  1. Raced home at Lunchtime after getting the call the prototype cover was ready... its a perfect fit!
  2. "It's always been a funny little in-joke that the -9 VFs have sword names and forward-swept wings... the sole exception being Rod's YF-29B Percival." SIR Percival was one of King Arthurs Knights of the Round Table and swung a sword...
  3. Progress on the display boards Made some Ali lens shrouds, Acrylic lens covers and used frosted clear tint over that to make them diffuse. Plug fitted behind each panel. Loom runs in the ceiling cavity and down into the PC room to the wall mounted transformer. Wired in pairs across the hallway so they come on in pairs down the length of the hall. Made the 6mm diameter acrylic rods, 3 for each Fighter, with one 5mm N45 Rare Earth magnet in each tip. The fighters get the same magnet embedded in their landing gear bays. One Häfele LOOX Lighting system transformer powers them all. Everything is test fitted for now and being stress tested tonight to see how much heat is generated. Wiring still the be sorted and hidden.
  4. Just get a mirrored Acyrilc one cut up, or cut one up yourself. Bunnings in OZ sell mirrored acrylic for about $50 a sheet which would do a ton of those turntables.
  5. Alot bigger...
  6. Have you not seen WM Chengs one??
  7. Nothing gets the glue off once its set and the tapes gone flakey. Apart from mechanical abrasion. Had dome on a window frame and no solvent I tired would remove it so have to buff it off with a rubber wheel in a drill.
  8. damnit... now I'm going to have to mess with one! It looks too good not too. The camera windows behind the instructor need to removing though. I'm sure those are the race camera ports for the TV coverage.
  9. If you are after magnets, look for ones with a Field Strength rating of N45. They are the strongest off the shelf Rare Earth magnets you'll find and are pretty cheap if you shop online. I just got qty 40 of 5mm diameter by 3mm high ones for $10NZD for my hallway Valkyrie displays. If I have one on a Perspex stick and one on the plane, when they are joined in attraction they are rated to hold 1.3kg! And I have 3 Perspex rods holding each Valk! Keep them away from the kids and pets though as if they are swallowed they can be fatal and a painfully messy way to go. Account for every one and store the rest securely.
  10. hahah just remember masking tape goes hard and flakes with time, leaving behind the glue...
  11. Because I come with a brain. They dont like that.
  12. well in our chosen sport not being at to be hindered by pain and discomfort is advantageous, same as it is for me as a soldier. Can't live in a bubble and lives not a journey its a Rollercoaster ride, and we are loving every minute of it.
  13. Ti with a Black wash and Silver dry brush would contrast pretty good.
  14. Make it realistic and that would be the Flat white. They do it to assess damage and potential FOD hazards. Painting the Impeller blades in Titanium will give it a slight gold tinge that will contrast it well and still look the part. BTW Jas, I wouldnt expect the intake WOULD know the fans inside... its just an intake after all... Long day huh?
  15. I love how the image show it with a squadron of Lemon F-35s aboard. THAT wont be happening...
  16. Theres a great article about him on the net. He raced the next weekend at the Last Daytona 200 on a Triumph Daytona 675R, had to be lifted on to the bike, qualified on the Saturday and still came in mid pack. That was last year. They have to modify his leathers to suit. The sternum wires are from previous heart surgery. And he still does Road cycling and cleaned up the Georgia series. Seems when someone in my family gets knocked down, they are stupid enough to try to get straight back up. Besides, his collarbone only snapped into 4 pieces, mine was 5 so I win that round.
  17. If this has been up before, I apologize, if not, well worth the watch and always makes my toes curl as I've been on the back deck as some helos tried to land in pitching deck conditions. At one point a trainee pilot ended up flaring his SeaKing too soon and missed the rear, finding himself at our level just above the ships wake looking us in the eye horrified. The Navy pers all freaked. As helpful Army pers we just pointed up... This one features VFA-14 Tophatters and VFA-41 Black Aces
  18. they are running off 3 LR44 cells for 4.5v total so a USB power supply at 5V can run these. The resistors to run LEDs off 5v are for Red, Yellow, or Yellow-Green LEDs (1.8V) use 150Ω which is Brown Green Brown For Blue, Green, White, or UV (3.3V) use 68Ω which is Blue Sliver Black
  19. Some of one of my brothers hardware
  20. lol my family has a fascinating Genetic defect whereby we feel only sharp protrusion pain (ie needles etc) but little else. I can burn myself, break bones, tear ligaments etc with little reaction. I've had 15 concussions, 7 punctured lungs, 9 dislocated knees, pins in both thumbs, plates in wrists and fingers, broken sternum, arm, ankles, collarbone in 5 places, nose, LOTS of Stitches and Staples, dislocated hip, jaw, fingers, especially thumbs and a ton of burns and so on... Minor breaks like fingers I dont bother to get fixed now, I just reset them and tape them up myself and carry on. Most casting and taping and padding to really just to make people feel less discomfort... well... we can skip that step. Kids are the same - my daughter is more level headed but still has broken an arm and her jaw racing, the boys... reckless. I pulled 2 pieces of door skin and one sliver of shell casing from my ribs and lung (didnt realise it had punctured it) after a roadside IED attack. They are my favorites now and make for great conversation starters... and enders. My brother binned an MTB and buried the chainring in his leg starting at the ankle and shaving it to the bone to up under his knee. He lay on the ground complaining about a graze on his forearm, never even blinked at the leg impaling. Spectators were throwing up. 48 staples later its an epic scar! Just imagine the fun I have with powertools and soldering irons when I'm modelling... Nothing hard or heroic (perhaps moronic though), we just dont feel it, i'm sure if we did, we'd run screaming to mum. On a more relevent note, as of last night I have completed the VF-0 series with the purchase of a VF-0B! So now have the VF-0A with QB2200 GHOST, 0B, 0C, 0D, 0S. Thinking I may seperate the Ghost and have that on its own display as I'll have Jasonc's ghost as well.
  21. Mount a vacuum cleaner nozzle on the bench next to the lathe with a Quick Clamp. Halves the mess.
  22. Thinking I might buy it for the kids
  23. Your beastie would look good in a similar wall display... Cambrian Plastics have begun making the first of the Acrylic Covers for the displays today. They made my display cases for my Medals, Unit Plaques, Titanium and Stainless pins, plates and screws (broken many bones over the years) and IED/EOD souvenirs that I've collected from devices I've worked on or pulled from myself. Really good work, really good pricing and REALLY fast!
