  1. Active = http://hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?SaleGroup=SPRINGSALE2017 --- --- I just got an email from HLJ saying their spring sale will start on March 8, 12pm JST and will last until March 22, 6pm JST. No link to the sale, no preview of items on sale, etc., so I don't know if Macross will make an appearance at all. All the same, I thought you'd all like to know. I or someone will get a link when it starts, I'm sure.
  2. The Digital Foundry review I posted a page or so back had them plugging in a battery bank and the Switch charging indicator turning on. Another video (I forget which) said something about only being able to charge it with the provided charger, but I wasn't sure exactly what they were talking about. Maybe they meant it used a specific voltage that most tablet/phone chargers aren't compatible with. Are you using the Nintendo wall charger, or one for a different device? Either way, portable battery banks are confirmed to work.
  3. Man, international shipping is WEIRD.
  4. Might be of interest to any of you who still have a Wii U and are considering upgrading for BotW.
  5. Good point. People confirmed you could use external batteries via USB-C. Maybe a conformal battery pack will be a thing. @Duymon Can the Joycons be used unconnected to the system in portable mode, or do they have to be clicked in? It would make looking for three separate items a bit of a hassle, but at least everything would fit.
  6. I thought the shipping policy was based on package size rather than value of certain items. I've had plenty of items up to a certain size shipped through SAL. Granted, none of them were $300 collector's items... And at a certain size point, the SAL option, though still available, costs more than EMS.
  7. Duymon mentioned a page back that the batteries should at least be fairly easily replaceable, being connected via a simple pin connector. Maybe/Likely a larger-capacity battery will come out in the near future, just as one did for the Wii U controller. If not Nintendo, then almost assuredly a third party.
  8. Could be she's calling the Major "mira" or whatever the slang is in Spanish that (I think I've heard) some people call young girls. Like a term of endearment or something? Urban Dictionary also says that "mira" is like saying "yo" in Spanish. So whatever it is, maybe the lady's being super informal with ScarJo, and just happens to have a dumb Midwestern white person accent. I dunno. As for "Motoko Kusanagi/Jane Excalibur"... eh. That particular comparison puts too much emphasis on symbolism, methinks. Both Motoko and Kusanagi are pretty common Japanese names, regardless of whether the latter is "descended" from the sword or not. Excalibur, on the other hand... Not too many Johnny Excaliburs or Excalibur Smiths running around. "Jane Smith" would be more apt if only because you could argue that the last name "Smith" once upon a time might have been an occupation signifier, ie "Jane the Smith," as in Jane the blacksmith, and a blacksmith makes swords. You keep the tenuous connection to weaponry AND the ubiquity of the name.
  9. It's almost like whitewashing was an issue all along despite how much you claim otherwise, and Hollywood, being Hollywood, fumbled that ball every step of the way, as they're wont to do. ...okay, that's petty. (True, I think, but also petty.) Sorry. But I mean, setting aside the whitewashing controversy, does it matter that her name has changed to something culturally insignificant? I'd have thought you'd be more disappointed, generally speaking, that the story seems to have been changed from... whatever GitS is, something philosophical... to ScarJo Does Robocop. And it certainly looks like, once you remove all the superficial trappings, that's exactly what this movie is shaping up to be. Those dumb lines that get repeated in every single clip ring a whole lot of alarm bells for me. Another generic conspiracy plot? "You are the first of your kind"? "They created me, but they don't own me." C'mon. That can't be the actual story of GitS, can it? I thought it was supposed to be about a society where literally everybody is in some way part machine and thus have unique ethical questions that they must confront? Or at least something more engaging than "Grr I'm not your corporate puppet bang bang."
  10. What's up with this generation of friendly supportive competition? I want me some "Genesis does what Nintendon't," damn it!
