... kind of silly, actually. There were some unintentionally funny moments throughout that especially ruined the mood. There's potential here, they've just been 0 for 2 so far. The acting for some characters was pretty inspired, though. Lots of people are heaping praise on Bill Hader, and he definitely puts in one of the better efforts this movie.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

Yo, what a blast from the past! I remember having a lot of fun with Lost Universe way back when. Not sure how it ended, though, so I must have dropped off of it somewhere along the line. -
So I noticed this on Amiami: https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=TOY-RBT-02718-R Is there anything that makes the "Sayonara no Tsubasa Version" Armored Pack stand out from the original Armored Pack?
-
Um, not sure how you read that, but he said the movie deals with toxic masculinity, not that it "has too much" toxic masculinity... Big ol' whoooosh moment there, I'm afraid.

Agreed. Ironically, the VF Girl herself looks way better than any of the others ever did.

Basically this. Plus it's a nice looking color scheme. Now I just need to acquire the Makina one like I told myself I would.

Gundam Figure Thread - Newtype GN-002
kajnrig replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ah, thanks for the correction. I mistakenly assumed that 1) the earlier release was identical to the MG Origin (ie the Early Type) and did not include parts to create the Late Type design, and 2) the newer release included parts only for the Late Type unit, and did not include parts to create the Early Type design. My bad!- 6025 replies

"Get up, Kylo. It's the first day of Vader School and you're gonna be late!" and off he goes, bumping into a toast-in-her-mouth Rey along the way? Given how schizophrenic the trilogy has been, I wouldn't be at all surprised...

One of the trailers showed the helmet being repaired, so I think it's pretty clear he'll be wearing it again, and thereby undoing all the characterization he received in the last movie. hurraaaay...

The Matrix Resurrections (What is The Matrix 4?)
kajnrig replied to TangledThorns's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Matrix, or at least its incarnation as of the movies, explicitly wasn't a paradise in order to better suit the people being plugged into it. The first Matrix was a paradise, and apparently failed because of it. Smith explains as much in the first movie, and the Architect does as well in the last.- 287 replies

Gundam Figure Thread - Newtype GN-002
kajnrig replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
According to the wikia, the Origin 78-02 has - 2x "Shoulder Magnum" (left side) - 1x "Gatling gun" (right side) http://dalong.net/reviews/mg/m190/p/m190_57.jpg Seems this release is more substantial than just a recolor as I'd originally thought. The earlier release apparently represents the "Early Type" of the design (probably used early in the manga), and this newest one is the "Late Type" design (probably used later in the manga). The "Late Type" replaces the chest armaments with those headlight-looking things, and swaps the shoulder armor for ones that have a similar "headlight" accoutrement, as well as whatever other minor detail differences exist between the two.- 6025 replies

Remember how the first movie was a complete repudiation of the badass American super soldier fantasy that its sequels would become? Hmmm... The dialogue is so generic and the plot looks so generic and... I dunno, I was just really expecting more. And speaking of plot, if my assumption holds true and it's about Rambo pulling a Liam Neeson after the Mexican cartel kidnaps his American niece to sell into sex slavery... hoo boy. One look at a certain former billionaire's rap sheet would tell you an entirely different and entirely more truthful story... But setting that aside, that really is just the most boring dialogue you could have ever put to a trailer. That's honestly the only thing what did it for me. It's so bad, in both trailers, so mind-numbing.

The Matrix Resurrections (What is The Matrix 4?)
kajnrig replied to TangledThorns's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The sequels are some of the dumbest, most up their own butts, overstuffed messes of movies ever. But good goddamn if they aren't still the best live-action anime adaptations until Speed Racer took that honor. The 100 Smiths fight? Great. The massive movie-long battle against the clock with drills vs gorilla-looking mecha vs footsoldiers vs squiddies vs the Hammer? Awesome. The Matrix Saiyan fight? ...okay, yeah, that one's not great, but also in retrospect I kind of love it. The movies aren't that good, for sure, but damn if they didn't make the most of their insane budget. And that first one still stands the test of time. I'd been feeling a bit nostalgic for ht series; I'm totally in for a 4th movie, maybe one last hurrah.- 287 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

Saw Millennium Actress in theater on Tuesday. God, that movie is still such the best. The translator/team of translators failed to check the subtitles on a handful of occasions, though, and the translation itself was a bit... fuzzy... also on a handful of occasions. I brought two friends along and I was honestly a bit nervous about whether they'd have a good time or not, This isn't typically the kind of movie we go to the theaters for. But they both really enjoyed it. I was glad they did. Apparently it's being remastered for Bluray? I can't wait. -
Gundam Figure Thread - Newtype GN-002
kajnrig replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Did you mean to ask that in the gunpla thread? Or is there a new "build it yourself" figure that came out recently? Either way, Mineshima makes some tools that will get you where you need to go. Their nippers are pretty basic, but they'll work well enough for long enough, and they're cheap. I don't know about Amazon, but HobbyLink Japan has a pretty extensive catalog of tools: https://hlj.com/search/go?w=*&af=selectmanufacturer:mineshima- 6025 replies
