Suicide Squad, in theaters Aug. 5, 2016

But all that said, it certainly isn't DC's WORST modern superhero movie. That would have to be a toss-up between Green Lantern and BvS.- 242 replies

This doesn't address my point, which has less to do with the sequential progression of events so much as the reasoning for having the scene play out that way at all, and moreover the decision to shoot/direct/frame it in the way that they did. It was plainly obvious to me as well that- 242 replies

So... yeah. Long story short, I've decided I won't see any future DC movies unless someone pays for my ticket and dinner. I don't get how DC can so consistently demonstrate such a fundamental misunderstanding of their own franchise characters. They decide that a simple flashback to a capture sequence should involve Batman bloodying Harley's nose and then passionately kissing her less than twenty seconds later. I just... God, that's gross.- 242 replies

Good thing you did, too. If I remember correctly, the original AA came bundled with Games for Windows Live. Since that DRM is now defunct, you wouldn't have been able to install the game at all. ...at least as far as I last heard. I'm sure you can download a modified installer or something to get around it.

Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 18 - READ 1st POST
kajnrig replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Lol I'll admit I'm more interested in him as a sort of romantic comedy protagonist. His infatuation with Walkure, and especially his reaction to them last(?) episode, resembles a 12-year old's first foray into puberty, when the last vestiges of "Ew, cooties!" clash with "Why does looking at this make my willie hard?" Could also be that he's gay, but whatever it is, he's clearly primed to go on a romantic adventure. I'm also curious about Windermeran life stages. It seems like they're more or less the exact same as humans, and with the same timing, no less, but then their late 20s come around and they burn through the final stages of life within a year or five. It's rather odd, to be honest. With such short lifespans, you wonder how they've managed to develop societally in a way that even remotely resembles mankind's cultures. I wonder if Bogue has a wife, and if he does, what his home life with her is like. ...or maybe Windermere IV's orbit is just super long, and a year for them lasts some 900 days. -

You know, you all are writing essays about practicality and whatnot, and all I think is I'd add: The Kaname/Arad/Messer triangle is interesting. The history of Windermere-Human meeting is interesting. Heck, the history of Ragnan-Human meeting is interesting. Mirage's black sheep story is interesting. Why is there a sense of Bogue as being impressive and/or an "unsung hero," as you call it? There's been similar sentiments made by others as well, and I haven't paid enough attention to the Aerial Knights to say the same. -
Already on Order Stop again. I had no intention of getting it, but geesh you folks work fast...

I should mention that the busts don't come with stands for the VFs (or at least the pics suggest they don't). You have to buy an Action Base 1 and then mount the kit and the bust to it. It would have been nice if they came with even just a simple arm to pair up a VF.
-
Yes they are. Someone asked about the gold calfs, and yes they're golden. They're the only parts that use gold-ish plastic in the kit. Link to pics (doesn't allow hotlinking): http://dalong.net/review/etc/md01/p/md01_j_leg.jpg I didn't care at all for the 31F until recently, but I certainly do now, and it was the head that did it for the most part. It reminds me of some of the designs from Armored Core - similarly angular heads (and also designed by Shoji Kawamori). The only criticism I'd have is that I wish it were made of translucent plastic, maybe with a grill texture molded in or as a separate part. Because seriously, look at this sweetness:

I'd rather see Arad's 1/72 with Kaname's bust, but this looks alright, I guess...

Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 18 - READ 1st POST
kajnrig replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Agreed, so much. I didn't care much for him before this episode, but dude knows how to warm the cockles of my heart. That's kind of the point, though. They get core character billing but background character characterization. I imagine there must be a bit of that in the AKB0048 anime as well, and in Idolmaster and its ilk. I can understand their inclusion from a marketing perspective, but as far as telling a good story goes they're chaff that should have been removed ahead of time. For my part, I see all of it as simply a whole lot of wasted potential. Everyone could have been worked on a little more; everyone starts out with an interesting premise. I would have liked to see this show in its prototype, competing air show stage. As for Kawamori, didn't he note somewhere somewhen that he wanted to avoid romance entirely? -
They'll hold up to multiple transformations much better than the old VF-25s. The choice and number of materials (lighter polystyrene and sturdy ABS, and fewer/lighter parts), as well as the engineering (smarter design and more locking sections), makes for probably Bandai's best "toy" kit ever. I transformed mine half a dozen times before selling it, and it still went back into fighter mode just fine. The gaps were perhaps more noticeable, more "used"-looking, but certainly nothing very far from how they started. I really can't stress how well thought-out this kit was. Bandai set out to make an affordable, playable, transformable kit, and they accomplished that goal in spades. It has many serious flaws as a kit, and as a toy, but as an amalgamation of the two, it is Bandai's best effort to date. Floppiness is inevitable, but the aforementioned choice/number of materials and engineering certainly won't accelerate the process, if that's what you're worried about. As for build time, it shouldn't take very long. A couple hours a night over the course of a week is what I did.