  11. Digital Foundry's look at Zelda: BotW gives some nice insight into how the Switch behaves. In portable mode, the game runs at a native 720p (same resolution as the Switch screen) at a constant 30fps. In docked mode, the game runs at 900p and the framerate can dip down to 20fps. The CPU clocks in both modes is the same, but the GPU clock in docked mode is at least double that of portable (768 MHz docked, 384 or 307 MHz portable). The dips in framerate either have to do with streaming data from storage (ie that data transfer rate problem I mentioned a few posts ago) or the double buffering vsync strategy they're using. But as an example of what I meant, it would be nice if the portable mode could get the same 768 MHz GPU speed to perhaps push the framerate from 720p30 to 720p60. Or, for that matter, running the docked mode in portable mode so that you can get the smoother gameplay of the portable mode rather than the higher-res but worse-performing docked mode. That being said, these problems seem to be more the fault of the game than the hardware. It doesn't exactly paint a clear picture of the console's limitations/abilities.
  12. Not exactly. The Switch overclocks, but it also (presumably) ups the rendering resolution to 1080p. So yes, you get more processing headroom, but you also get more information that needs processing. The PSP overclock just lets it process the same amount of information faster. (And you didn't NEED to tie yourself to an outlet. Just the battery would run out quicker. Me, my PSP's battery was near dead anyway so I only ever played it plugged in.) Anyway, it's not a major concern of mine. Just some design decisions on Nintendo's part with regards to the dock and cooling that have me asking curious questions is all.
  13. Ditto the above. I always love seeing a good mask job.
  14. Not really, but it'd be nice to have that option. The PSP was able to up its CPU clock when hacked, and that really helped with some games. You'd have to plug it in or the battery would drain like crazy, but it was a thing you could do. Alternatively, it'd be nice to have the fan running just so the system runs cooler. I haven't seen any indication that it runs extremely hot, but again, it'd be a nice option to have.
  15. Around the 7:00 mark, they get into the Pro Controller and pretty much debunk my claim of the D-pad being buttons. (It's a proper D-pad.) I'm still boggled at that price, though. Apparently there are connectivity issues with the Joycons as well, if you plan on using them for home gaming. Not sure how they connect - Bluetooth, IR, etc. - but there's mention that they have to be pointed at the screen/console for optimal function. The dock is also even more disappointing. I thought there was at least a fan inside, but that turns out not to be the case, making it even more barebones than before. That said, the fan is inside the console itself, so that's good. It'd be nice though if it turned on in portable mode as well so that the chips can overclock and you might be able to get better framerates out of games.
  16. What I got sick of was that there wasn't a longer version of it. It does get tiring, especially when it only has like two verses. The versions that did add to the song also added instrumentation that didn't suit it. I'd have loved to hear "Haha to Ranka no Aimo" (the one that starts out with keyboard and Maaya Sakamoto with an echo filter), extended, without the Megumi Nakajima bit at the end.
  17. Thanks for the album recs. I'll be getting my hands on those as soon as I can. (Though I don't remember liking the second half's music as much as the first.)
  18. I imagine this is the same decal set that shipped with the SV-262Hs when ordered through (I think) Hobby Search?
  19. They might do so just to keep parity between control layouts. Since the Joycon L's "D-Pad" is actually a set of buttons, it wouldn't be too absurd, just really dumb, to mimic that on a controller. Sounds like something Nintendo would do.
  20. I'm worried that the D-pad is actually just buttons same as the left Joycon, rather than an actual D-pad. N64 C-buttons, remember those?
  21. Yeah, I'm happy for them I suppose. I enjoyed the album well enough, though I didn't know there was a second (and more?). I'm going to assume subsequent album/s have songs from the second half of the show? Any original releases?
  22. http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2017/02/27-1/macross-delta-walkres-1st-album-chosen-as-animation-album-of-the-year-by-japan-gold-disc-award Came across that on my news feed, thought you all might like/dislike as you please. "Kimi no Na wa" (aka "Your Name," the apparently super popular Makoto Shinkai movie that I still need to check out) is also mentioned in the article.
