@Saburo, thanks for the stunning pic as usual (and as expected, aren't we spoilt here lol). My amazon order has shipped via DHL and it's scheduled to get to me by tomorrow. Did you order yours via amazon or another company with DHL shipping? Coz that was fast!

Thanks @Lolicon - I kept nodding as I read your post especially the last bit, lol. Their two-seater canopy looks so good in fighter mode as well - I don't think I have seen a transformable 1D figure that got the proportions right. So now the question for me is, do I swap it out with the Super O's back cover (which has the correct colour, but only one antenna/fin) or just leave it as is. There is no painting option for me sadly.

Thanks @PteranodonMom, I have an array of Detolfs for these right now but still haven't installed any lighting in them yet. But yes I had wished to own a collection like this for a long time, and finally decided to do it. I'm sure you'll build your own perfect collection over time. Show us yours when you get them!

You know, I wasn’t a believer in the HMR series but bought my first one because I am a sucker for the GBP armour. Then over time it had grown on me, because I can really play with these unlike the 1/60’s or even the 1/48’s that I felt I had to transform with utmost care, for fear that I break an out-of-production figure. It’s like handling the 1/55 chunky monkey again - you can just mess with it and have some real fun. Another draw to the line is the promise of enemy mecha and non-valk variants like the Destroids and the Monster. These really make the collection much more interesting and due to their size, it’s unlikely that we will see them in other larger scales anytime soon. But anyway I understand and respect your decision, hopefully you’ll have luck getting more of the old 1/60’s or the new DX VF-1 line.

I'm really sorry to hear about that, and it totally sucks that the VF-4 broke when you were just following their instructions. But if you aren't in a hurry to sell, do reconsider keeping the rest of the HMRs you have, as it is really a decent line of figures for the franchise which is still growing. Yes, they may be flimsy or don't have perfect transformation, but IMO they are (usually) pretty fun to handle and play with, unlike some of the 1/60's that I don't feel I can treat as just "toys". Again, sorry to see that happen to your VF-4.

Well... let's just say I will not be putting super packs on to the 1D in a hurry... Yes I can leave it in Gerwalk and Battroid modes, but I was really hoping that the fighter mode would look decent - especially when Bandai went through the trouble of re-molding the elongated canopy for a two-seater, unlike the Super O or the VE-1. Not often do we get a transformable 1D toy (not model kits) that get the canopy shape right. The HMR could do it because it didn't need to worry about the length of the heat shield during transformation. To me it's something that bothers me when I look at the fighter mode, especially knowing that they could have got the colouring correct easily (and they have done so on the VT-1). But enough of my OCD nitpicking - I'm sure lots of people will still love the HMR VF-1D and I promise I will (try) not mention this again

Is it just me or does Minmay look disproportionately tall in the 1D's hands?
-
Thanks. I might use small pieces of dish sponge (with a cut in the middle for positioning) for the protection and also the added benefit of friction between the stand and the valk as well. Just another idea.
-
I have that VT-102 screenshot from episode 1 etched in my mind, so to me that is THE official colour as well. But there is really no excuse for Bandai's laziness/corner cutting for that small piece. I am a big fan of valks in Fighter mode, and the 1D is one of my all time favourite from the TV show. This has ruined the HMR 1D for me. If they didn't do that for the Super Ostrich, I can understand their "business" decision. But they had already done that colouring for the Super O, and that's what I can't understand. I even thought about swapping the two covers, but then realized that the 1D has two tiny antennae when the Super O only has one.

OH. Another “grey or white goggles” conundrum... why am I not surprised, haha. But I didn’t know that, so thanks @seti88 for letting me know.
-
Hi @seti88, the cut edges aren’t that rough and I was comfortable enough to rest all my valks on it for the pics, but I wanted to be careful because a large portion of the weight is resting on the back end of the stand on one or two contact points, usually the area above the ankles. Instead of sanding down the stand, maybe using small cuts of the protective wrap that came with the original valks might help. I would love to see what you think about these when you get yours. Cheers.

Thanks very much @tekeringfor the detailed comparison. I was trying to highlight a paint difference in fighter mode yesterday but didn’t describe it well. The circled area in the HMR 1D is different to both the Yamato and the HMR super O. To me it’s a step back from the super O and it bugs the hell out of me that Bandai didn’t so the same thing with the 1D. I like my 1D in fighter mode and that is an eyesore to my OCD eyes..

Ok the KO acrylic flight stands finally arrived. I’m going to post a few pics at the end so you guys can judge for yourselves. My verdict: no-frills clear stands that are perfect for displaying a fleet of valks in fighter mode at the same angle, but you need to be extremely careful about paint scratching. Works for most 1/60 models as seen in the taobao pics. Not cheap at about $5 a piece - for die hard fighter mode fans only.

I have been waiting for some SAL shipments from nin nin and mandarake and they are taking forever to reach New York ISC for some reason. It’s not even golden week yet. I’m just going to have to be patient, but I hope at least something will arrive in the next two weeks.

(edited) and I just realized that the shape of the back cover are different between the 1D and the super O. Dammit.
-
Very nice and thanks for the side-by-side comparisons! Not nit-picking but it still looks as though the backpack's shade of orange is a tad brighter than the rest of the body on the 1D, not sure if it's just the lighting. And not sure which is canon - but only the centre part of the back cover was painted orange in Yamato's 1D, not the whole piece. I just checked my Super O and the back cover was painted in two colours - why the step back, Bandai?
-
Thanks for sharing, hard luck mate. Sorry to see that happen.
-
Hope they don't go higher than 30k yen...

Thanks - its a good thing that they are being honest and transparent about the situation, so kudos to that.
