Thanks Mommar, that’s right. I forgot about the Yamato reissue of the VE-1 without the rainbow canopy. Wouldn’t it be great if Arcadia could revive the rainbow canopy design in the PF version???
-
Agreed. This is a one-time reissue of the highly sought-after VE-1 from Arcadia (well, unless they decide to milk the mold even more some years down the road). If you want to sell your extra copy here, I'm sure many will welcome the opportunity to get it from you.

I came across a couple of good deals IMO on Mandarake for the Gallia 4 set, and an unopened, box damaged super parts set. Both were from the same shop, and together they came to 8,000 yen shipped via SAL. While I did not care for the fold booster at all, I was happy to have the speaker set to recreate the scene in ep 12 (as Duymon did), for 2.5k yen.

Somehow I think that years down the road we may see the Sv-262 and missile set become sought after items (not unlike the old Yamato VT-1 and VE-1’s) if this mold is going to be a one-and-done deal. The mecha design is so unique and unlike any previous valks we had seen, and that may become a selling point eventually.

I hope they come through with my VE-1 and the DX Max. So the morale of the story is not to bet on Amazon JP alone? (assuming you’re both talking about amazon Japan GK itself, not third party sellers)

Super Sonic Warrior Borgman? But it probably came a couple years after MOSPEADA.

I have been hearing nice things about preordering Macross figures with Amazon JP. Mind sharing your experience with them? I have the VE-1 and the DX Max on preorder with them and no backup...

You're too young to know this title - I think it was a hit OVA in the late 80's or early 90's.

Thanks @dafob! I see the ready-to-use connectors to link the strips to the power unit, which would reduce A LOT of wire clutter, and that is my main gripe with the dioder solution (as well as the cost). Again, really helpful, and thanks for sharing that with us.

Wow, that is an AMAZING G1 collection, and I love your display with the backgrounds! Grimlock blowing fire on Huffer gave me a good chuckle. I'm also a G1 fan (but only G1, and am not a fan of the design changes post-movie). BTW much appreciate the tip on the LED setup and I was under the wrong impression that the LED strips needed soldering and wiring. Do you have a link to the strip that you used on say amazon.com please? or is it something that's really quite standard now? Man I could have saved a lot if I had talked to you first, lol!

I also agree that the colour of the Hi-metal R VF-1S is too grey.

Thanks! Before I got into collecting Valks, I had a small collection of TF masterpiece, and a couple of detolfs for these. I had explored many options for lighting, but decided that the Ikea Dioder strips had the perfect balance between cost and ease of installation. Strip LEDs are cheaper, but they require soldering and wiring, hence my concerns about safety. The detolf strip LED comes in plain or multi-color options (both are called "DIODER" by the way). Mine are the plain ones. The light is not a cold daylight white (4000k) but more like a warmer, soft white (2700k), that is similar to the lighting temperature in the room. I was ok with these but it's all down to personal preference. Cheers.

Right - all she knows is I have tonnes of these, so another extra valk or two (or more) over time will not get as much attention. Haha.

Thanks, yes they are the ikea LED stripes (Dioder). I have tried several configs before, and shamelessly copied Saburo’s setup. The placement of the LEDs in front works well, because both the front and top of the valks will get light. Alternatively (and at double the cost) you can consider putting one on each side (what I call a “11” config), that would light up each section equally.

Haha thanks, the hardest parts about collecting are the wallet, and smuggling my purchases home without the wife noticing.

Thanks, this is something that I have wanted to do for years. Shame that I didn’t get into collecting in the Yamato era and the F renewal years, and had to buy those at secondary market prices.

The regular SSP goes quite well with the stealth colour scheme actually.

I bloody love it!! Lol!

Work in progress... after much procrastination, I had finally bought the dioder LED sets and installed them in my detolf array. Two more arrays to be added on the right, and I need to get some cable organizers for the massive tangled spaghetti of cables on the right side.

I’m no expert at all so you should do your research, but I have ordered a dozen of stuff already. I registered with a US address, and the seller ships the order to an international dispatch center with Taobao. Once it gets there, you will have to pay separately for the international postage (CNY 89 per kilogram). You can combine multiple orders for international shipping.

I started with SRW3 on the super famicom. The last one that I really spent serious time on was probably Alpha on the PSP... They have really come a long way since then - but nice to see the franchise still going strong. I bet I won’t know half the mecha in this latest version anyway, lol.
