  1. I've bought 28 Hasegawa Macross 1/72s off Amazon in the last 6months so... its addictive. They have some rare ones too, VF-11D Thunderseekers, Minmay 2009 Specials and SVF-41 Black Aces
  2. Stumbled upon a cheap trick last night while assembling 4 VF-1 kits. I only had one photoetch piece for the filler between the wings on the rear fuselage and had a mad idea looking for an alternative. Pill Packets... Slice a strip off to use as the filler panel, its stiff enough to stand upright with some superglue behind it, it folds easy for the shapes needed and its textured so better than a flat peiece of styrene! Pictures of it in place after work tonight.
  3. T-Rex had teeth... the VT series seem to be more trainer. Less fighter.
  4. In the Master Files there is a VF-22D Two Seater Sturmvogel. Aside from the two seats it has a stretched body as well The YF-19 has a back seat but thats it, what it needs a long cockpit for a more functional back seater with dual controls Radome idea is good too! Try Amazon for your Macross kits too, I have all the VF-0 series and got them from there. With the VF-0B and the Ghost A/S turning up this week
  5. but..... why? The VF-0B is already the same airframe as the VF-0A and S with a two seater cockpit. So doing it your way will come out exactly the same. The challenge is to do a VF-19D and a VF-22D The VT-19 would be the Moa as its a big bird and the VT-22 the Kiwi as its so small
  6. Mine, the last of the 1/72s, showed up in NZ today. Thanks Jason. Did you make your own Decals? If so, any chance I can have a copy of the graphic file? Assuming its a Vector format. I have a way of making them even more detailed so will reprint my own.
  7. Minmay 2009 Special VF-1A arrived today...
  8. It wont have. An electric motor is in the space the compressor should be. Its working as an RC Ducted Fan style system
  9. thats pretty crabtastic
  10. Between painting the SV-51 and wrecking things in Warthunder tonight I messed round with decal options for my Marine VF-1 unit. Ended up with SVMFA-69 The Seal Clubbers - ARMD-06 Enterprise or ARMD-00 Constitution Unit Logo the Ace Of Clubs and a Seal with variations on that theme. Basically ripping one of the Decal packs from the Warthunder CDK and converted it tonight to EPS vector format to make actual 1/72 scale super pack and tail fin decals out of. They are a Marine Attack Fighter unit usually mounting either a pair of SUPER PACKS or a pair of Twin Beam Cannon STRIKE PACKS (dubbed the MJOLNIR PACK - for when the hammer needs to be brought down) with Reaction Missile loadouts for Capital ship hunting, Counter Recon and Command Neutralization missions. Also berthed on the same carriers are: SVMAQ-2 The Death Jesters And SVMF-122 The Werewolves I'll put up the results of the decal printing tomorrow night
  11. Khyron/Kamjin is still way too big to fold into that Glaug... Split your Ailerons and Flaps up... have the flaps at 45 down and the ailerons at 30... looks cool
  12. Bigger engines come at a cost... wing loading, fuel loads vs consumption, handling at subsonic speeds in WVR dogfights. Who ever can point the nose and so the weapons at the other guy the easiest wins. Bigger engines slow that down except in the case of the Russians who have some amazing Stalinium/Putiniun alloy magic built into their monsters that negates physics. Having bigger engines makes a need for more fuel to keep the same range, conformal tanks are difficult to design without altering performance. External tanks drastically alter performance and reduce Ordnance loads by taking up hardpoint space. Pretty sure, given the wargames results the Rafale has been scoring against other Nato aircraft the French are happy with were its at.
  13. F-35s are nearly dead in the water now. The Development has turned into a monumental farce. The Per Unit costs have gone from USD68-75Mil to USD122Mil each and its not living up to its claims on fuel loads, range, weapon loads, Angle of Attack, or WVR dog fight performance. Typhoon and Rafale are matching it and beating it in practically all realms and the New Russian Terminators can pick up stealthy fighters out to 90km away so the advantages of the F-35s design are already null and void. They come at a cost of fuel load and weapons load so its on the back foot. The Typhoons Off Bore target lock system is a MASSIVE force multiplier now its been tested with the Meteor AAM and passed with flying colours along with the ASRAMM and the IRIS-T which can pull 60G turns to engage tailing fighters. Canada is about to jump ship on their order for F-35s and are seeking a new option. The VSTOL version has really hit the skids with untold safety issues.
  14. When you get a batch of new anything military you get a handful of training versions, be it weapons, aircraft or LAVs so when the VF-11 was delivered to units, a handful of 2 seaters for conversion purposes would also be delivered. You were sent to the manufacturer for training up as a trainer then on return to your unit you became the Instructor and took the rest through FAM cses (Familiarisation Training and Conversion/Qualification Courses) to sign them off on competent use of the equipment. Its a fun holiday away from the Green and a perk of the job and rank (I got to go to Canada for mine). So the VF-11D would have been purpose build and the VF-11 Thunder Seeker with the windows would have been the converted/modified unit.
  15. Had a moment of doubt when I remembered the SV-51 is WAYYYYYY bigger that any of the VFs and it maynot fit in the display case. Slapped it together quick and luckily it DOES fit.... ones the wingtip launchers are on its only JUST fitting but it fits! And the magnetic rods hold it upside down just fine so thats another tick in the box. Painting on the SV will begin tomorrow.
  16. I need on in my hall display... now show us how to make a VF-30 Chronos in 1/72 and you skills are complete!
  17. How bizarre that this photo should appear while I was looking at my SV-51 kitset... The writer that picked the USSR/Israeli Anti UN coalition in Macross Zero must be a clairvoyant
  18. yeah.. see that requires forward planning and a concern for personal safety and comfort...
  19. run the network and security cables under the house for that reason
  20. The best bits are the jet nozzle ribbing details, the fuselage wing space filler, the backpack vent blades, the blade aerial blades and the twin leg lights.
  21. Did the unfun task last night and went into the roof space to lay the cables to all the paneling. Kiwi houses have lower angle roofs with lots of bracing, lots of Fibreglass insulation and a lot of heat trapped up there. Would rather spend all night in the rain and cold in an OP on a windy hillside than spend 10mins up there. Found some Adafruit Unlatched relay boards for $11NZD each and will have one on each pair of panels to switch them on at intervals. All be controlled from an Arduino Uno Board and triggered by a PIR sensor in the hall ceiling.
  22. Add them in the build up and paint along with the rest of the model. They add finer detail for panel lining and relief on areas that may have been left devoid of detail otherwise (tailpipes and super pack exhaust areas on VF-1s) or they add parts that were never there but should have been (cockpit controls, radio aerial fin blades, rear fuselage to wing filler panel on VF-1s).
  23. It was an old unused cross ways hallway. I split it in half and the PC gets a fan cooled room that's sound proofed and the other side became a walk in wardroom for the guest room. Still need to get the wallpaper printed (some sort of Above The Clouds theme wallpaper) and finish the painting. Its on the list.
  24. Yeah I'd guess they'd continue to grow and the carapace harden and grow darker with more vibrant "tattoo" patterning with age. The middle sized ones would be the cost effect ones but remember to keep the horror of a biomechanical monster like a Tyranid bio titan. So some size and power and menace would be ok
  25. 30m... even though its going to be crippling. Second option is the next size down as long as its still bigger than the Valkyrie.
