i'd kind of forgotten about the lance, what is that all about? i really wish the show had been more about the angels, i find them utterly facinating. is the lance man made (i dont' think so but its all so bizzare) and even if it is, whats the deal with it. everyone in the show seems to know about it even though it just sorta shows up and rei chucks it at some angel. is there any back story on that thing? and what was the first impact?

I'll bet you've been watching the wrong shows. might be the case.

i liked singing more when it was just a part of culture that freaked out the culturless zentradi, i think it weakens the multicultural, "lets come to geather for man kind" message now that music is considered somekind of mystical superweapon and has little to do with our individual cultures

so rei is a geneticaly created human, with bits and peices of shingis mom, and those two other entitys. she's a human built out of parts of one of the angels? she's essentialy a testtube baby, and mass-produced. the other bodys of her that they have are spare parts and not complete rei's? does rei maintain her memorys when she dies? like on a computer back up or something. do the mangas get into this stuff and break it down a bit clearer?
-
they didn't cover the baby because overall they didn't cover micronization of the zentradi at all. had they fit that part in they probably would have shown the baby. though in the timeline of the movie, there wasn't any time gaps inwich the baby could have been actually born, but they could have had her pregnant or somethinng

well yeah.. i think i didn't phrase that well enough. it strikes me as a souless show. honestly i havn't watched enough to label it as such, sorry for being ambiguous. i've tried to watch gundam, i just can't get into it. it just all seems so flat to me. i wont' defend my opinions as fact, i'm just saying that everytime i try to pic it up it comes off as generic in every way and just doesn't grab my attention.

is rei a clone of shingi's mom? if not, is she some kind of geneticly enginerred "reanimation" of shingi's mom? if neither of those are correct, can someone give a consice and simplified explination of what / who she is?

thats fine, i was just throwing out the idea.

well the general theory on dyrl is that its a movie based on the experiences of the war. imagine it like "black hawk down" of the macross world. alot of things that happend in real life during the "black hawk down" manuvers in somalia got re-arranged, or mashed togeather to make a film 'ABOUT' the story, rather than a documentary. i happen to like that way of explaining away the diffrences. the REAL reason they changed things though, was probably just to add variaty and more action sequences. no where in the serise did they show a valk operateing with half its armor ripped off, so they made that part of how roy died. i dont' know why they added that city thing they found in the ocean.

so are custom hands a no go? see my last post

neat, thanks guys.

where can i get the evangelion mangas in english? are they expencive?
-
i dont' understand the confrontational nature of this topic... you've posted a ranting and opinionated "review(?)" of dyrl with out really creating a structure for discussion. what are you trying to tell us? i've had a hard day of class today, maybe i'm just loopy.

if gundam died in the states i would be neither happy nor sad. i simply don't care. to me, gundam is a flat souless show with idioticly flashy robots. i just can't get into it. i think part of the problem with the figures is that most hero gundams have all three primary colors and big splashes of white. generaly that kind of color scheme 1) looks tacky and 2) is reserved for preschool toys. maybe that sort of thing doesn't matter in japan, but in the states that will kill the young adult market like nothing else. $0.02

can you make custom hand positions? i remember you asking if people wanted a hand giving the bird, i had an idea i'd like a set designed to hold the gun pod by the barrol like a baseball bat. if it could be done to hold it with one hand that would be awsome, but both would be good too. just a thought.

Not true. In Star Trek First Contact, ILM included the CGI model of the Millenium Falcon during the Borg battle at the begining. It's small and you can't see it well unless you have a superbit version of the film playing on a computer monitor, but it's there. ILM was working on the Special Editions of the Star Wars film at the time and included the Falcon as a joke. No lawsuits followed Oh, so you mean it wasn't on the "leaked" cover layout? Gee, something you can only see with superbit and an electron microscope... wow, it's a surprise no lawsuits were thrown around.. Also... as for the excuse - Misdirected anger. I'm not a Robotech fan thank you very much. As for the rest, you can see the Falcon on a regular release DVD viewed on a good TV, you just can't see it "well" (note my use of the word). The point is, no lawyers were involved. c.. could we see a screen grab?

cool thanks, geeze, i'd ALWAYS thought it was a 3 year flight back. well now i gotta rewatch it again. -
but.. i like excel saga!

does it really matter? they can make comic books of any stupid thing they want, macross plus will still be cool. i dont' think this is worth the level of panty twisting thats going on in this thread... maybe i'm just missing a key point of the argument. its just a drawing of a valk on a comic book, in my eyes its just not that big of a deal.

the way i understood it (wich i barely do) is that... the last two episodes are mental images in the hero-boys head shingee(sp?) basicly its the culmination of all his emotional problems which turn out to be the main focus of the show, and not the evas fighting angels and all that, wich i guess could kind of be considered a side story that is wraped up seperately in the "end of evangelion" movie made later. the entire evangelion show is supposedly focused on all of shingee's internal issues, like his feelings for his father, his feelings for all the girls he lives with, as well as the guys. his commitment to growing up and handleing forces biger than him, and issues about acceptance. the evas, angels, and nerv are just eye candy for the emotional rollercoaster. thats how i perceved it. alot of people see it in diffrent ways. gainax had made such memorable and intence giant robots in the evas that i think alot of fans feel.. kinda... put off, that they turned out to be somewhat trivial to the "real" meaning of the story. the "end of evangelion" shows other events going on 'during' the last two episodes of the serise, and focuses more on the evas and how they fit into this big cosmic thing thats going on during shingees mental apacolyps and shows (i think) more of what happens after he comes back to his sences. i really and honestly don't know how accurate that is, thats what i got out of the show. im watching it again actually to see what i missed the first time around.

if you see this as a bad thing, i agree. i like the vf-1 valks because of all the mecha in anime, these are of the select few that have a story driven, beleivable reason to transform.

The Macross' return to Earth only took 10 months, not 2 years. According to the timeline, the Macross leaves Earthspace on February 7, 2009 and returns sometime in mid-November of 2009. Factoring what was able to be salvaged from the city after the fold and at Mars, food was clearly not a problem. As for space for 70,000 people, that's not as difficult as it seems. Being a bit conservative, I figured that each "leg" of the Macross has enough space to fit the volume of 3 football stadiums (that's with only using approximately half of the entire volume of each "leg") Giants Stadium in New Jersery can seat 80,000 people, enough for the entire city population. are you sure about 10 months? i thoguth it was years.. like 3 years
