i thought christianity was widespread in japan... reguardless.. minmay is chinese (right?) misa is and claudia are american, gloval is russian (in robotech, i dunno about macross) roy is american, only really hikaru, kazikaki (sp, sorry) are japanise, i dont' know about max... so dispite the notion that japan isn't christian, doesn't mean a good part of the crew were also not christian. yay double negatives

70,000 in a ship thats 1.2km x 300m x 600m?
KingNor replied to dedalus001's topic in Movies and TV Series
Who says that the engines, gravity generators, and all other mechanical elements of the Macross take up more space per ton than conventional technology? Further, where is it said the "majority of the Macross consists of machinery and overtechnology?" Looking at the anime series, the Macross is clearly streamlined and vacant. Huge sections of ship's interior are vast, open chambers. The ceilings are soaring, the docking bays are immense, and city sized sections of the ship are all open. The Macross is built like a can from what we see in the anime. And that's just fine. Overtechnology is clearly a marvel of miniturization...just look at the Valkyries. The Valkyries contain all the internal components of a top of the line fighter and all the components of a top of the line mecha...in a chasis no larger than conventional fighters and weighing no more than comparable military equipment! Even more amazing, Valkyries contain everything necessary to travel in space for extended periods of time and later models even feature internal hardpoints! So you see, Overtechnology is in fact smaller and less cumbersome than convetional tech. Were a Nimitz-Class aircraft carrier built with OT, it would probably fit twice as many people. You're absolutley right, the part of the ship Hiriku and Minmay were in after being lost was sealed off and completley unused. i agree with this post. -
my main problem with the way macross is going is their tend toward "magic music". that is definately not my thing. valks powered by musical instrument controlls is just way too silly for me to get intrested in so unfortunately M7 kills my intrest before i even get into it. in all reality i probably only like SDF mac and Mac plus.

they probably stuck people anywhere possible, you're gonna just have to accept the discrepency and stuff, in real life they wouldn't have bothered with makeing an artificail sky and in efficient buildings and stuff in side, they would have just stuffed everyone into bunks and told them "its this or outerspace" -
New Trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
KingNor replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
now having seen the new trailer, i'm not impressed. they ditched all sence of style for un-inspired realistic characters. they dont' really look right to me. Square made its most hard core fan base by useing fantasy characters in a fantasy world. why is it when they pour their money into somthing they go for hyper realistic, wich just totaly clashes with the over the top stuff they try to make the characters do. i liked square better before they became a j-pop obbsessed graphics juggernaut that wants nothing more than to show off water effects and load as many particles onto the screen as possible. i problably won't be happy untill yoshi amano is back incharge of concept. it IS nice to see an homage to a game i really liked, its too bad they're doing it the way they are. -

at that point the allies would have invaded.
-
actually, the civilian puplic of japan knew invasion was iminent, the japanise government was training them for hand to hand combat. even women, children and the elderly were prepaired to fight to the death. this is why the predicted cost of life was expected to be so high, the actual japanise military had been desimated, all their seasoned soldiers were dead (just ask ww2 pacific allied fighter pilots) imagine allied soldiers having to fight heavily fortified strongholds every couple of miles, and when finally breaking though, having to slaughter women and children because none would surrender, and would continue to fight untill dead... its easy to take all these reasons and try to defend the a-bombs as having been dropped on a 'kind' of military target since the entire japanise populace was consider hostile and had proven earlyer that they would not surrender, choosing fighting or suicide instead. this isn't the case though, the targets were selected more to test the power of the bombs, wich is something i'm not proud of. before you judge the americans of the time however, you have to remember that all through europe, city wide carpet bombing from both allies and axis was common practice, and had cost far more lives on both sides than both atom bombs combined. it was the way war was conducted, true persision bombing just didn't exist. times have changed though, and for the most part the US doesn't do that sourt of thing anymore. we do have tactical nukes aimed at enemy citys, but these are retaliatory defence systems that i don't think anyone seriously plans on using. one can hope anyway.
-
Fat Man and Little Boy saved more lives in Japan than the planned full scale invasion would have. it's probably the only time ever that using weapons of mass-destruction like that will actually save lives. If the bombs hadn't helped sway the Emperor into telling his people to "end the war" then everyone in japan would have fought to the death against the allied forces. forcing the Allies to take HUGE losses and probably end up wipeing out the japanese people, with incredible death counts on both sides. probably the only time a situation like that will ever occur since all superpowers today don't have that kind of loyalty in their culture anymore. although it would be intresting to see how Americans would react to the prospect of being invaded.