The VF-22 is a stealth fighter as well, probably the stealthiest VF even to this day. It makes sense that it would be used for this type of mission. I'd wager that it was this reasoning, not so much merchandising, that led to its inclusion in the show. That being said, there's no reason both can't be true. -

I dunno, I'm liking where they've gone with her, though that's always more of me reading more into her than anything the writers are actually doing. (Because the writing is kind of terrible even by Macross standards, but it's alright I still love them for it.) The pregnant pauses involving her do as much for her as high-energy antics do for Hayate and Freyja. I like that they're playing her social ineptitude more "realistically" than anime typically does. They're stumbling upon it and don't even see it for what it is, but all the same. She's so emotionally restrained that she doesn't recognize that 1) she's getting an itch for Hayate, and 2) she's getting super jelly. Of Freyja for winning Hayate's attention? Of Hayate for being more capable of expressing himself? Both? Or perhaps it's more accurate to say that she's slowly recognizing these emotions for what they are, and is actively fighting against them, even hostile towards them. They are taking away from her love for/dedication to her job. It would be nice if she works through her emotional stumbling block on her own and on her own time, eventually channeling them into motivation to become better at her job. She loves Hayate, but she loves flying more (calling back to and wonderfully inverting a certain other love triangle). She'll become a better second-in-command and pilot, and she'll move past the "triangle" - such as it is - without the other two being the wiser. (Also, an aside: Those were some serious "frakk me" eyes Freyja was Hayate during her birthday. Like sheesh I thought a hentai was about to start right then and there.) This is, of course, purely my reading what I want into her character, and the show will likely render all of that characterization moot with the next episode, but it's not like it hasn't been doing that for the past 18 episodes anyway. I would have liked for her to have had a more... complicated relationship with Messer than what we ultimately got. I would have liked for EVERYONE to have had more complicated relationships with Messer than what we ultimately got, but it would have been especially interesting if she'd carried a torch of some kind for him. Sparks combined with their mutually restrained demeanors could have made for some great interplay, and of course you bring in Kaname and Arad and the entire thing would have been rife with exactly the type of space opera that Kawamori shoots for with this franchise. Changing gears somewhat, is anyone else disappointed by the sheer mishandling of Reina and Makina? There's no clearer evidence that the show was created by guys for guys than this token romance. And I don't mean that as some sort of damning feminist critique of the show, but it is abundantly clear that Kawamori and co. never knew what to do with them as characters and only included them for the sake of fetish; they aren't people so much as mascots. There's a little bit of interesting stuff going on with Makina owning her sexuality and Bogue developing a fixation for Reina, but by and large their inclusion in the show is predicated upon them being nice character designs, not interesting people. ...all of this is basically to say that there's so much potential with this show that gets woefully underused. That fanfiction itch is itching really really strong... -

Without understanding everything, the only thing I can say is that it went quite the way of the Evangelion movies. One seemingly nonsensical thing happening after another. Will have to wait for subs to get a better grasp on the situation. Otherwise, it carries on all the positives and negatives of episodes past, so... yeah. -
Strangely enough, the bad press is what makes me WANT to watch it now. I think I can safely assume that it won't top The Return of the Joker or the The Dark Knight, both of which seem to adapt ideas from the original comic to film better. Is it still only in theaters, or have they already released it on DVD/streaming?

Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
kajnrig replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
That's the plan, yes. I still have to get in some practice using my stash of VF-171s; hopefully I'll be able to get workable scans of both these itasha stickers and the VF-25 Deculture decals and create my own waterslides out of them. I know another member here, Rock - the guy doing the recent slick Tornado Messiah WIP - is also trying to do the same. He has more experience at it than I do (his blog has a complete replica of the Hasegawa(?) 25F decals), and a more complete collection of Deculture decals, but lacks the hardware/software to do the rest. If we should be successful, we could feasibly upsize the smaller-scale decals to fit onto the 1/72 kits. Imagine a 1/72 VF-31 with one of those itasha decals on it... -
In case anyone's interested the kit in question is the 1/144-scale Tomy Tec GIMIX VF-31J prepainted model. From the relevant threads, it seems it'll be fairly easy to build and require only cement/glue to finish. People are comparing it a little to the HMR toys.

Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
kajnrig replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
However they're available, I won't be making the same mistake as with the Deculture VF-25s. Picking them up as soon and as cheaply as possible, then it's off to the scanner! -
The "pla" in Plamax comes from "plamo," the Japanese shorthand for "plastic model." That, combined with the runners behind the figures, suggests model kit.

Oh, I didn't realize that. Will have to re-check some screens/renders... Yes, and given how fugly the hatches look when opened, it's probably for the best. Seriously, it's just one big ugly square peg that you move from a "closed" location to an "open" one. The DX looks like it'll do it way better (though I suppose that's to be expected), with actual hinges or rails or whatever in place for a truly opening/closing door.