they have a so so selection of anime, waaaAAaay better than say a blockbuster, but not so good as like a comic shop or korea-town shopping center. i like other things besides anime and asian movies, so i gladly pay my 20bucks and get 3 dvds ever week. more sometimes.

if you're going to glue it: go to an autoparts store, get JB weld, it takes a night to dry but when it does its hard like a rock and strong as all hell. **edit** practice on something first, its a little difficult to use, but its good stuff. good luck.

aww, you guys shouldn't "poo poo" the bootleg valks so much, i got my girlfriends little brother 3 bootlegs and a reissue CF for christmas and now he thinks i'm the coolest guy in the world. if you pull all the stickers off the bootlegs it improves their look exponentially with each decal removed, bare they dont' look so bad, and they're great for customizing the legs because they're so light. if i had more money i'd buy way more bootlegs, maybe even the tan and orange beast!

Exo, could you do us a favor and test one of the hands to the breaking point, i mean all it needs to do is hold up the gun and be removed from the wrist, but i'd feel alot better if i knew it took llike 5 lbs of force to do it as oposed to just tweaking it the wrong way. thanks!

i dont' think the TT cartoon is going that hardcore in the backstory of the characters... to me its like they don't care wich robin it is, its just "Robin" i guess for more casual fans of super heros. take me for example, i had no idea there were multiple robins. you notice none of the kids in the show are ever really in their "civilian" get up.

Who would you want to date on valentine's day ?
KingNor replied to vanpang's topic in Movies and TV Series
whats funny, is the poll says "go on a date" so all these guys on MW are confident enough to be sure of sex on the first date? wish i was that cool, takes me a week at LEAST. besides, dates don't mean sex, you wanna hang out with an eleven year old, be my guest. -
What are your opinions on these shows? i happen to like them both, especially JL. TT is so heavily influenced by Japanise animation i'm thinking it might have been made in japan. its an intresting style in my opinion. its a little /alot jarring sometimes when the don't get it "right" though. in both serise i have to say the fights are actually entertaining, the hits are hard with a good mix of comedy i really do like JL, mostly because of their "super bad ass" Batman, who's usually saveing the rest of the team. and how flash is just such a knuckle head and everyone's always kickin his butt. JL is also one of the few "american" animation shows out there where victoms of the bad guys often are actually killed, wich adds so much credibility to the show. i just thought both shows were well done, and wanted to know what you guys think.

Which is your favorite Star Trek series?
KingNor replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
i can actually remember a time when the original was all there was, i must be old man on campus here. sorry not a star trek fan at all really, though i did think the space ship in deep space 9 was kinda cool (unlike just about all the other ships in the star trek universe) -
Question regarding mechanics of VF transformation
KingNor replied to Lotus-6's topic in Movies and TV Series
i totally simpathize with not wanting to read the n00b thread, but these are serious n00b questions. what you CAN do in the noob thread is post the question, even if it was posted like 2 months ago and 20 pages back, usually someone will answer your question. as for how the valk transforms, go buy a 1/55 bootleg, aside from the swingbars on the hips, they transform more or less identically to the on screen version. -
Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
KingNor replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
they will NOT release the original version. Lucas doesn't consider the original versions "complete" and by the way, lucas is a crazy son of a bitch. you're best bet is to NOT BUY the special editions. hurt them financially. even then you'll need to wait for lucas to die and hope that the next person who runs the company will see $$$ more than his "artistic vision" and release the original version. still though, i wouldn't hold my breath. seriously lucas is nuts. besides, that singing sequence in Return of the Jedi adds so SO much to the story doesn't it? oh oh, and boba fett is so cool, they added deep and intressting scenes like "fett touching girls chin" damn, there are sides to him we never even imagined. oh oh... and "full shot of snow beast with arm cut off" now we REALLY know what happend. so cool. and don't anyone ever forget all the cool tacked on shots of CGI beasts being over animated.. they look so awsome composited into 70's and 80's film. rad. -

The Simpsons Movie is finally in the works.
KingNor replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
the problem with a simpsons movie is the same thing thats the problem with the bevis and buthead movie. both of those shows pushed what you could do in their givin formats, movies have very few limitations so i just dont' think the creators will use the given freedom to the limits. compair bevis and butthead the movie to southpark the movie. southpark always pushes the limits of its tv restrictions, and it pushed the limits of movie format as well. bevis and buthead went from "very offencive for tv" to "not really offencive even for pg13" movie just my opinion, the simpsons are dead to me anyway.
